Troubleshooting BE0, BE4, BE5, and BE7 Alarms in IMPULSE®️ Series 5 AC Variable Frequency Drives
This SOP provides a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot the BE0, BE4, BE5, and BE7 alarms in IMPULSE®️ Series 5 AC Variable Frequency Drives.
2. Procedure
2.1 Enable the Additional BE Alarm Codes
Enable the additional BE alarm codes BE0, BE4, BE5, and BE7 in the programming of the drive
2.2 Select an H01-XX Terminal
Select an MFDI terminal for this to occur. The value is 58.
2.3 Enable the Function
Enable the function known as Brake One answer back.
2.4 Identify the Input Status
Identify the input status. If no input is present, the drive has to see an input indicating that the brake is now open.
2.5 Understand the BE4 and BE1 Detection
The BE4 detection and the BE1 alarm code detection happen at the same time. BE1 indicates movement, suggesting that the drive is seeing too many encoder pulses indicating the load could potentially be moving when the holding Brake is released. BE4 indicates that the holding brake has not released when it should have.
2.6 Reset the Drive
Reset the drive and declare the fault based on functionality after giving the drive a run command and it’s running.
2.7 Check for BE0 Condition
If the Brake release command goes away while the drive is running, that digital input signal goes away and the drive goes into a BE0 condition initially. BE0 indicates that the drive has lost the signal input into the MFDI.
2.8 Understand the BE5 Alarm
If the drive goes into a BE0, it stops operation and then, it goes into a BE5 alarm. The drive is still in the run sequence and is holding the load at zero position.
2.9 Handle the BE5 Condition
If the drive loses the Brake answer back signal while in the standard run mode, the drive goes into a BE5 condition and the drive will suspend the load in “load float”. It is important, if one is in a BE5 condition to not turn power off to the drive until the load is positioned in a safe location. You will get the option to bump the load down.
