Cycling the world - Europe: 157 episode
In the seventh episode of my bikepacking journey in Algeria, part of my endless journey cycling around the world, I wake up in an abandoned building where I stealth camped. Nearly recovered from food poisoning, I continue towards Oran. The ride isn’t particularly interesting, but I find joy in searching for food in a tiny village, discovering a big spring creating an oasis, and trying Algerian pizza again in a city. As I leave the village, a sandstorm’s tail end forces me to build a shelter in a small forest in the desert. The next day, cold temperatures and intermittent rain accompany my ride into Tiaret, where I arrive just in time for an evening storm. With heavy rain forecasted for the following day, I take a hotel room and use the opportunity to review Algerian pizza.

A dust storm, cold weather, rain, and a hotel room with a bed you can't sleep in. That's some hard riding right there. At least the room was only 12 Euro's, totally acceptable when you have heat and are dry. Small victories.

Hello david. I enjoy lot Ur videos. So sincere what's in Ur mind is on Ur mouth great. I miss my country Algeria. Our people are also great. I laughed about what u said about selecto. All tourist loves it Algerian also they think it's the best drink for me it's like chewing gum it taste sooo bad. Hhh about the cans of beers U did not see if U will go to my region Kabylia U will just see cans of beer every where. 😢 It's sad we do not know how to preserve nature. Algerians knows how to take care of humans but not of ecology it's sooo bad for my country. Again Dave thanks for your videos and may our Lord take care and protect U. Again thanks for Ur visit

Je rêve de revenir voyager en Algérie sur cette belle terre qui me manque tant. Pouvez-vous me dire quel budget prévoir pour passer 1 mois complet ?
@DavideTravelli
@DavideTravelli Месяц назад
You should, it’s a wonderful country. I have always difficulties to give budget estimates because I travel very frugally. I mostly sleep in my tent and eat the most cheap of foods. In my opinion 200/250 should be enough for a month but if you want to be more comfortable perhaps you should budget a bit more

I'm so glad to be able to see my country through the eyes of someone who wasn't born here ! keep it up sir and i hope you will be back agan in the future

Also i don't know if you noticed Davide but this year in Algeria we had more Dust winds coming from the south i am in Sidi Bel Abbés and sometimes in Oran, it is hard to do biking because your body needs more oxygen and you are breathing faster, and the dust gets inside your mouth and nose ! i think i would say its weather change i wouldn't call it global warming, Algeria weather really changed alot from when i was a kid in the 90s ! now it's more impredictible one day you have dust wind, a nother day some sun but rarely rain specially during summer

@@DavideTravellihoping that youre doing well! its a shame because its a beautiful country but i'll join you with this, i also won't ever go back to Austria, people there loves country music, and they act like they can't speak english when it comes to communicating with a foreigner ! i had a different experience i faced alot of problems with administration and also with people because we both look the same i'm also bald ! but i look more african because i'm less white than you lol , but i know that people there are not really doing their country a favor to promote tourism really ! i'm happy that people in Algeria are more welcoming ! and that's why i planned to go do a tour in the south of France because there are alot of Algerians there ! like Marseille is like Oran in Algeria ! i mean Algeria was a french territory for more than 130 years ( 1830-1962 ) and so they left alot of architecture ! anyways sorry davide to know that you also had a bad experience over there ! i mean the Moustache guy also was austrian so this brings some questions over the austrian mentality ! ok take care man

Davide, thanks for your candor.

Thank you for watching. Sorry if you felt insulted but that's my experience, for example in that hotel there was no sheets and the blanket that should be in contact with my skin is clearly not replaced every guest. I have been in other cheap hotels in Arabic regions and had the similar experiences. The hotel in Mostaganem were the police booked me the first night and I went back for my last night had clean sheets but the pillow cases are not replaced for every guest. Perhaps you can afford higher standards hotels like the one the police brought me in Bou Saada.

Great video Davide! May I ask why you pitch the tent in the room. Why not just sleep on the floor on your own air mattress and sleeping bag?
@DavideTravelli
@DavideTravelli Месяц назад
Because the floor of the tent is very clean so I can keep my gear clean, spread around my cloths and quilt. You're also sealed from annoyances like, mosquitoes, bugs and small animals. It takes less than 5 mins to pitch the tent and 90% of the times I dont even use the flysheet.
@DavideTravelli
@DavideTravelli Месяц назад
I think I've misread your comment, I was thinking of when I camped in the abandoned house. But I pitched my tent in the room because the floors are never fully clean but my tent is. I have a quilt but even if I was using a sleeping bag you need to do some temperature management and perhaps spread it around, spread my clothing etc. It's just a clean, self contained environment that makes my sleeping time more relaxed and cosy with minimal effort.
