When learning to play it is often assumed that you need to be technically good before you can sound professional. While it doesn't hurt to be skilled it is not as important as you might think. Most popular songs though the ages are four chords or less and when stripped down are really quite simple to play. One of the things however that make a HUGE difference in the way you sound is dynamics. Dynamics can be thought of as how you play the part you are playing. Is loud, soft, picked, strummed, or all of the above. How you play the verse compared to the chorus etc. In this video we will go over some simple but very effective tips to getting you to sound more like a pro. The best part is you can apply these tips to your playing in less that 10 minutes! Check it out. Leave your song requests in the comment section below. Catch ya next time!

I wish more beginners (and a lot of players who think they're way beyond beginners) were taught this. Biggest takeaway I try to leave people with when I talk about dynamics is that if you overplay, you might impress people who know nothing about music, but if you know how and when to hold back you'll be more likely to impress those who actually know what they're doing.

Love it. I used to washboard hard but after playing for hours in my room my emotions would take over and I just felt the dynamics...
@blues61

Nice video Papastache. 1. Vary your volume/attack. 2. Arpeggiate. 3. Add ornaments (hammer-ons, pull-offs). I'd like to suggest number 4. Move your strumming hand towards the bridge or towards the neck. One of my favorite dynamic moves is to sweep the last down strum just a little towards the bridge as I'm coming out of a turnaround into the top of the verse. Alternately, I'll strum on top of the fretboard where it overlaps the body to get a softer, muted sound during a verse. Like the dynamic moves you recommend, this technique is not technically challenging - it's all about adding feeling and emotion.

This video should be called "How to do the easy stuff RIGHT" 😅. Seriously, great job man, you're teaching something here that makes an essential difference between great guitar players and just mediocre ones - and unfortunately this is the kind of knowledge that is "implicit" for many professionals, i.e. knowledge they can't verbalise and thus communicate to others.

Anonieme RU-vidr You have to "hammer" fast. because you're gonna dampen the vibrating string and lose the sound. It doesn't matter how soft or hard you do a hammer on.
