Thank you Francesca, and Mrs. Giovana❤, for the excellent idea of starting this youtube channel during lockdown. I did not know about it til 2024, I am hooked. Giovana is an outstanding personality, she represents Sicily, and the Italian-American culture❤she is so savvy, classy, and intelligent. I did not know she was also a teacher, and artist!! God bless your authentic Spirit, now looking fir your books.
I’m so glad I found your wonderful channel! My grandparents immigrated from Sicily. Sadly my grandfather died before I was born and we moved from my grandma when my sister and I were young. She is no longer with us and we truly regret not getting her recipes written down. For YEARS we looked for these sausage rolls that we loved. I found your tomasini recipe and made it with my son. I cried when I tasted it. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. It was just like having my grandma back.
Giovanna you are a gift to humanity, absolutely adorable. You have such warmth, charisma and eloquence. A gifted teacher with a true passion for cooking and such a gorgeous way of imparting knowledge. Thank you so much!!! I love your channel, you are amazing! X
🍉🍉🍉🍉🍉I'm in love with this intelligent, talented, fabulous woman I just met an hour ago. First, I watched her ragu video and now this birthday video from 2 years ago. I will be binge watching as much as time allows today. 💋
It is so special for a vegan like me seeing someone so traditional making traditional recipes that are already vegan or that can easily be made vegan without missing out on anything, especially the sentimental food memory that we have of many of the dishes we grew up eating! Thank you so much for all you bring to us with your knowledge!
Thank you, Virginia. Most Mediterranean recipes are traditionally Vegan. When I edited my book for the newest edition, I was surprised at how many of the recipes are marked Vegan!
I'm late to the celebration because I just discovered your channel, but happy birthday Giovanna! I love seeing you with your beautiful granddaughter. You certainly can feel the love and special energy!
Such a radiant beautiful image of you and Howard on your wedding day Giovanna!!🎉❤ “I read a lot, if you can’t go there, read” 🎉 A massive smile appeared on my face at the beginning and remained through out!! Brava!!!
Dear Arcangela, thank you for your beautiful words! But, I couldn't get past your name, because I have cousins name Muccio, and one was even named Angelo Muccio! The family originally came from Ragusa.
@@GiovannaBelliaLaMarca Auricchio is my father and he was born in Salerno, Italy. Muccio is my husband's father and he was born in the United States but his ancestor were from Campobasso, Italy.
This warmed my heart this morning. She's fantastic and the videos are excellent. Thanks for taking the time, they're being enjoyed all over the world. 🍉
My grandparents came from Acquaviva Platani and emigrated to Binghamton NY early in the 20th century. They died when I was too young to appreciate their struggles and dreams. Thank you for bringing Sicily back for me.
I just started watching your videos. Not only do they teach about food and cooking, but for imparting a bit of culture in them. MIlle grazie signora Giovanna!!
Living in New Zealand 🇳🇿 Q and A Giovanni with your granddaughter is spectacular. As a first time viewer to your window it's an ogler for me. Your presentation wraps around my thought process in awe of you. The history almost had me in tears. Then suddenly always optimism. Thank you from NZ to Italian 🇮🇹Nonna Kitchen on the Cliff ❤❤😊
Delightfull to watch!!!! What a lovely lady you are Giovanna. So articulate!!! No wonder you are a teacher. Sono contentisima di scoprire il tuo RU-vid channel!!! Auguri!!!
What a delightful way to spend a Saturday Afternoon…watching your cooking videos and this video….thank you so much, you are a joy to watch and learn from❤
Im sitting here in the South of France, 10km from Italy, and I cannot help but smile the entire length of any of your videos. Nor can I control my appetite or desire to rush down to the market in Ventimiglia to collect ingredients to try some of your recipes! Think I will give the ragu a try with my mum at the end of the week with fresh Italian produce! Thanks for the lovely insight into your life, into a piece of history, and into your cooking secrets! Che Bella vita! Edit: and to learn you practice Batik! I grew up in Indonesia and Batik is my favourite pattern-making! My batik shirts are my pride and joy! I think we would all love to hear about your artistic endeavours, it sounds (and looks from those brilliant photos of your husband and yourself!) that you’d have plenty of interesting thoughts and wisdom to share!
10:56 i am Indonesian so this is very special to know, Giovanna 😊 i have Italian relatives who also live in New Jersey, i love them dearly and Italy will always hold a special place in my heart. so grateful to be part of this channel enjoying these treasures of yours and to have found you through Pasta Grannies, i hope you and yours are well. 💛 i could listen to you talk for hours! hehe
Thank You so much Alexandra! I love to share traditional recipes and to take the mystery out of cooking. Continue to enjoy Pasta Grannies as much as I do; that channel is truly a treasure! I love how our traditional cuisines bring together wonderful people from every culinary culture. Thank you for watching!
