The role of Sally is tremendously challenging from a vocal standpoint with a range from low alto to operatic soprano. VC is one of VERY few to be equally adept throughout all the vocal range - and on top of that, her acting is so mesmerizing!
This is such a perfectly acted and nuanced interpretation, that the fact that it is sung is almost irrelevant. I wonder if the subtleties of her performance were picked up by the audience in a large theater. In 2011, Chicago Shakespeare mounted a very intimate 3/4 thrust production of Follies. Victoria Clark would have been perfect for that production.
Hi! I didn't see the LA production, but I saw VC do this at City Center Encores. I sat in the last balcony, and every bit of VC's subtlety reached us waaaaaaaay up top. Excellent work always shines and makes an impact.
I agree....much better than Bernadette Peters (who I like), less mannered. Victoria is one of the best also a nice lady. I ran into her in a local marker and she was lovely to me....
