Welcome to the Elves Attic
Using the rudiments and adapted rudiments from my last video, here I improvise around the kit and try them out with various grooves and jazz solo chops, to give you examples.
I recommend listening through first, and noting where each rudiment is applied, which I was doing erratiaclly. To recreate a section, the shorter the better, listen a few times, and start very slowly.
With traditional grip, I'm working on:
The accents and tap strokes being very different in height and sound
The accent height of accents in both hands being even
Starting the adapted rudiments on different beats
Extending them to different voices
Crossing to floor tom
Increasing rhythmic vocabulary by breaking up the same patterns, and/or extending them as fills
It wasn't until I was watching the footage that I realised that Buddy Rich was using 5-Stroke Rolls/7-Stroke Rolls etc in a lot of his solo work.

Tuning lesson learned:
The relative pitch of the rack tom tot he rest of the kit did NOT do this recording any favours. So the awful sound you are hearing is purely from the Zoom Q4n, run through a few plug ins.
