Hi. I recently found out that you can even go from one city all the way to another city by metro!! I knew you could do that in the Cantonese regions such as Shenzhen or Guangzhou. But I just found out yesterday from a friend having his holiday in China that you can do that in Hangzhou, which is a city next to Shanghai. Not saying that that would be a good option. But you could if you really want to save money. I would recommend taking the bullet train instead for those journeys. Bullet train trips are quite cheap compared to any other country.
China's metro system can be built efficiently and quickly because CRCC has its own tunnel boring machines, rolling stocks, engineers, and experienced workers. CRCC has all the data on hand as to size of station based on riders and number of cars required. almost everything is standardized. city or local authority comes up with projected riders, routes and station design. CRCC has everything available except design for station/s.
I went on the Shanghai metro in 2018, and I was astounded. The network was so vast and deep down, you could take journeys of escalators going down or up, especially in an interchange station. Thousands would be on their phones because wifi was already widespread underground. Everything was so seemless and in order, and was very cheap. I’ve travelled on the Shanghai maglev and China’s high speed rail system. It is world class! The ‘authoritarian’ government, as the West LOVES to describe China’s CPC is very effective and made up of intelligent and highly educated political leaders.China is allot more modern and developed than I expected! Our media in the West always tells us China is collapsing.
Every Chinese leader has been promoted from an ordinary person to a higher-level official through selection and election through his or her own achievements. Each of them is an elite among the Chinese people, so China is a country led collectively by elites. The most popular media celebrities and Internet celebrities can be elected national leaders by constantly making wishes and speeches to the people, which is impossible in China.
in Singapore we have tons and tons of security cameras as deterence for people to commiy crime because you cant get away with it. these cameras are there to keep you safe in the day and even at night, something most westerners do not have the luxury of...feeling safe on the streets.
So the west will not talk about Singapore! They only talk about China! Because there are many cameras in China, the China government is controlling people! Obviously, this is the Western prejudice and slander against China, which is annoying.😫
Actually London has most tensely cameras in the world , The western medias just targeted china and made China like a hell . They do everything to smear China and their government, but in the western countries, overseas Chinese got attacked by the locals because of the long term anti China propaganda
I don’t get it why people are so against security cameras. In China public cameras are only accessible by the police anyways. Also if you have nothing to hide then there’s nothing to fear 🤷🏻♀️
I left my Back Pack at the Overhead Shelf during a Bullet Train Ride when I was in Hunan in April, the Train just wheezed off before I could React. The Station Officer told me to Call 12306 to Report. They found my bag at My Seat, handed out at A Couple of Station from where I was (at least 200km away I guess with the Train's Speed), and handed over to the Next Train heading opposite towards my Direction. I went for A Roast Pork Supper nearby, slightly over 2 hours later, I got my back pack back with my passport and CNY 1760 (the Officer told me as I had no clue how much I had) in it. Speechless over the Chinese Efficiency.
Yep, or worst come to worst they will mail it to you, will usually arrives next day. I once slept through my transit and the staff helped me to find an alternative route, got me new tickets and kept repeating my transit like a dad to his 12 year old daughter😂
China has good city mass transportation systems and also the high-speed trains that connect cities. It is really convenient for backpack travelers. More important, those public transportation systems are very affordable.
THe cameras are not there to monitor every single person, they are there to record everything in case there's an incident, then it can be reviewed. With the amount of people moving around it would be impossible to monitor individuals.
@@hugooguh9014 And why would they pay for identifying 10 million people using it per day? They're not using it unless some problem comes up. Why would they care what an ordinary person going to work do?
@jimmylam9846 Financed by city's GDP. In the US, the money of GDP goes into the pockets of a few billionaires. In China, the money of GDP goes into the pockets of every citizen.
It's just a convention from the planned economy era of China during which all public transportation only charged a very affordable fare symbolically because of socialism. And this convention continues until now. Likewise, fares for public transportation are also very affordable in North Korea (Pyongyang Metro).