Happy birthday! Thank you for all of the friendship you have brought us ❤️ I loved hearing about how you and Howard met, what a lovely story! It’s always such a pleasure spending time with you,and big thanks to Francesca for doing such a great production job! I love you too!❤️
Besides the utensils you mentioned I also love my pastry cutter and potato masher. So many uses for them in the kitchen. Then there is my cream wisk that was my Grandmother's. I still whip cream by hand using this. It brings back memories of watching Grandma making whipped cream knowing there was to be a special dessert that night. It reminds me there were not always electric kitchen gadgets.
What a lovely well presented well spoken beautiful woman!! Thank you both for your efforts and relaying these recipes. lots of love from Melbourne Australia
How great to get a peek behind the lovely scenes already! I am a food loving grandmother (in the south of the Netherlands) of still younger grandchildren; but I can vividly imagine how great this getting together in a working relation ship must be!!! good luck and stay well. and thank you again for sharing. Mac
Lucky David. He is mouth must be watering when he knows what his Italian mama will prepare for him LOL. We all love Italian food whether is authentic or infused
Ciao, Giorvanna! So good to see you once again at Alumni Day 2022 @ Bronx Science on 12 June. Just completed watching this video, which I enjoyed immensely. Thank you for celebrating Italian food, and in particular the cuisine of Sicily which was a great part of my growing up with my maternal Sicilian nonna. I wish you a belated Buon Compleanno for this year (I would have wished you in person if I had watched this video earlier and realized it was exactly a week before we met again at Science), and many, many happy, healthy returns of the day. Cento di questi giorni!
Grazie Mille Tom. It's a pleasure to see you at our beloved Alma Mater. Stay well, enjoy cooking, and Ciao until we see each other again at Alumni Day 2023! ❤️ Giovanna
I’ve only just found your channel and oh my goodness I love it. You are truly a delight to watch and learn some beautiful Sicilian recipes. As a vegetarian I love finding tasty recipes from around the world and you certainly delivered some delicious recipes. I hope you continue to share your recipes as you have so much to share with the world. With love from Angie 🇬🇧
I hope all is well with you both. This is wonderful. Thank you for sharing the Nona knowledge. I greatly appreciate the comment about Sicilian cooking recipes easily adjused to make vegan and plant based....i will be purchasing your books! Your container garden and reading books are also a shared passion. Your birthday corsage is a real beauty. I just discovered this, we are traveling to Italy in March 2024, i appreciate the insights about Italian language, "like bread". As my nona would sign off, xoxo to you both. Respectfully, Andy.
Happy birthday Giovanna, I love Italy its such a beautiful country, with very friendly people and the food in Italy is fantastic. Good to listen to all your stories and your recipes are delicious. Keep the recipes coming. 😊
Ms. Giovanna - I just knew you were an artist! I could tell by your home, the way that you dress, and the way that you present beauty in all of these things and the food that you make! I enjoy your channel very much. Buon Natale!
Thank you very much, Elizabeth. You guessed correctly. I am in fact trained in Art and I enjoy the presentation of the food as much as the preparation and cooking. Felice Anno Nuovo!
Giovanna and Francesca, thank you for this very nice (and more personal) video where your subscribers can learn more about you. I greatly enjoy your cooking videos, which reminds me of my Grandmother's cooking (who was also from Ragusa, Sicily). God bless you both !
Our beautiful mountain town of Ragusa is all over Instagram with lovely views of the three bridges and great panoramas of the city and the mountains surrounding it! Saluti to my Compaesana!
Giovanna, I just found you channel - and have fallen in love! Thank you for sharing you recipes, techniques and love of cooking. I look forward to watching all your passed episodes and looking forward to all your future episodes. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much for this and all of your videos... I LOVE them! It is so amazing to have the opportunity to learn from you Giovanna. I regularly try then out and am happy to report that I am really embracing Sicilian cooking and as a Pescavegan (vegan who eats fish) I am finding it pretty easy to adjust recipes as required and I love the creative process. 🍉❤️❤️
Happy birthday! I look forward to to all your videos. My introduction to you was on Pasta Grannies and was thrilled to find you had your own channel. I share you videos with my friends. Thank you for sharing your recipes, family and kitchen with us.
Your channel appeared during one of my sleepless nights. I learned to cook by helping my grandmother cook. Watching and hearing you made me go right back to her genuine love and warmth and that feeling of care and comfort. Thanks for sharing your many gifts.
After watching this video….I must say you are a VERY accomplished lady!! Not only do you know your way around the kitchen…you are also a gifted artist, writer, teacher, gardener….and these I’m sure are only a few things you mentioned here!! ~ I’m so glad I found your channel!!
Goodmorning, What can I say. The two of you warmed my heart! You have given me so much connection with my heritage. My grandparents were from Catania and Messina. I lost them when I was 5 years old so I missed out of all the wonderful things that you share. I also didn't have a safe and happy childhood. I was orphaned at 17 and on my own. Never the less I am proud to be a Sicilian American. Thank you for giving me your gifts of knowledge. PS: HAPPY BIRTHDAY and the watermelon looks so delicious. It makes my mouth water!
