I really wish more teachers were like you. You are explaining ballet in a way that my old teacher never did. Outstanding!

I hope Kathryn you see this, it's another thank you messages but I have to. I have no ideas how many times I had thanked you for all your videos and advice but I think it's never enough because of your generosity in sharing your knowledge to the world. Good karma will always go back to those who do good things, and you are a great example. If I get a distinction or merit in my upcoming Intermediate Foundation Ballet Exam in May, you are part of it, will update you on my result. You have no ideas how much I had improved from all your videos, and I am an adult ballet dancer, nth much bout my dancing background, just a hardworking me and have the chance to go to adult ballet class at the age of 20. My last class, my ballet teacher was scolding me not doing a good glissade in petit allergro (2) and guess what, you came out with this video that my teacher never tell me I need to focus on going down in fast music, just glissade, jete, glissade, assemble, it sounds easy for you but for me, I was struggling until your video and everything clicks like magic. My teacher told me glissade - feet barely leaving the floor but I don't understand why in the internet, all glissade are - feet leaving the floor until your video. I felt so so so grateful, esp when exam is just 2 more weeks, i love you so much kathryn, you had really play a major role in my ballet story. Though, again not only me the one who is suffering from this lousy glissade and lousy landing so I'll share this tips to my fellow ballet mates. Love you again!

Yesss! I have worked on my turnout soooo much and I finally have gotten the 180 while I’m dancing EXCEPT for petite allegro :( I get so frustrated, honestly any tips would be great appreciated!!!

@@AleahZucchi how did you get 180??!!?!?!
@AleahZucchi
@AleahZucchi 5 лет назад
Alexa Cordova tips:constantly thinking about it, stretching constantly and thinking of lifting up and spiraling all the way up from your ribs. If you only think of spiraling from your legs you can’t grow enough to turn out. But don’t force it. My turnout in center is still a struggle but yeah those are my tips
@ericlasterstar2
@ericlasterstar2 5 лет назад
You have to keep your turn out controlled, if you can't do petite allegro fast and keep your turn out start doing a petite allegro slowly and learn to control and strengthen your turn out then increase the speed gradually

What I love about your videos is that, I have been dancing for years, yet you always have a tip I haven't thought of, such as think down for fast petit allegro. I swear I just had an epiphany in my front room! Add this to the fact I learned that I definitely learn visually and I now count backwards in pirouettes and I've got it made! This just goes to show that no matter how long you've been doing something, there is always something new to learn. Thank you x

Even though this video is older, it only really made a lot of sense to me today. I filmed a video of myself doing a petit allegro routine and I realised how many mistakes I was making and I thought "what am I doing wrong??!". Do I rewatched this video and realised that I was really trying to jump high, but the music was so fast that to compensate I didn't really plié. I tried the routine again today with the advice you gave about "jumping just enough to stretch your toes" and I was able to plié more!

Kathryn, I will add your 'push off' exercises to this week's focus. As a (very) adult dancer who is not naturally fast twitch petite allegro is the bane of my dance life. Between remembering the combination, the quick weight changes, and the actual footwork it has been full of classroom angst. Thanks so much for breaking it down this way! I look forward to some exciting progress.

Hi Kathryn! Thanks for these very nice advices! I am terrible at the jumps... it is one of my favourite part of a ballet class to watch, but I am really not good for it... My biggest problem is memory... it goes so fast, and I mix all the steps in my mind! Have you ever experienced that feeling when everybody is doing the exercise perfectly, but YOUR feet just do whaterver they want and you feel ugly and stupid... I really want to improve myself... do you have something to advise for that? Many thanks in advance!

Valentin potten I do the same thing as well ! I really thought I was the only one. My thoughts are taking the time to learn each and every jump in the combo so good that I do it w/out thinking. I think for ppl like us its not neccesarily the fact that we can't do it. Its that we think too hard about it. You know when something becomes second nature to u that I do it on autopilot ? Thats the comfort level we need w these jumps !! So practice practice practice !! Good luck

Can you do a more extended version of this, like echappès battù (yikes, spelling), always closing to fifth and notaccidentally stepping on your feet/losing turnout when it's really fast, and just beats in general? I hope your performance went well, your videos have helped me improve so much!

This is a super helpful video, thank you!! I'm aware this is a long shot since this is such an old video, but by any chance would you do a video on assembles? I always seem to get them wrong in class. I was taught that the first leg goes out and up first, and then the second leg meets it in the air before landing, but I can never seem to do it quickly enough!

Lovely video Katie! I subluxed my kneecap recently and I am out of dancing for about 2 weeks and I was needing help with my petit allegro and I was just wondering if the exercise when you were rolling through your feet would be suitable for my knee. I have been slowly putting weight on and got myself moving but I just thought to be safe! Thanks! Juliette

How often should someone get new flat shoes??
@copiasrats
@copiasrats 6 лет назад
FaithAnne Walker it depends on the person. Some people wear out their flat shoes super fast and have to get many pairs per year before they even grow out of the shoes. My advice for when you need to buy flat shoes is if they are very worn out or if they don’t fit properly. I get my flat shoes once a year.

Hope you can answer my question but when you do any type of jump, when you plie should your knees but right at your feet or over your feet?(if I didn't make sense what if i put it this way should you have a leveled plie or a deep plie when you do any type of jump?) Also does having a deep plie help with jumping higher?

Hi, I’ve been getting shin splints during petit allegro. One of my teachers said she noticed my heels not fully coming down when we were doing changements. She said that was why I’m having the shin splints. I’ve been trying to get my heels to come down to the floor when I do them now, but then I get behind. Because it takes that extra moment to get them fully to the floor. The only way I can jump at a fast pace is to keep more over the balls of my feet. I’m not landing on demi-pointe or anything, the heels do come down as I plie in the landing, but not touching the floor. How can I get my heels all the way down while maintaining the speed of the combination? I’ve seen a few dancers keeping toward the balls of the feet when doing quick jumps, even professionals, but I was told that it’s wrong and not safe. Do you have any advice about how I can maintain speed and also get my heels all the way down at the same time?
@KiraHelenRose
@KiraHelenRose 4 года назад
I also want to add, Ive always been prone to shin splints since I was a child. I used to get them really bad when we would run track in gym class. So I don’t know if it’s fully from a technique issue, or because my body is already predisposed to high impact shin pain.

Your tips are solid, though I really feel like you are rushing through them. And I also feel as though they are incomplete bc of this :/ Perhaps it's not your intention to cover all bases but rather truly only give "tips and tricks" but I feel as though ballet technique is not necessarily conducive to "tips and tricks" so I find myself wishing you would give "the whole truth and nothing but the truth" lol.