Wonderful of you guys to share this massive and impressive Shanghai Metro...very clean, well maintained and very advanced. Another epic video and thanks a bunch for sharing, Steve lvana.
Here people's taxes are used to subsidize public transportation. in the west people's taxes are used for wars in other countries, $150B++ for Ukraine alone 😅😅😅
It's not for Ukraine, it's just a front as with the rest of the wars to be laundered back into the hands of the plutocracy via the military industrial complex.
@@fabiss23 Nobody is next; if you're even remotely serious and not an agency account spreading propaganda, you are seriously misinformed. 1994 I was still a teenager and the city of Toronto repurposed the Scarborough Subway extension, I was stoked. Fast forward 30 years. I am in my 40s now, married and kids. Yet the Scarborough subway extension turned Light rail above ground instead has just started construction about a year ago. Talk about a life time!! It's all the bureaucracy, red tape and all the political B.S. at the end it's the people of Toronto who suffer.
That’s the same year I heard about the railway between Las Vegas and Los Angeles. And now I’m in my 40s and the railway it’s still in the process. I hope I will see it one day before I pass away.😂
Perhaps the man who proposed to build the railway has left office, and the latter overturns all his decisions, or it is the rivalry between the parties that makes it impossible to continue, and this is the greatest defect of the electoral system
CCTVs everywhere is a must for a secure and accountable society, those who are against it are probably not interested at all in obeying basic rules and laws in public areas.
Besides, if nothing happened in a particular place, that video is not monitored a.k.a nobody sees it, and will be overwritten in a week or so, I don't see the problem..for the general public at least, for criminals or political activists, that's another story.
@@JetWings it didn’t matter if you are worth it or not it’s a tracking system just like WeChat The government is paranoid in case someone causes social unrest or even more they might have fun
The reason that public transportation charge ridilously affordable prices is because these services are subsidized by the government and the government does not deem it as a "loss" as private company does, instead it consider it as a necessary price to pay for overall economy and public good.
just watching your previous videos you are really humble, I like it I wish more foreigners like you could visit China just show the real China Nice videos, wish you all the luck

China has 9 of the 10 largest subway systems in the world. In shanghai,20 lines and more than 500 stations are already in operation. Shanghai’s subway operating mileage has exceeded 830 kilometers. There are another 45 cities get their own subway systems in mainland. All the data is constantly being updated, and it is very likely that it will be out of date by the time you find it.
In fact, it's not easy to get approval for the construction of the subway in China. Many cities that are not particularly big are restricted, although they also have ambitious plans. Even so, China still has more subway miles than any other country in the world.
I've been living in Guangdong for years. Your videos have inspired me to do more traveling around China.I think it would take a long long time to explore all that China has to offer. Thanks for your videos.
Shanghai subway is one of the few cities that can maintain relatively cheap prices and make profits. The subway systems in most cities have more or less financial losses.
The problem of capitalism is to chop up items into small isolated pieces when calculating profits. A cheap transport system may not provide profit as an individual entity but it benefit all people particularly the ordinary Working people save time and money on daily commute and it reduces the cost of living, etc., This will in turn benefit business and commerce to attract people. At least their employee will not be exhausted due to traffic jams, etc., when going to work. The society as a whole will gain and more productive. Profit is a term for a small group of people. Social welfare is for all the residence.
The west always says that we are a dictatorship and undemocratic, but the subway built by the government is not for profit. In order to facilitate people's travel, do you think we are democratic or not?

If you go to big cities in China usually they sell metro tickets for 3 days or a week unlimited... cheaper than buying single journey ticket..but you must go to the counter and ask them...can not buy from machines...in Shenzhen they have 3 days unlimited for only 70 RMB per person...very good deal.
Metro lines here in Edmonton are horrible. The third line for 5 years is not still in service. In the Western world, we claim to have more advanced technology and better built, but it turns out China is a developing country. It has a better transportation system. Metro lines are much better than ours. Buses are not bad either.
