In 2013, seven alien species (Votans) arrived on Earth, expecting it to be uninhabited. Confusion and conflict ensued, leading to the destruction of nation-states and the use of Votan terraforming technology, changing Earth's landscape. Decades later, in the town of Defiance, built upon the ruins of St. Louis, Joshua Nolan and his adopted Votan daughter Irisa discover a plot to destroy the town. They decide to stay, with Nolan becoming the lawkeeper. He investigates various crimes, conspiracies, and a buried Votan spaceship while navigating conflicts between human and alien families in this diverse melting pot.

I liked this show. The think the scope of it all was too big though. Some people don't know that they sort of had this live service MMO running side by side with the show. And supposedly things that happen on the show and the game could effect one another. Thus players were supposed to participate in events that would change the plot on the show etc. It was a incredibly ambitious idea. However the game was kinda lackluster. So perhaps it would of been much better off as just a show and all the money could of been funneled to keep that alive.

well for 1 the show was already in like season 4 by the time the game released, and second the game died due to it being TOOOOO P2W.

I was playing the game before the show happened. A quick google will tell you the game came out early april and the show later that month the same year. The second game was them trying to salvage just the game as some weird f2p model thing and it was horrid. to which it somehow lasted until april 2021.@@patrickmurray3846

Wait... they did finish it. There were 3 seasons. As usual, they tried to milk the concept as much as possible. The ending wasn't as bad as, say, Falling Skies. You might want to look for it.

Defiance, both the show and the game had such potential, but it was way to ambitious with how they tried to tie the game and the series together, with the outcome of events in the game, influenced by players, was supposed to effect and change the direction of the tv show.

Yes, it's actually not a racial but a sociocultural issue. But migration beyond a certain level always caused tensions throughout history. Especially if the cultural/social differences are big between the groups. race vs species - It seems like a misunderstanding between us on the terms. You use them as totally separate concepts while in Europe they are also used as synonyms.

The show was decent. Watching made me nostalgic for the game too. Like all live service games though, it fell to the impossible to fulfill need for ever more content and less and less customer interest and thus time and money to bring it into being.

Defiant was a great show. And a great game too. And to be clear: The aliens didnt invade, not at first. At first they tried to ask for uninhabited lands to colonize. Then during peace talks, a terrorist blew up their ship, causing everything form the ship to be scattered and destroy everything.

Hundreds of civilizations invade Earth? Movie only shows a few & no "invasion" just them sharing Earth & fighting. Earth is only planet left? Doesn't make sense & again not shown in movie. You need to work on your titles...
