How fun! I go back and forth between saving crumbs and getting overwhelmed and tossing them. This looks like a more sensible way to use them.

I’m an absolute beginner quilter, and I love this video! I love that you showed and explained everything step by step and very clear. This will be a perfect project for all my sewing scraps. 🧡

The newspaper is key. When yu try this type of random piecing, like crazy quilting, without a tear away foundation, over running the piece underneath becomes an issue, but by being able to tear away and trim, well, it makes all the difference. Thanks so much for the video.

That is a neat idea to stitch two longer pieces together that are different patterns to make one piece to add. I like that and I like your video.

Really cute block…like the idea of using a 5-sided piece to begin with…makes it much more interesting.. ..

I’m interested in the Buffalo pattern. Is there a tutorial for it?

This was too good. One question may seem silly though. Do you just pull out the base paper when done?
@sewnwyoming4878
@sewnwyoming4878 3 года назад
yep, just tear the paper away!

If you use interfacing instead of paper for the foundation, you can leave the interfacing in place - which would give more stability to the block when it is incorporated into the final project, whilst adding a little bit more weight.

Thanks for the Video. One more question: How big are the smallest scraps?
@sewnwyoming4878
@sewnwyoming4878 2 года назад
The narrowest scrap I will use us 1" wide.

Great video, thanks. Do you keep the paper on the back?
@happypuppy297
@happypuppy297 3 года назад
I keep the paper attached until I’m ready to use the block in a quilt. That way it doesn’t get damaged or become distorted.
@sewnwyoming4878
@sewnwyoming4878 3 года назад
The paper does need to come off at some point. Some people keep it on until it gets sewn into a quilt. I prefer to take mine off right away. Hope that helps

What sewing machine are you using here? It looks like you are not cutting any threads after each piece.
@sewnwyoming4878
@sewnwyoming4878 3 года назад
You're right, this machine has a built in thread cutter. The brand is Babylock, and the model is Jane.

Great tutorial. Thank you. I am confused about one thing (I’m a quilting newbie, sorry.) What did you do with the paper on the back? Did you leave it there or did you pull it out? Thanks.
@sewnwyoming4878
@sewnwyoming4878 3 года назад
Yes, remove it after the block has been completed.
@ingfig1
@ingfig1 2 года назад
If you use some fabric interfacing instead of paper, you can leave the interfacing in, and it helps to stabilize all those dodgy little seams. Interfacing is used for garment construction to strengthen facings, etc) - there are a lot of different weights to choose from,varying from very heavy to very light.
