@@Codenameotf-rt1zk yep, but my point is, that crocodile was after the same thing we see used here. So it's not like there's this absurdly huge escalation.
The scariest implication is that the based on his reaction, the Navy spy had NO IDEA that the Gorosei are listening to him. Think about it... Imagine being a CIA spy and while hearing a conversation suddenly the US President comes in and says: STOP. LISTENING. FOR. YOUR. OWN. GOOD. It's fucking mortifying.
I just imagine the Gorosei listing his full name, address, and the names of his wife and children. “You heard nothing. Hang up. There was no call picked up today.”
@@TheThOdOr1s See I'm not so sure about that. Vegapunk worked for them for years, he has implied in the latest chapters that he doesn't want to judge the Gorosei as "good" or "evil". That may just be the amorality of a man dedicated to pure, unrestricted science but I don't think that's the case. A number of times the World Government has had the opportunity to snuff out threats or cut off loose ends and either someone escapes or people are allowed to live for seemingly no reason other than incompetence. I wonder if the 5 Elders are really at the heart of everything, Imu or no Imu. I wonder if they aren't acting out of some twisted form of compassion, one that's been warped by over 800 years of timeless existence.

“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Gorosei is always right.”
dont know if am the only one, but somehow all this stuff about the void century and history being erased clicks in a strange way. As if right now in the chaos of the current world we kind of live in the same situations? Somehow i feel like our own history has been adapted to the status quo and we lost memories of who we were, adn there are people pushing for that to deny our freedom. I believe that one piece is somehow a metaphor born out of oda's insight on our modern world
@@SalvaTheGod81 Oda is actually working towards the biggest reveal and meta in the history of the contemporary world. The WG is a stand in for the Powers that Be that currently control the whole world. When the story is about to end, he will drop the big bomb and reveal more blatant parallels between those who run the WG and by extension the One Piece world, and (-(-(those)-)-) who control our real life world. After he does that, those in power are going to be assblasted by this, and the people who have made it that far will see the parallels, and then wonder... did we have our own Void Century in real life? So, there's the big possibility that Oda himself might get prosecuted and One Piece censored all throughout the world, and some kind of "golden age of piracy" will begin where people will search far and wide to find the true history of our world. The Ancient Kingdom is clearly a stand in for Mu/Atlantis, the lost technologies inside the One Piece world are a reference to the people rediscovering lost technologies that get silenced, and this will turn the whole world upside down.
The scarier implication here is that Imu considers knowledge of her(?) existance to be more of a threat to her power than knowledge of the void century. That knowledge only warrants a buster call, but anyone overhearing that Imu exists is grounds for literally erasing everyone and everything in the vicinity.
Funny thing: Lulusia wasnt chosen because Sabo was there, but rather because it was close. This was a test firing. That’s not really connected to what you said, though. I think you’re right.
Spoiler alert, if you're not referring to the most recent events in the manga: I mean, the gorosei and Imu have currently lost access to the mother flame, right? Once the straw hats and vegapunk found out that [redacted] was supplying the gorosei the power source, they stopped them and tied them up.
Can we just talk about the music? Like every bad thing has a theme that boosts its importance... Last time i got THAT Kind of chills was almost 3-4 years ago with kaidos entrance in his dragonform
@@saranwrap132 Probably not thom, becuase if it already happened and knew the consequences of just knowing, you wouldn't for sure waste time asking "What?" xD You would drop that shit faster than what Kizaru can move, lol.
Thing is though he's genuinely saying that to help them. Having to dispose of the whole communications dept and everyone and everything around them is just wasteful and unnecessary.
Pretty sure they were telling them that just as a formality 'cause you can BET everyone working for the comms department that day is gonna get killed as soon as they walk out the room.
For me it’s not just the destruction itself but the implication that the country is being wiped not just off the map but from the very history books itself, with the gorosei planning to rewrite history again. It’s one thing to be destroyed, but to be forgotten is something else entirely. Like what hiruluk said about how people only really die when they’re forgotten.
