Peter & Matti's Workshop 2023 in Helsinki, Finland: www.helsinkiphotoworkshops.fi/ Matti Sulanto's RU-vid: www.youtube.com/@sulantoblogvlog Peter Forsgård's RU-vid: www.youtube.com/@ForsgardPeter
Hearing the crunch of the snow under your feet made me feel homesick for my country, Canada. I was in Helsinki twice. I liked it, but Finnish is a little difficult…
My wife and I joined a photo club. Every month we submit 3 photos, with one of them based on what we learned from the previous months instructor. At the end of the year we submit our 6 to 8 favorites to a photo book to be posted on the club website. A highlight this year is that we submitted photos and voted on the best ones to be hung on the wall of a local library. We both have one on the wall. It’s fun to let other people see your work. I really liked the format of this video. Thank you!
Hi Robin you my favourite person on RU-vid as a s I’m ledsly blind with 5 percent vidion I go out like see what I can find we’re ever I go To prove you don’t have to have a good eye for photography I am retired fort 10 years I have a number of cameras it like what to wear next lol I have a huge passion capturing what I miss go home see what resault I did
The Three Musketeers! Great to watch them prescribing antidote to GAS problem! We all must concur. We should use our best cameras, the eyes and the mind. Bravo
It's amazing how you cooperate, guys. I really like it. Community of micro 4/3 is strong, friendly, we have many professional photographers across genres, photographers who help others, share their tips and I'm very happy that I can be a part of it.
Great collaboration. Not only are the tips very valuable, but I really dig the positive energy that all three of you are spreading and sharing with us. And in the end, as most of us are hobbyists, it is all about having fun, enjoying photography, making it contribute a tiny bit to us feeling better, isn't it? Thanks for your work!
Great to see the two, no three, of you collaborating on this video, and your passion and enthusiasm is a joy to behold. Hopefully some day we will see similar but shot in Finland 🙂
Amazing suggestions! My biggest leap forward in photography happened when I ran my first 365 Project - I was still using my 12 years old Canon DSLR, and most of the photos weren't amazing at all, but I learnt more about photography in that year than in the previous 10!
good advice thanks guys. Everyone is obsessed with buying bigger better faster cameras/lenses and it's not going to help if you can't master the basic concepts
Hi Robin Hi Matti I appreciated so much finally meet you both in Masjid Jamek LRT station and took some selfies with you two 😀😀 very humble person and i like the way both of you advice for photographer and keep follow your channel and learned so much from both of you. I agreed you opinion that learning photography from others and more explore to the gear are we use and read camera manual to get know everything about the camera we use. For me the fault from us wrongly setting but not the camera wrong. No need to upgrade camera but get most beautiful photo setting and improve from your own camera. Since i still using Lumix GH5 a lot of special things i can get from this camera even though MFT sensors but i really fun using it. Thank you Robin and thank you Matti for this kind of video that always improve us to get more photo.
Thanks for saying hi! Appreciate that, and I think we actually filmed this video after we met you that morning. So it was a good timing you left a comment here. Keep the shutter clicking and enjoy photography!
Thanks for the tips, guys! Great to see my three fav photographers together. I belong to an online club with a Sydney artist cum photographer. He has a very similar outlook to your tips, provided here. I’m glad he has put me on the right track!
Finally updated from the dcm-l1 to the g9 (20 years) - I have to say ive been blown away by the improvements in tech. Funny thing, im still using the old leica lens😊
Thanks Robin, Matti, Peter. As always, pleasant to watch and food for thought. I admire your courage to give buying new, expensive gear a lower priority to improve as a photographer. Did you receive any threats from the industry? (We know where to find you!!!). Improvement is mainly achieved by training the mind and brain. I can recommend Matti and Peter’s workshop. I attended last year’s one. I think I have become a better photographer and I know that photography is more gratifying for me. I have a better understanding of what I am trying to achieve.
