Wow Gary, your rosemary's are sow healthy looking; very beautiful seedlings! I started my rosemary today among other plants you mentioned. I'm growing as you grow. Your channel helps me a ton since I'm the only one in my family and friend that is really interested in growing a garden. It is nice to watch someone with the same interest as me. thanks

Thanks Gary I will try that, I do have one seed that germinated in paper towel on top of the fridge but it's the only one out of a couple dozen. I'll go check outyour other channel too.

Do you find that many seeds that you get in packets from stores need to go in the fridge first or are there just certain ones that need it more than others to be successful? I’ve done this before for certain seeds I’ve found in nature but hadn’t considered that the store packets would need this step but it totally makes sense. I usually grow from plugs but am trying to grow from seed this year so you’re series has been really helpful!!! Thanks for the videos, your plant yard sale idea was inspiring!!

So it varies. Some do and some dont. I think if the seeds during their travel get chilled those packs do well. But no rhyme or reason. I now have an Amazon Influencer's Storefront. We are in the same Zone, your Rosemary will do beautiful year after year I don't think I could kill mine if I wanted to as a matter of fact I've tried to kill some of it and it still comes back

Well, I have a "black thumb" when it comes to Rosemary survival (my other sensitive herb perennials do well with the same treatment, rosemary fails). During the warm season it grows excellently, reaches 2-3ft by 2-3 ft size. I am in zone 6 so I bring it indoors before frost,... and it always fails early next year while still indoors with plenty of Sun and reasonable watering. Typically by next February it is dead, this year it ceased in January... What am I doing wrong?

@@dusanmal I'm going to let you know what my mother does, she lives in zone 5. When she's cleaning up her garden in the fall before the first Frost, she cuts her Rosemary down to about 4 in. She throws a straw bale on it. It's a perennial so it has to go dormant for a while which is probably why yours is failing inside when it comes to the next spring. Now I am no Garden expert, so I am just assuming this. Then in the spring she takes the bail off when there's no more danger of frost and it just shoots right back up. She actually uses about three or four straw bales because she's got a very large patch of it. It's worth trying it because the plants get so large and they're so beautiful and so fragrant that it's nice of you don't have to start with little plants all over

As I mentioned in response to one of comments, I have the opposite problem, not of germination but of dying rosemary over Winter. I am in zone 6 and before frost I bring in various herbs I am growing indoors to a sunny spot. No obvious pests or fungi, all other various perennial herbs that I treat the same way not only survive but thrive, every species of rosemary I tried dies in mid Winter by starting to dry out branch by branch... till gone. What am I ding wrong?

I did the fridge method with store bought Bonnie seeds, will it still germinate??? Im not sure if they already went through the cold process prior to coming to the store or not...

Please keep us updated if your rosemary survives the winter! I live in Maryland and my healthy rosemary plants always die in winter. I have even tried hardier varieties with no luck. I use to know someone who had two giant rosemary bushes, so I know it is possible in Maryland.

I mine scattered on my property but in on area I laid down slate around it to absorb heat. A sheltered southern facing spot along the house is always best in MD. Maybe neighbors had that and had hedges! Keep it in a pot and bring it in till it’s at least 5 years old they get nice and hardy after a while.

The packet that I bought did not mention I had to put them into the fridge. I already put them in soil with water. I did overseed per starter pot. I planted them about 12 days ago, do they just need more time? I do need to keep the soil very wet, right? And I have a lot of sunlight on them. I did cover the seeds in about 1 cm of starting soil.

They can still germinate without. Ive dont both ways. Sometimes they get cold period as the are getting packed and shipped to consumers. I've had good germination with placing the seed starting soil with seeds in fridge for 2 weeks. This year I think I will try seeds alone vs within a pot/soil experiment. I wish rosemary was a perennial in my zone 2b cause I love it so much. Good luck.