It's probably because we are shown the reasons for Why it is being wiped and shots of the citizens in it, plus the higher ups acting like such a country never even existed in the first place.
Because the build up and implication of the entire scene is insane. Most shows desensitize you to it by mindlessly having scenes like this all the time, but when it happens in one piece the build up and narrative around it is insanely well constructed. Oda is a genius in storytelling
nah bro thats where youre wrong thats only a small fraction of the mother flame, also the "Island" could be the size of a big ass country if it was not for the fact that anime cant scale anything when animating, alabasta is an example of that.
The thing that makes this even more terrifying in my eyes, in one piece you do not see many on screen deaths. Most major opponents just get knocked out or get put in a spot where thy don't influence the outcome of the arc anymore. This scene is different. Each and every character from old to young, king or civilian, is explicitly shown before the destruction begins. In this instance it was shown that they are all just dead. No playing around anymore. Yikes
I get that there is a criticism to be made about there being a lack of death in the series such as the Pel fake put and such. But to me that is what makes moments like this more impact full, same as ohara we just witnessed a whole country be wiped put and the reactions of all the people there as it is happening
@@danielshore1457Tbf the fakeouts are really cheap and lazy writing. Pel absolutely did not need to be miraculously resurrected, and Kinemon surviving a direct hit from Kaido after already being stabbed was bs. Other than that, scenes like this truly are amazing and show the actual horrors of the One Piece world. After the latest episode, I just hope Imu remains cool and mysterious and isn’t turned into a gag the way Kaido and Big Mom were
This scene was so scary in the manga-- But when I saw it animated I was literally stunned into silence for the rest of the episode-- I couldn't even focus on the rest of it.
Same man. I couldn’t sleep that night. I was just too on edge. And I’m 34 years old. I should be less bothered by this crap at my age, but this hit hard.
Isnt that's what the real govt does in real life, they silent people who rebel aginst them. Look at history, john lennon, etc if u dug up u will know what im talking bout Also the destruction of lulusia is similar to ho nukes can wip out a country.
@@alejandeez When the Incident of God Valley happened, Enies Lobby was already here, including the hole. Im not gonna say more about how Lulusia was destroyed cause you maybe dont read actual chapters and i dont want to spoil anything. But if you have indeed some similarities between Lulusia and Enies Lobby, it's not with the same weapon.
@damidotjawad352 how so? Uranus was likely used during the Void Century as well and Lulusia's scar in the ocean refuses to collapse like Enies Lobby leaving a circular waterfall. The only difference is a large portion of Enies Lobby's foundation survived the bombardment which is odd, but there would probably be a reason (Maybe a powerful prior user of the Barrier-Barrier Fruit?)
@@damidotjawad352 We still don't know whether or not Enies Lobby is the same weapon. I would guess so, but you're correct that it doesn't have to do with God Valley, seeing God Valley was in West Blue while Enies Lobby is in the Grand Line
2:34 "Force of nature" scenes like this are so good at conveying power and awe. Storms are awe-inspiring, but when it was made by the power of a person, it's even more terrifying.
As of Chapter 1116, we now know the scariest part of this scene. Previously it was thought to be that the Gorosei are always listening to all broadcasts... nope. Previously it was thought to be that Imu would obliterate and erase an entire island if even a single person knew they existed... nope. Previously it was speculated that said power was a weapon built by Vegapunk... not quite. No... Now we know... The scariest thing about this scene is that not only was this an ancient weapon being unleashed, but said weapon was being powered by a fraction of Vegapunk's "Mother Flame". Get that? A fraction. A FRACTION! From that, the entire country was obliterated in seconds, a colossal hole was punched into the planet that HAS STILL NOT FILLED WITH WATER! And it triggered a planet-wide earthquake that caused global sea levels to rise by 1 meter. THAT is Apocalyptically horrifying.
