Improved DIY Lawn Striping Kit for Honda HRX217 Self Propelled Lawn Mower

I built my striper after this design and it works great. To avoid tearing your sod and making turning easier, simply sand down the outer edge of the roller until rounded.

I replaced the rear OEM rubber flap with 1/4” thick rubberized, non-slip floor tile onto the existing rubber flap rod. The tile is approximately two times heavier than the stock flap. Under $5 and stripes extremely well. Just thought I’d share for a quick and cheap DIY.

I agree. You never throw away all the random hardware. You never know when you'll need a weird bracket or screw.

Dude why don’t you use the type of end caps that fit INSIDE your main PVC roller, instead of using the end caps that you have on now? That way it’s a consistent smooth roller instead little end bumps...

I have been researching walk behind mowers and there are so many but I think I am gonna go with the Honda thanks to you!!

Nice job on adding the stronger brackets. Now if you can add some more weight to the stripper like a dumb bell bunged to it will probably make even better Stripes.More weight will lay the grass down more for better Stripes.

I know it’s 4yr old video and maybe you have an updated build or video , and haven’t seen . So are you able to attach bag and mow and any restrictions? Have came across several others similar videos and none have bag attached.

How much does it add weight wise to the mower? How hard is it to back up and turn?

What if you had a latch and release system so that you lifted the striper up and the end of the run and it stayed off the ground then released it when starting a new run? Would be handy for if you had to go backwards too.

Are you still using this striping setup on your Honda? I just got a used Honda hrm215 on craigslist this weekend, it has the plastic deck just like this. It's an older mower but it's a Honda so it should run forever lol I think I might build something like this because I have a feeling its 1/5th the price of a purpose built striping kit. Nowhere to bolt up easily like my old Toro, I'm hesitant to drill into the plastic deck I'm not sure how it will hold up to the stress over time with just two attachment points, I might use some longer brackets and mount to the handle bars. Haven't decided yet.