3 epic gurus in one video 👍👌👌😊 Would be amazing if all 3 of you met at the same time, and maybe made a little “battle” going out taking photos and judging them together 😊 Maybe using 3 different m4/3 cameras
Robin, Matti's and Peter, you guys are awesome! hope there will be some battles in between you all and let us learn mush more things from you guys. thanks.
While it's certainly great fun to buy new gear, most people can do everything they need to do with classic gear. I would love to have, say, a Sony full frame dslr. But I can do virtually everything I need to with my EM5 and three inexpensive lenses. Sometimes I pull out my Nikon D200 (state of the art 17 years ago) and pop a manual Nikkor on it. Still does the job!
I'm not a photographer, but sometimes take photos. I agree with you especially about traveling. I don't even get out of the house, and now I want to sell my cameras and lenses, except the ones I used in the 80s.
Yeah travelling allows you to see things in different perspective! A lot of us are not "photographers" but we enjoy the process of making images! Nothing wrong i that, as long as we find joy in what we do.
Ain't not no (triple negative) new cameras in my future, just to sharpen my wildlife shooting skills, and landscapes. When chasing my degree in digital photography, I had to learn to mix colors and then paint a photo. I also had to learn the basics of drawing. My final project was designing from start to finish a brochure for a local restaurant! DOH! Cheers!
Yeah, it all comes down to the basics. If we can't even get the basics right, how are we going to progress? We gotta learn to walk first before we can run!
I just made a small run of a book with prints of my work. It's very different to see your project come together in a big way in a printed form you can look at. I used all kinds of cameras with all kinds of sensor sizes and lenses to make the works inside, but the look is consistent
I did upgrade from M4/3 to FF but cautious the new lenses cost you one arm one leg except like me mostly use legacy lenses and shoot manual. M4/3 has a lot of beautiful lenses not expensive, not the case in FF.
Robin can you do a review on the TTArtisan 50mm f2 lens which is a manual lens? I would love to see your opinion on it to know weather i should buy it or not 😃
Without the constant upgrade cycle, most camera manufacturers had gone bust multiple times over. For the camera industry to survive, the ecosystem DEPENDS ON consumers making the irrational choice to buy new gear when there is no rational reason for that. Canon's bottom line will depend on EF photographers to upgrade to expensive RF lenses for example, Canon will not be able to sustain themselves by only selling RF mount bodies for every EF mount body that actually breaks down. So, we need the suckers who chase gear upgrades to keep the industry afloat. And they'll provide a massive inventory of used gear to make it cheap for smart photographers to buy used gear. Thank you to all the GAS suckers!
The sales of camera and lenses have declined, and that has nothing to do with whether there are irrational decisions to upgrade or not. Smartphone is taking over and people value convenience over performance. The professionals will definitely need certain gear to get the job done, if you are shooting wildlife, you can't get away with just the standard zoom kit lens, you need specialized super telephoto, same with macro shooters, or architectural photographers who need that extra wide coverage. I am not saying upgrading is wrong, but upgrade only when it is necessary. As much as the "gear-heads" contribute to the sales, the camera manufacturers are not really doing a great job at updating their technology. Camera/imaging is very far behind if you consider what is happening outside of the industry. While cars are going fully electric, mobile phones have gone powerful enough to do real computing, cameras are almost stuck in the past. The camera manufacturers NEED to quickly catch up and make themselves relevant again, regardless of the gear-heads who upgrade and support them or not. Else, we have more brands closing down in near future.
The only “gear” that needs upgrading is the device between our ears. The “best” cameras/lenses have been on the market for years! Look at the great photos from previous decades. Did these photographers need to wait 10, 20 or 50 years for a “better” camera?
Many improved their photography with only a camera and a lens - with having no capacity nor funds to buy additional gears. Others learned photography with no camera at all. They used mobile phones.
Yeap, we have to develop our artistic sense before practicing our craft!

Sometimes i feel like i just want to upgrade my gear continuously, unstoppably but i rarely take photos with it. I don't know if anyone was the same as me.