Well, Shanghai metro is more than vast, efficient, and clean. It also offers good service Let me tell you a true story happened recently: One of my friends took the No.8 line at one night, and left her bag on the metro after taking off. She called the 12345 hot line and got her bag back in two days.
I just heard about that news yesterday, saying about 400k people left Canada already due to increasing living expenses. Myself also planning to leave once get retired and it confirms my idea after my recent trip back to China.
@lianzijin5955 Yes. High living expenses, lower paid, shitty winter, homeless, failing infrastructure, increasing crime etc all contribute the recent migration out of Canada 🇨🇦, but at the same time millions are coming to chase the Canadian dream. The US is even worse. By the way where are you planning on retirement to in China? I hope you will find your ideal place to retire.
@lianzijin5955 May I ask, are you chinese decent? If so, northern or Southern chinese? That makes big difference in term of culture, language and climate. People always think chinese are the same, we aren't 😂

One of the craziest stats is how fast the metro system grew, especially in the early to late 2000s… Something like in the period of 8 years they went from
3:37 Furina and Hutao spotted. Taking the subway to some comic fes, seemingly. They got all the exciting events in Shanghai. Sending my envies from Beijing!
What particularly impressed me was the manners of some Chinese who would stand up on a crowded carriage to give up their seat. Then they might have to stand up for 30 minutes as the underground train made its way across the vast system before reaching their destination.

Thank you for your video! Welcome to Shanghai China. Qingpu Shanghai 上海青浦 is my hometown and thanks for sharing that. Hope you have a wonderful trip to Zhujiajiao Town. I am living in Vancouver for more than 10 years and I miss Shanghai so much .
The subway stations in Shanghai are indeed old. In the eyes of Westerners, they are clean and advanced, but in the eyes of Chinese people, they cannot be compared with the new subway stations in emerging cities.
If you know that the underground pipelines in Shanghai have been complicated due to different colonial countries in the past, the manufacturing of the Shanghai subway has become even more difficult. If a city like Shanghai operates the entire population of Canada, and everything is so orderly, you will know how excellent the local government's management is.
The doors serves more than just safety factor in fact all metro stations in Canada should have them. When there is a disruption on one of the stations the entire metro network comes to a stand still just imagine the down time and people being late in Toronto's and Montreal's metro systems ! This happened in London this week ...a total disgrace ! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5QLj_ZPN_g0.html
The reason Toronto has bad public transit is not only because of "incompetence" but more importantly, the economy is "Finance Capitalism". China is "Industrial Capitalism". Finance Capitalism channels money into the FIRE sectors (finance, insurance, real estate) for quick returns on investment (ROI). Industrial Capitalism channels money to infrastructure (long term ROI), industry, education, housing etc. Finance Capitalism benefits the top 30% of society where as Industrial Capitalism benefits the majority (Chinese socialism) and lowers the cost of doing business for everyone (i.e. cheap fares). Also, China's State Run Banks are 100% owned by the CPC therefore the State controls money creation. The CPC uses money as a utility for the commons (you can see the results) and since it creates Yuan, no "foreign creditor" can dictate or make demands. In the West, "private" Banks create most of the money (i.e. everytime loans are issued) therefore money is for profit because shareholders want profit ASAP. Unlike the CPC, there is no option to write-off bad debts. This is just a very very brief explanation and should tell the astute exactly why "The West" demonizes China at every turn. Basically any country with a 100% State Run Central Banking system (i.e. Iraq, Libya, Venezuela, Cuba, Afghanistan, Iran, Yemen etc..) is BAD because "private capital" cannot control it and take profits from it's economy (via loans).
Wait till you get to Chongqing and ride its monorail. Not saying Chongqing's public transport is better but that monorail is one heck of sight-seeing metro line for metro lovers. And one of its lines runs through a building.
Try their Maglev train to go to the airport...very fast train...but have to go to Longyang Road metro station to take Maglev to the airport...try it you will enjoy the very fast train in the world
Actually, you can easily add a Shanghai transport card (with the red card design) directly to Apple Wallet, which is super convenient. This card follows the T-union standard, making it seamlessly usable in over 300 cities across China.