Firing the weapon once backed up by some decent quantities of mother flame should flood the entire world, exactly what Imu's gonna do later on in the story.
@Jestiii That's the point! But realize it gets worse... The Noah. The ark-type ship in Fishman island. Who is it meant to carry? Those above or those below? Either way, soon neither may have a place to go since, recall the prophecy of Fishman Island being destroyed by "someone with a straw hat". If Fishman Island is lost then those above and below will have nowhere else to go if the world sinks.
@oalysonpinheiro Oh I have no doubt Imu WILL be involved in destroying Fishman Island. Problem is like I said, that means that those on the surface cannot go down there if the world sinks and instead those down there will have to use the Noah to relocate to the surface... Which... Given human and Fishmen relations are still very fragile at best.... .......... Yeah things are certainly heating up in the OP setting.
Something I find even scarier is the fact that they didn't unleash it because Sabo was there or that lulusia was a rebellious country. No, they legit only did it because they wanted to test the weapon, and lulusia was nearby. Imu and the Gorosei have absolutely no regard for human life and see them as insects
It's as if Imu's presence alone is causing that effect. Shit. Imagine if the Internet existed in One Piece and people began sharing weird stories about this Imu thing and this is the last thing they see on their computers before death 🥶🥶🥶
@@bradonbriffa9690thats why one piece always makes me cry my eyes out with these moments of the story. Under the surface of the quirky/funny story the true depth and darkness of the world is so deeply stemmed from our own world that even whole arcs depict a one to one nature of things going on in the real world (ie dressrosa and china)
@@DukeApplesthat's not the case. Each and every island in the world of one piece used to be something else entirely. A lost land you could say hint hint
@@DukeApples Punk Hazard was introduced as a typical "lol, pure nonsense" Grand Line island and then it was revealed that Logia users duel was what caused it to be this way was one of the biggest nonchalant lore drops in the whole show, the closest thing I remember was that Skypea moment when the citizen said that sea clouds have the same molecule as a normal sea water or a sea prism stone and thats why it drains devil fruit users of their powers
No I don't think so he knows that much, he'll reveal the info of weapons and the intention of the government and also some things that he learned from ohara. But it is obvious that the government will somehow change the course of it and not stop it since everybody knows that punk waa gonna say something really important which will make people doubt

@@imnotakingimnotagodiam..ab9455maybe not for observation, but conquerors I'm sure could do something like that. Shanks and the Gorosei both use it like a walky talky of sorts. Shanks alone demonstrated that the ability to do that reaches way further out than Eneru's lightning could with observation haki
The fact there is practically no escape from this weapon is horrifying. It obliterated Lulusia in what felt like seconds. You have to be nowhere near the island when this weapon goes off. And even if you're not on the island, the tsunami wave that follows is more than enough to capsize nearly any ship in the vicinity regardless of size. This weapon gives The World Government some terrifying power.
with their attack they make sure than no one will escape or survive , its like everyone is punished , innocent citizens or even royal family , it doesnt change anything for their own target
Everything is true except the vicinity part. For spoilers I won’t explain. Manga readers know. If your on the island goodbye everything else is a terrifying spectacle to watch.
@@elitecalf1816for real it's a whole living and breathing world. Not every mangaka bothers to explore the entire world, it's history, and it's people but goada is just that dude

When I first saw this I was so confused like the king prisoner and his daughter like wtf is going on... and then the music drop..had to put that shit on repeat via spotify. This is by far the coldest villian intro ever.
