DISCLAIMER! Hi guys, as I said in the video - I'm not a professional surf/skate instructor. I'm someone who's learning, and this is my process. All of the tips I talk about in the video are accurate and I stand behind them. The action foorage is my attempt in applying them as an intermediate surfer. As I progress I will post the improvement, and am happy to showcase all my mistake :)
Most comprehensive and simple explanation I've seen. I really like how you put it together and explain it. Super helpful to improve my surfskate skills. Please keep more surfskate tutorials coming.
Thank you very much you are the best. You are absolutely right in your introduction, surfing is a frustrating sport, sometimes we spend the session paddling. I started surfskating 15 days ago, and I already feel reassured thanks to your tutorials .
Cool and thanks for watching - make sure you check out the updated tutorials here: Generating speed: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IBoduWaMtds.html Turns: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dfHdY6SliKI.html Had some delays but recording Kick-Turns and snaps which will be available in the coming weeks. Great video, really good for those who have been playing around a little and improving more, might be a little advanced for absolute beginners, but there’s plenty of videos for those, this is great! Gonna practice with these tips! Can’t wait for the snaps!
Thanks Towkeeyoh! Glad you find it helpful and will post snaps soon as well as how to improve the current moves. Feel free to reach out with any questions!

Agree that while learning is the best time to share and (self) coach. These are simple and straightforward videos without too much overwhelming. Thank you. On my 3rd session this week and used your “holding a box” technique- very helpful. Still very stiff, but realizing more and can feel a good 1-2 hard pumps.
Great. Make sure you check out the newer videos on generating speed and turns. Go over my surfskate foundations to help establish good habits. More advanced maneuvers - snaps, will come soon.
Great- glad you find this useful. Make sure you check out the latest surfskate clips - bit more updated and in depth. Here's generating speed: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IBoduWaMtds.html And this is specifically for bottom turns: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dfHdY6SliKI.html
It sure is and thanks! I also don't live super close to the beach so it's helpful to practice the movement and stay in shape! More videos coming soon, thanks for watching!
Hi. Thanks for your tutorials. I'm a 51 year old mom who just bought a surfskate and I'm loving it 😊 Can you tell me what is the surfskate you use? Thanks. Waiting for your new tutorials. Best regards from Portugal 🇵🇹
I love it! Feel free to send me your progress and updates on how it's going. I'd love to hear! I have the SwellTech, you can see a comparison with the Carver here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ksEEvOhliyQ.html Part 1 of the new tutorial just came out! here it is: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IBoduWaMtds.html Parts 2 and 3 will be hopefully in the next couple of weeks. But that first one is the most important one to establish a good foundation so I'd recommend investing in it. -- where in Portugal? coming to visit next spring!
@@ALLaBOARDvideos thanks 4 your reply! I live next to Lisbon but you have a whole beautiful country to explore and plenty of place to surf as well! Let me know if you need some help!
@@ALLaBOARDvideos no, I don't. I've tried it when I was on my 30's but I almost drowned in Guincho beach, during a lesson, so I decided that it was not for me... I love to watch it on TV now 😅

Happy to help! and feel free to ask more questions. You are exactly who this channel is for- all boards! enjoy your time in the water... Winter is coming... (soon)
@@ALLaBOARDvideos Cool! After watching I took my Smoothstar out for a bit of a skate. After an hour I was done, especially trying to pump uphill! Respect for riding the Swelltech too, I've read they are difficult to master! :)
Just got into surfskating myself, and this is super helpful! Right now I don't have the endurance to really compress and extend yet, but I can wiggle and sort of halway carve haha. Thank you for reminding me to record my practice-I don't do that nearly as much as I should haha
Great! So happy it helped. please make sure you watch the updated video. The explanations and my demonstration are much better. Mostly if you’re in the beginning make sure you check out the foundations: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-H1mAGqvLkkk.html Speed generation: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IBoduWaMtds.html Turns: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dfHdY6SliKI.html
@@ALLaBOARDvideos I practiced a lot these weeks. My movements improved. Now I'm compressing and extending frontside, backside. I'm filming my progress too. But my "arm movements" aren't good yet. I see in my videos that's or too loose or too rigid. A friend told me about the "arms ninja position". The arm movements needs to lead all the movement or simply it's a accessory for the balance of the movement? I want to understand the basic movement as a hole. Are you thinking of making a video about it?
