@@RM-yf2lu because the plants aren't eating the manure... they're using the NUTRIENTS in the manure to grow. Those same "chemicals"/nutrients can be concentrated and sold in a liquid or dry form. The guy who set up the system thinks that controlling the amount of water the plants receive is best to help them grow properly. So he has a controlled watering system so that the plants get just the right amount of water.
