Unicorn Forever Am I the only one who loved and was irked by it? Okay like I just feel like it was unrealistic (Not the heart but but the message) I feel like it should've ended after he got his heart broken sad stories make you feel more. I was screaming when I first seen it like NO DONT FALL FOR THE STRAIGHT ONES (I'm well aware that I don't know if he was but it gave of that vibe that he was in the the beginning). I feel like if he got his broken and it stayed that way then more LGBT could relate and more homophobes would feels at least slightly bad for their BS.

KeMon, I have a slightly different take... I don't think the other boy was straight... I think he was gay (or bi) and in the closet. I think so many of us have gone through that, where we've fallen for someone who hadn't quite accepted themself or who had only just started to realize their orientation. I've been on both sides of it... the girl who hadn't come out of the closet yet and wasn't ready to give her heart to a girl who had feelings for her, and the young woman who fell for someone still in it. It's hard and it's heartbreaking, but it's not something you choose to go through. I think the message of the film was "the heart wants what the heart wants... love is not a choice." My take on it is that both boys were really only just beginning their journey to realization and self-acceptance...and really, they look to be about that age that many of us start developing those feelings. The red head had already realized how he felt because he's realized he's got a full grown crush on the other boy, but he's still not open about it... the community, or at least the school he goes to, doesn't seem to have a supportive atmosphere. So he tries to hide it but can't because the heart will not be dissuaded. The other boy is, I think, in a very similar situation... maybe only just beginning to feel attraction, but is scared to accept it given the stance from the communtity/school. But when he meets the other boy, who he now knows without a shadow of a doubt has feelings for him, he's confronted with his own orientation. When he looks around and sees the judgment on the other kids' faces, he, like the other boy, is too scared to be open. But when he watches the other boys heart break, it gave him the courage to seek him out... and that gave him the courage to let his own heart beat and be open to feelings and possibly a relationship.

Unicorn Forever I agree. Building on to that, the heartbreak was such a powerful scene. Being suddenly found out in the hallway of a school, having everyone stare at him that way, that was an incredibly accurate portrayal of what LGBT youth go through. And in that moment, you can feel the decision he has to make; Do I rip my heart in half, or do I submit myself to the hatred of my peers? He decides almost immediately that the heartbreak would be easier to bear. That speaks volumes.
