@@wolfmanscott8669 True Stevie used 13 gauge strings for a long time, he also tuned down his guitars in Eb tuning to loosen the strings a bit, making it possible to do big bends even with those thick strings. Not only did he still break strings, he also always had super glue in his guitar cases to mend his fingers from splitting them all the time as well.

Reaction videos from the young'uns have become one of my favorite things to watch on RU-vid. Music has mostly been soulless synthesized pap for the past 15 years, these kids get so turned on when they experience handcrafted soulful musicianship. It really helps me recapture some of the magic of when I first got turned on by these songs. I love it.

There is a giant statue of Stevie Ray Vaughan in Austin Texas. He was born in Oak Cliff though one of the roughest neighborhoods in Dallas. there will never be another guitar player like him. One of the best in the game. I play blues guitar, like Stevie. I played for hours a day. I’m sure he can play for days. Interesting fact, he played with a thicker strings there are for the best tone, which is really hard to bend. They say he had hands like catchers mitts though. Giant hands and fingers. Truly a legend. RIP. Texas represent.

Back in '84 in high school, sitting in the school bus at a track meet, we were listening to Texas Flood from Austin City Limits that I had on cassette tape. I was describing what was happening during the song as he spun around, unbuckled the strap, put the guitar behind his back, buckled the strap back on - not missing a beat and then continued with the solo. Some smart ass from the back of the bus said, "it don't sound no different behind his back!" To which I replied, "Exactly his point!"

His fingers have bled, he played in Albany New York back around 1986 I believe, and and they asked the audience if anybody had some super glue. I had my van and tools and kit bag, so I raised my hand and said I think I do. So one of his Entourage came out to the van with me and I brought a small duffel bag in and went backstage. I'm at Stevie Ray Vaughan there and a couple of singers were ripped up a little bit. He amazed me by literally taking the super glue and putting it on his fingers (that had to hurt like hell), thank me and they gave me a free bar tab and I got an autograph. Stevie Ray then went back out on stage and played his last set of the night, and he didn't miss a beat. Absolutely amazing amazing man

Guitarist develop calluses on their fingers. Makes all the difference in the world! Stevie was a VERY PHYSICAL player, as you can see. There's a story where Stevie was playing a club early on, and he had torn a callus off one of his fingers. Between sets, he asked the club manager if he had any glue. He Crazy Glued the tip of his finger back together, right in front of the guy. Put the cap back on the tube. Tossed the glue back to the manager, and went back out and played his next set, good as new. Like nothing ever happened. The show must go on, right?

When he was younger, he practiced until his fingertips fell off, then super glued them back on & continued practicing. He played with all the great Blues guitarists from back in the day: BB King, Albert King, Johnny Copeland, Buddy Guy, Albert Collins, etc. SRV helped revive blues guitar & gave these pioneers their due recognition on stage & off; & they appreciated his skill & generosity, as did he theirs. Look up any of the above artists to see more amazing performances with them & SRV.

He invited Albert Collins to George W Bush’s Inauguration Ball, Johnny Copeland to Montreux, Albert King and his brother Jimmie everywhere, and half of Austin to Carnegie Hall (Angela Strehli, Jimmie Vaughan, Kim Wilson,...). He definitely tried to spread what he saw as his good fortune around.

Now that girl is pretty. Stevie Ray, he's something else. Leaves jaws hanging open. The quality of his playing didn't drop when he switched to behind his back. He even saved a trick; after he sang 'I'm leaving you baby' the first time he played a super-speed all-strings-ringing blur technique that has an amazing texture.

Another blues guitarist I think you would like is Jonny Lang. He was 16 when he cut the record “Lie to me”. I know that you guys would enjoy it. Tony Indiana

OK, only 3 mins in and I am LMAO. This is how we all look when these kids are listening for the first time-explaining all the little details and trying not to come out of our skin while the other person is just trying to hear. Love you kids.

STEVIE RAY VAUGHN was a God gifted man!!! His passion was beyond anything ive ever seen. I read he played til his fingertips came off he super glued them back on and kept playing. Unreal, love love STEVIE RAY VAUGHN. You really need to watch some of his life documentaries on RU-vid and you will see just how amazing he was. Truly a good man. Humble and kind!

The master of the Stratocaster! I love his version of Stevie Wonder's Superstitious among many favorites. He has played with many greats including Santana and BB King. RIP SRV.

Stevie Ray was gifted. He had a gift from God. No other explanation for his talent. Another parson that had that gift was Terry Kath, the guitarist for Chicago. Check out Chicago 25 or 6 to 4 live in Tanglewood and you will see what I mean.

This cat was so heavy handed I have read that he always kept Super Glue on stage as he had a tendency to either split his fingernails down the middle or rip them off entirely. He would glue the nail back on and finish the show.

Jimi Hendrix used to visit him in his sleep and jam with him ... But yeah, Stevie put together music from all over as great artists do. Back in the day in the "Chitlin Circuit" if you couldn't play the guitar behind your back or pick it with your teeth they would throw things at you. A lot of people play guitar but very few that seem to be at one with the guitar. Like a fellowship it can be hard to tell where one ends and the other begins. So simple and natural yet impossible to teach ....
