The take-away here, there's more to being a leader than to simply lead. The leader needs to be able to read who he's leading, conditions, level of experience/confidence in those being led, and be willing to improvise, adapt and overcome with the right motivation to achieve the objective at hand. Look at all those good dogs! Years ago, I'd've been a Sister AND Henry loving dog. At 64, Moose is more my speed. Always a pleasure, Stonnie. God bless you in your efforts, thank you for sharing with us.

Willing to improvise - I’m so glad someone mentioned that. Stick to a rigid rule book and that doesn’t teach a dog how to cope with life. So many variables in the world aren’t there?

Love seeing the little shorthair! I grew up with them and they are my dad’s favorite breed, so I always get excited to see one in your videos. It’s always interesting seeing the differences in the different breeds and individuals, and how being consistent can look different with different dogs. Great video! Appreciate it! 😊

Stonnie, I really like the addition of the logs to the small challenges course. Great idea and a great proprioception challenge/lesson. I use logs as "balance beam" obstacles when we're in the woods. Often I'll turn around and see one of my dogs crossing a creek by way of a fallen log and it makes me happy i got them comfortable with walking on logs.

Fantastic video thanks! Nice to see the modifications for the sensitive souls. My pup got a bur in her eye and needs eye drops for the first time. Shes super sensitive and ran away and hid when she saw the bottle. Dried liver treats were not sufficiently enticing. We sweetend the pot with fancy dutch cheese and now eye drop time is acceptable and becoming fun. If the job is tough and uncomfortable you gotta pay top treat!

Thanks for this video. I have a half Catahoula, half lab and she's my sweetie. I have trained her using your methods. She has definitely improved and I am so proud of her. I would like for her to help with deer hunting. I would like for her to be able to track a shot deer that runs off. I am trying to get her used to gun shots now. But I'm not sure how to teach her to track deer. Could you do a video on teaching a dog to sit still in the stand then tracking after the shot, in case the deer runs? Also, retrieving dove and rabbits without biting into them would be a great help too! Thank you for all you do.

I’d say it’s the art of using the right balance of scientific principles depending on the variables. Definitely slightly different from dog to dog and day to day. Like with my dog after a night of rain her nose won’t leave the ground at all! Yet on a warm dry evening she just wants to run and run!

Manage your expectations and don’t expect perfection. Otherwise it’s not fair to the dog or yourself. Even the best guide dog has doggie needs, and is not a machine. Always read your dog, every subtle attempt to communicate and value what they are trying to say (in their own way!). Communication always goes both ways.

Stonnie, what is your opinion on crate-training and how long that stage should last roughly? If it would depend on the breed/personality/etc. of the dog, how so? I heard today from a competition lab breeder today she crate-trains for a year? I thought that was very long, no?

Can you recommend Lab puppy dealers in your area? We want to purchase two females, English or Sporting, later this winter. We would drive to your location from Arizona. We know that Labs are everywhere for sale but we want healthy puppies with solid disposition. We are two old seniors who have had many pedigree dogs in the past. Our last one passed two years ago. Thanks.

My Catahoula/lab mix will listen for a while, but then seems to get tired of it and just do what she wants. Every morning we walk around our 6 acre property then go back to our gazebo and do some command training. Everyday she'll sit, shake, lay down, stay and come. But she'll only come, on command, twice. I can't get her to come on command a third time. She's basically done at that point. Lol. Anyway, I'm trying to get her to do a third time daily but she'll turn her back to me or start playing with something. Maybe I should let that go and just do it twice. I don't know.

George is a Golden Retriever who happens to be light colored. "English Cream Golden Retriever" Is not a breed -- it is a marketing scheme for unethical breeders to sell pups for a premium price. Just like the "doodles"-- the more we repeat these lies, the more people will be deceived. "Doodles" are poodle mixes, and Golden Retrievers are Golden Retrievers, no matter if they are dark golden or light golden in color.
@suehatcher1209
@suehatcher1209 25 дней назад
"In recent years there has been a sharp increase in internet marketing strategies aimed at specifically promoting cream-colored Golden Retrievers. These light dogs are sometimes being presented to the general public as being exceptionally rare or extremely valuable and are often called ‘English Cream Golden Retrievers’ or ‘Rare White European Golden Retrievers’ or ‘Exquisite Platinum Imported Golden Retrievers’. Such cream Golden Retrievers are frequently being touted as being healthier, of having better temperament, of having stronger longevity and the implicit suggestion is that they therefore are more valuable than the more golden-colored Golden Retrievers bred in North America. Due to these common marketing ploys the average puppy buyer sometimes mistakes such light-colored Golden Retrievers for being a separate breed. Nothing could be further from the truth. There is only one Golden Retriever breed, governed by the breed standard endorsed by various recognized Kennel Clubs around the world." From the GRCA (Golden Retriever Club of America) website.
@StonnieDennis
@StonnieDennis 25 дней назад
The breed standard should be changed to reflect available colors or the colors should not be able to be registered.
@suehatcher1209
@suehatcher1209 25 дней назад
@@StonnieDennis The breed standard does not preclude light colors. It says, "Predominant body color which is either extremely pale or extremely dark is undesirable." Undesirable means it likely wouldn't do well in a dog show setting, but it doesn't mean it isn't allowed. The problem with "English Cream Goldens" is the lie that people believe and think they are paying more money for a "rare" or special dog. All Goldens are special dogs :)
@Nil-tz6gy
@Nil-tz6gy 25 дней назад
Cream golden retreivers are acceptable in england - cream goldens in america come from imported cream goldens from england, i.e. english cream. An english cream isn't necessarily from an irresponsible breeder, but they are popular here now. So , as always, just do ypur research on the breeder. Not everyone breeds for show, some people just want to raise healthy pets.