most villains: kills like one dude or takes over a kingdom to show how evil they are Imu: erases an entire country from the map and the records and kills almost everyone in said country just because he didn't care about them enough
spoiler. it is not an ancient weapon. it was a weapon called mother flame created by vegapunk. york , the traitor among the vegapunks had given mother flame to world government. imu was just testing its power
this is one of the ancient weapon -Pluton = (Technology) Giant Battleship that can travel everywhere that Thousand Sunny model on -Poseidon = ( Voice of All Things ) unique Ability to talk ,heard or communication to any animal like Sea king (base on Haki) and a few has ability like this like Momo ,Roger ,Luffy ,Shirahoshi,,,etc -Uranus might be a giant ufo that need mother flame to power it ,also why the only Imu can use it because he/she is an alien
Probably the most scary thing about this is that imu didn't have to see or be anywhere near this for it to happen, just a thought and the whole thing is gone
I imagine he has some sort of devil fruit or haki ability that's like a personally radar that let's him or her watch the whole world without him or her physically being there. Kind of like what shanks did to greenbull at the end of wano, but on a global scale
I think that entity is like imu sama really exists in our real world too . Who is ruling this world without coming in front of us . And we think that all the countries are free and running their own system. But deep down everything is controlled by this entity.
And that person is named Satan. He is the Prince of this world and his demons have authority over the many nations. His reign is temporary and will end when Christ returns
... How much of the world has this been wiped out this way? ... Why are the seas always so chaotic? ... What is the 'Truth of the World' vegapunk? Where's the MAP?
new islands form a lot as well i assume and maybe the one piece world is far bigger than earth i assume and there being tons of uninhabited ones as well.
Or at least a dozen or so Ion Cannons assembled together and set to rapid-fire. They managed to make Lulusia's destruction even more horrific than in the manga.

Oda is always cooking, this came at the perfect time in the series that with all the insanity going on right now in the story this is just something that has to be burned into the back of your mind the whole time, he’s made it feel absolutely like the whole world he has built is falling apart perfectly
Shocker right? An entity who preaches World Peace are the biggest provider of violence and terror? Imagine if this existed in real life!! Phew Thank God its not true right??
This was a "holy crap" moment in the manga. For the anime it's turned into a damn horror moment. The music, the tension, the reactions from the people. Its outright horrifying.
Here's something to add: In Japanese culture the butterfly often represents a human soul flying away to the afterlife. Imu has a room full of butterflies, perhaps they can trap souls?
hmm probably not, god valley is post-blank century. i believe its where the kingdom mentioned in robins backstory once lied. the one clover talked about before getting shot when one of the elders ordered him dead
The very knowledge of it's existence bears a death sentence. The cruelty of it erasing countries, islands, just because it feels like it. The fact that the 5 elders, Kaido tier fighters in their own right and the highest known authorities kneel to it in submission like puppies. It sat on the empty throne for the past 800 years, pulling the strings, altering the very shape of the world. Last but not least, as it's so banale, it injured Sabo with no apparent difficulty, having him flee for his life, something not even Fujitora managed to do. As the story unfolds , we will get to see more and more feats, but the mystery behind it will not be surpassed anytime soon.
Man, Sabo and Dragon REALLY kicked the hornets nest on this one didn't they? How many more islands will meet the same fate as Lulusia just because Luffy, Sabo, Dragon or the Revolutionary Army was there?
Oda is like no other. Please live forever. And by the gods let us hope he stays healthy. If every break of one piece manga gives him another day. Its a week i'd gladly endure for such a goddamn master piece of a story. My god what talent.
Remember when one peice seemed like a goofy anime about people with no cares in the world. Its crazy looking back and realising that that carefree lifestyle was all a fascade orchestrated by the world government. With each episode peeling back the layers further, eventually revealing the darkness of their reality.
Remember when One Piece was made fun of for not killing off its characters except in flashbacks? Man how things have changed since Ace and whitebeards deaths
This is the darkest moment of one piece, my mouth just went fully open I couldn't believe Oda would scortch earth, bro that's straight up genocide. (pun intended)
@@cycosist5156 That's a nice sentiment... but it's unrealistic. The whole point of the Buster Call is that there is no escape, everything is supposed to die.
