@@zeynand4039 The new West Side Story movie is kinda already doing that with another beautiful and talented Ariana (DeBose) 😊 I hope Wicked would enjoy the same reception
Love that about England.more of a respectful attentiveness for a performance. Also You need to be knock out excellent in England to get a standing ovation especially in the theatres.
@@paulsmith3994As an American, I agree. It's one of my biggest pet peeves about our audiences. Rapt attention and silence until the end is much more appreciative and respectful of talent than noises throughout.
@@paulsmith3994as an American I really hate to hear clapping in the middle of a performance. It’s rude to the artist and the audience. I came to hear every bit of an awesome performance. I don’t want to watch the performers mouth moving and hear the audience clap. Burns me up.
Somehow I simply do not understand why they did not give Cynthia Erivo a standing ovation for this … unless they were so blown away by her performance that they simply did not trust the strength in their legs to actually stand up 🤔🤷
I certainly wouldn’ta stood up. Even watching it on the screen I felt like she blew me to the back of my seat. A voice like that just kinda washes over you.
I had the pleasure working with Cynthia on Genius Aretha. She is an incredible actress and her singing of Aretha's music was magical. I yearn for the day that i may work with Cynthia again. She is a kindred spirit.
OMG, I never thought I would hear anyone who would give Jennifer Hudson a run for her money but... woow nelly, Cynthia you do. Talented legendary women of music - Aretha, Jennifer, Cynthia!
I discovered Cynthia Erivo on Strictly and fell down a rabbit hole on you tube trying to find anything and everything with her singing. She is amazing! She has won an Emmy, a Grammy and a Tony. Love her to bits
Unpopular opinion: she sounds NOTHING like Aretha to me. Having said that, she sounds like Cynthia and her voice is pure perfection. What an exquisite and flawless gift God has given to us in her. Wicked can’t come soon enough! This is Cynthia’s time to shine and what a supernova we are all about to experience!! 🔥🔥🔥
great interpretation of the Queen of Soul's classic track "Never Loved the man the way that I love you". There will only ever be one Lady Soul, but hands up to Cynthia for this version. She was powerful and soulful.
Cynthia is incredible, but the notion that she sounds anything like Aretha is insane. The approach, the tone, the vibrato, the phrasing...all different.
Totally different! Cynthia is gifted but she approaches the material from a musical theatre standpoint whereas Aretha is rooted and grounded in the Black church which is what always gave her voice a certain abandon that musical theatre singers lack (for loss of a better term),
For those who have yet to hear it, find Cynthia's stage performance of "Somewhere" from West Side Story. One of the most beautiful performances ever recorded. Watch the faces of musicians in the orchestra while she sings. It is beautiful.💜
She is Genius Aretha in the movie! She sings like a NATURAL WOMAN! You go girl! Wow! The little you just gave us earn a whole lot of RESPECT on your name!
What makes you say that? She has always been appreciated in the theatre world in the UK and sells out concert venues there. She's been making that transition from theatre to film over the last few years, so naturally more people are getting to know her.
@@yedis1750 Concert sales are not the only measure of appreciation. I'm referring to the recognition she gets as an actress, particularly in film. She's a Grammy, Emmy and Tony winner and an Oscar nominee, yet she's less known to the British public than many British actresses with far fewer career accomplishments. And as one British film producer remarked, that is unlikely to change for an actress like Cynthia because the Brits make so many period films that take place in places like 18th and 19th century Cornwall. Heck, she gets far less respect in the UK than she does in America and that's saying something when you consider how tragically underemployed prominent actresses of color are in the U.S.
I love Erivo's vocals. Like her, most soul singers of the 20th and 21st centuries have been knowingly and unknowingly influenced by the Queen of Soul, Aretha! 💛A true American Treasure. Erivo paying homage to Ms. Franklin is a true delight.
