Another thing this stream made me realize is the tendency indie artists have to want to just flex all the time-- but how that can be at odds with just presenting what you actually bring to the table and have to offer for a potential new fan who is curious enough to have stumbled onto your page.

Thanks for the feedback Jesse. This was really helpful not just to see my own page reviewed but also other indie artists, and seeing what common tendencies/differences we have. I Was able to make some good changes to my artist pages/profiles on a few different sites thanks to this. One thing I'm realizing is the balance between having a consistent voice across all platforms, while tailoring/ hitting the nuances of each specific platform.

I love these videos I've watched them several times there's always something I miss and have to hear again, and every time I rework my instagram it gets better. I'm trying to focus more on being an "artist" on my profile and still let people get to know me.

Thanks Jesse! I recorded 3 singles and now i want to publish them but i don't know where to start. Can anyone give me advice how to successful start releasing my music. What should be the first step?

I'm currently starting the process myself. The first thing I'm doing is showing those around me. I'm telling them how nervous but excited I am to finally put out this first single of mine. Only a very select few know that I'm releasing more than a single. The rest of my friends and followers know that I'm feeling critical about this song because I'm also showcasing previous snippets I had posted months ago, the song art and it's lyrics, the website I built to share it, and the RU-vid video I made announcing the release. You want to diversify the way you announce this one release to give people different perspectives each time. Then you ultimately just need to be strategic about the order of your song releases and how much time is in between them

You say artists should tell stories around their music via social media posts and song descriptions. What comes to mind about doing this without being redundant - because isn't the music itself telling the story? It's a healthy combination of aesthetic and functionality. Put all your important platforms on the with style. Koji is dead now but this applies to all of them. Beacons would be my recommendation

Yo Jesse, what’s the best way to train instagram to link your band profile algorithmically with similar artists? Following the same ethos as creating Spotify playlists on your band profile so when people stream those playlists, that algorithm begins to learn those bands are enjoyed together
