I totally agree! Especially with the eyelashes! I've always felt that something was off with the Hytale avatars and I think the cartoon-like eyelashes help fix that a lot. The avatars need to make a good impression on 1st time players and avatars looking good is important for marketing.
It's crazy how official these videos seem, with music and everything, even though the game is still a couple (hopefully) years from being released! Like every other piece of concept content for the game, it makes the wait more bearable.
Watching this again, Hawkon, and I just love the fact you were able to find such a simple thing and fix it and doing it made a hell of a difference. Keep up the great content, genuinely loved this video.
Incredible video, I can tell you put a lot of effort into this! As a person with a genetic muscular condition, I really appreciate you addressing people with disabilities, and how they can be represented through the character creator. It's not commonly brought up, but in the case of Hytale, I believe it's especially important. Every player should have the freedom to express themselves, and I feel like the potential Hytale has in this regard is limitless. Your solution for the eyelashes is clever, and I hope something similar to it is implemented. Like you said, the more cartoony aesthetic better suits the characters, and helps negate the uncanny valley feel, and it just looks nice. Overall, this is a really high-quality video. Great editing, interesting points, and good visuals. Keep up the good work, I'm proud to say I'm in the under 100 subs gang :D *nO oUtRo?*
Fantastic work as always, man; I continue to be impressed by the nuances and insights of your considerations. As much as I adore the art style of Hytale, I myself worry that the shape and form of player characters being so standardized may contribute to a lack of expressiveness in character designs. An individual character's proportions or silhouette, after all, can be one of the most unique and identifiable features of their design. Of course, there is the issue of fitting assets like clothing or armor to different body sizes and shapes, as well as considering how hit-boxes could be affected. There could be numerous pros and cons to both standardization and diversity in the physique of player characters.
The improvements you talked about would be awesome for a game like this where you are expected to use this character for a variety of servers, mini-games and the survival mode I just think too many options (while never necessarily being a bad thing) could upset folks who just want to get their guy done and hop in their friend's server, keep up the great content folks praise this game so much sometimes its hard to think of all the ways we can improve it further!
I think its important to take note that games like Maple Story 2 allowed for user created content to be viewed by everyone so you ended up being able to make your own custom stuff unrestricted to being client side only / only available in a private server. The solution to inappropriate content was clear rules outlining what was acceptable while vetting player content and allowing a report system.
A game called terraria has an amazing character creation color palate and the way they have hair is also similarly great, you can permanently change your hair style and color to look better and or cooler and it’ll transfer over to say multiplayer survers, same could be done with clothing, just add npcs that can change this stuff
Character creating in hytale is a whole new level.....looks like i need to make one next time by following my mc skins and transform into hytale styles but i need a crown tho to complete my skin so i hope there more headgear too
9:21 there should also be a whitelist option in that case, because there could be unexpected uses for certain items or some exceptions allowed. Regardless great video.
I'm really interested in how server customisation will work. we know it's easy to force a player into a model, but will it be easy to make an entirely custom avatar creator with custom models and features? what about creating a custom gui or hud?
I mean they might add something similar to bedrock minecraft, where people CAN use their own custom assets, but players need to enable playermade skins to be viewable by each player. I.e If a player wanted to import their MC skin, they COULD recreate it fully.
the lack of an afro kills me cause... I have one oh and about the scar part, I agree. IRL, I have a scar I got from a very long time ago on my eyebrow. my twin shares this too... since we did pretty much the same thing. it's on the same side, it's just a slightly different shape
It's a trade-off for getting higher fidelity characters, the Minecraft skin system would not work in this case, so we have to do the best with what we've got. Luckily you would be able to change your character however you want on your private server.