Plus, you can also switch up the look of this card in your Apple Wallet, like the recent update with the Cyberpunk 2077 official card face. Cool, right?
The world's longest single-operator rapid transit system by route length is the Shanghai Metro. The world's largest single rapid transit service provider by number of stations (472 stations in total) is the New York City Subway.
i was in shanghai like 15 years ago, then there wasnt these ticket machines, but for such a huge city, a 16 year old european from a small city of 30k people, who could get lost in london or copenhagen, i didnt get lost in shanghai, which is way more bigger. Signs everywhere in english, the metro system was great even then, maps well written, all signs understandable, and what was even more interesting, nearly everybody spoke english, in shopping malls, cafes, attractions, small stores. And then year later went to Tokyo, and i got completely lost, nobody could help with directions, nothing is in any other language than Japanese, and barely anybody spoke english. Its kinda funny, that China who is kinda anti-western, is more accessible to western tourists than Japan, which is pro-western.
Because Chinese government officials are not elected by the public, but by their political achievements, you can say that they have unrestricted rights, but they are really very professional
We don’t anti western actually. 😂We just hate what some western governments has done to China like demonizing us and think what they think and do is so stupid. And we are educated to be open minded and learn from good points of any country in this world. So English is a must in school. Shanghai is a well developed city with rich education resources, so it’s normal they speak English well. We welcome any visitor with good intent toward China.
@@ShuangShi-dq4wf what i could say is, i dont understand why people think that china is an some opposing force, but it most likely has to do with the thing that, china no longer is a place from where cheap low quality electronics come, nowdays made in china actually means that its good and america is fearful that they will lose their economic power.
In China, where good public transportation and safety are top concerns, cashless payments and various rental devices have greatly improved the convenience of people's lives. A lot of people mention surveillance cameras, but it's not safe to walk the streets in the middle of the night without them. Its quality depends only on whether you choose security or privacy. In China, most people believe that installing surveillance cameras in public places is reasonable and that security is more important than privacy. Security cannot be achieved by cameras alone, relying mainly on strict government gun control policies and strong police anti-drug operations. Many people do not know that in the last century, armed conflicts between two villages in China were common and fierce, which led to the later ban on guns. Drug prohibition is due to the Chinese people's deep hatred of drugs since the Opium War, so the attitude of Western countries to drugs is unreasonable in the eyes of the Chinese people. Infrastructure is part of the welfare of the Chinese people. If the government does not implement it, it will be difficult for good infrastructure and public transport services to reach today's level of development. While private companies may be able to do this, the price will also increase exponentially. Yes, I think most Chinese prefer to let the government handle all kinds of important things. People like to walk down the street without fear of being shot or stabbed with a needle. Enjoy well-developed public transport and convenient services. Each system has its own advantages and disadvantages, and the system and model suitable for the country is the best. There is no perfect system in the world. Ideology aside, you might see something more different.
In fact, 99% of the cameras are video recorders rather than surveillance cameras. No one is monitoring through the screen and camera. The function of these video recorder cameras is only to play back and review after something happens.
In China, even if an ordinary person wants to take drugs subjectively, he will find it very difficult to buy drugs. When you can't buy drugs, your addiction will naturally quit. Management from the source is the most effective.

I live in Shenzhen a city of 23 millions, Yes, there are lots of CCTVs. But we have zero car theft for the last five years. Because If your car is stolen, the police can locate it within 15-30 minutes. Also, shenzhen has now record the home invasion( robbery) For many years as well. When I was studying in England, the house we rented was robbed twice. The second time I was even held at knife point by masked men. Needless to say the police did not find who did it. In the video, they purchased one-way tickets, but in reality, if you're a resident of any city in China, your public transportation stored-value card is universally accepted throughout the country. This means that even if you're a tourist from Beijing, you can use the card or your phone's NFC function to pay for the subway in Shanghai. I think this greatly facilitates people's travel.❤