@@LucasPinheiroV8 awesome for practicing and improving. Think of the arms being generally forward in front of the body when you’re generating speed. When you turn, depending on the side the arms will lead the movement. So in backside, let your leading arm point the way in the bottom turn and then it has a strong pull back to the front for the top turn. In front side, the back arm (so the right arm if you’re regular) will move down towards the floor to help you lean on the toes but then the leading arm will pull the movement up the wave and then lead the turn at the top of the wave. In any case remember that always look where you want to go this will also guide your leading arm the right direction. Yes- I will do another video soon- I’ll show all my mistakes :) and how to improve it. Primarily with the arms
One last thing, remember that your body moves as one unit in an organic way. So you don’t want your hands just moving around with no purpose. Let it be part of the movement whether it’s initiating it or following it. It’s not easy in the beginning and there are few spots in the video that I would definitely correct myself. But once you get it it’ll just be the way you move on the board. Feel free to email me your video if you want me to take a look
Hi @Lucas Pinheiro Saw the video you posted, although I can't find that message and link now. Would be happy to give you my take on it - do you prefer over email? send me a message and I will reply :)
@@ALLaBOARDvideos for sure. I met up with Steve from Surfskate Love last month. I let him and a few others ride my SwellTech's. They all loved the boards and in fact I hooked up Steve with a lead on where he could get a SwellTech. If you like you can view that day on my channel. It was a great day and turn out here in San Diego. Aloha, Billy
Very good tutorial video, thank you. When you are backside, is your weight more on front foot or back foot (or both) and are you pushing on your heels where your toes are literally up? I find being front side much easier for some reason but when I decompress I never really go backside properly, just more of a slight tilt backside..
Well, that's a good question- first I think backside is often somewhat harder. It makes sense that we'll feel more comfortable leaning forward (where we can see if we fall) rather than backwards... it's mostly mental. When leaning back don't think about lifting the toes. It might still happen, but that's not what's leading the movement, but mostly the idea of moving the body off-center i.e. having the hips and shoulders in diagonal line from your feet. it's a position that you might fall when standing, but the momentum you have on the board will keep you from falling, so I'll admit it's harder to practice if you're going too slow. As for shifting the weight, think about your front foot as the accelerator and the back as the breaks. So very generally when you get into a maneuver, like a bottom turn, your weight will shift a bit to the front-foot because you want to maintain/increase your speed. Hope that helps! more detailed series coming up in the next couple weeks- stay tuned!
Cool video, thanks for the tips! How do you feel riding that JOB Swelltech? I've never tried a Swelltech, but would love to. I ride brazilian version of Yow Meraki system, argentine version of Smoothstar, and argentine version of CX.
I love the Swelltech, but it is way looser than other boards. So, some people that are riding Carver, for example, don't alway like the trucks. For me, it just flows so much better and I connect with it better than Carvers and such. But, at the same time I admit I don't really ride many other boards. I ride the Swelltech in street, and in the park and bowls...
I understand your fear. Falling and getting hurt can always a scary risk, also in surfing! So start real slow, dot rush the movements and use a helmet and protective gear for your knees elbows and wrists. I hope you give it a shot!
Hi Yael. Do you have other skateboards? Perhaps you could highlight their differences in learning and riding them. Your 11 minutes video is very useful and I guess I will start recording myself more often so to improve my performance
@@mp096767 yes! I’m just finishing a few vids this coming week and about to get to work on more surfskate videos. I have several other boards- but do you mean other surfskates? I will do a comparison between the SwellTech and Carver. If you had something else in mind I’m happy to hear!
@@ALLaBOARDvideos yep, surfskates... this single video alone has as much views as everything else you did. you are into something high in demand... :) I have a Smoothstar 77, Swelltech Austin Keen, Carver Emerald Peak C7, Yow Pyzel Ghost, plus some Landyatchts... love it all.. recently shortened the axle to axle size of Smoothstar & Carver to make them closer to my stance (have you seen "The Magic Formula for Choosing Your Ideal Surfskate Deck Specs"? )