I love your channel ! I have watched all of your videos and made some of your dishes. Your recipies are amazing. My husband is Italian and loves italian food. I have been to Italy 3 times and have learned to make many authentic dishes...mostly from my husband's grandmother and aunts. Their cooking was very much like yours. I tried the way you like bruschetta and it is really good! So simple and delicious. I think so.e of the best Italian food is actually simple dishes. Today I am making your zeppoli for my grand kids.
Good day, Giovanna and Franchesca! Thank you so much for your conversation! It was very interesting. By the way, my favourite food is bread too. Have you recipes of making bread? I have not read your books, but I am sure that all of them are very interesting. God bless you and your family.
What a lovely video and such a delightful insight to your life and legacy of Sicilian cooking! Your granddaughter surely knows her business in doing your videos and how wonderful that you can share these precious moments together. I love your recipes and have tried so many with great success. I especially am going to try to find the frittata hinged pan! I never knew about it! I sometimes have difficulty flipping the frittata and I end up just scrambling everything together. Taste is the same but it looks a mess! I also want to say how beautiful your intro is with your gorgeous view from your amazing home! I would love to know which state you live in with that great view! Also, I live in California and am so disappointed that we do not have the wonderful Italian delis here! We are near San Francisco but even there is not like it used to be. I am from New Jersey and I remember as a child walking into an authentic Italian deli and the aroma was heavenly! The types of pastas, beans, cheeses cookies, candies etc. just overwhelm the senses and you feel transported to your Nonna's kitchen table with a feast before you! And lastly, I just want to say that you are so gracious about your comments about Italian American food. It is certainly altogether different but you are generous in your comments and keep an open mind. That is a powerful thing to do at any age. Thank you so much for this video and I wish you cent'anni! God bless!
Giovanna- Happy belated birthday! I discovered your channel somehow maybe when I was looking for information on scaccia… this mystery dish that my grandmother’s family (who also hailed from Ragusa) would make from time to time (I only vaguely remember having it once, but heard about it often). Well, I was blown away when I found your scaccia video! Then I noticed that the view from your kitchen was awfully similar to the view from my house growing up on the bluff in Weehawken. I told my kids, “look, this lady is from the same town as my grandmother, and it looks like she lives in the same town where I grew up!” They looked at me like I was crazy, but I know a good thing when I see it.. keep up the wonderful work and stay well!
Thank you so much, Rob. we're on the New Jersey Palisades across Riverside Church and Grant's Tomb, just north of Weehawken in Cliffside Park! My family is also from Ragusa!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY - I AM SO BLESSED TO HAVE FOUND YOU. YOU REMIND ME OF MY CHILDHOOD AND MY GRANDMA BOTH SO LONG GONE..YOU WARM MY HEART AND FEED MY SOUL BUT YOUR FOOD MAKES MY TUMMY HAPPY.
What a warm and beautiful video. I recently found your channel and it's like coming home again. Both my husband and I are 100% Italian-American. Both of our grandparents (maternal and paternal) came from Italy, our mothers came from Napoli and Bari, and our fathers came from Sicily. I kept the recipes I learned from our grandmothers close to my heart, but during my working years, I confess that the during the week meals were American and quickly made. Now that I am retired and have grandchildren of my own, your recipes add to the renewal of my soul that I am experiencing during this season of my life. This Thanksgiving (2023) our appetizer table will be filled with the recipes I have learned from you and I guarantee they will be made with love. I also plan to make Tomasini with my 6 year old granddaughter and I pray it will be a special memory for her. Of course, as the years pass, I plan to do much cooking with them too. Thank you for opening your life and home to us. God Bless you! 🍉
Hbd!!! 🎂🎈 congrats on 2k subscribers!!!! And.... Happy Anniversary on youtube!!!!! Can't wait until we reach 1k subscribers 🤣🤣🤣🤣 keep up the good work!!!!!!!
I am so happy to have stumbled upon your videos. There is no better person than you, Giovanni, to learn from on these past-down authentic recipes. I can feel the love in your family of 3 generations, and genuinely wanting to share as you showcase them. After watching most of your videos, I would say, your favourite tool is that peeling knife. It is amazing how you practically use just this to cut and chop almost everything. I especially enjoy watching how you slice up garlic onto the bubbling sauce with such calm manner, it tells how seasoned your are. We benefit from your granddaughter and your hard word in these productions. Please stay healthy and continue sharing. ps: I will definitely get one of your book, AND, visit Sicily soon! Ciao!
Happy birthday Giovanna! ❤ Bread is also my favorite food! Yes, in one hand the bread and in the other hand the cheese! Hello, I'm from Macedonia. You surprised me when you told about the fruit salad of the same name. My father comes from Tikvesh region in Macedonia. There are still remains and an archeological museum of the old Roman city called Stobi. Therefore, it is not surprising that there are so many similarities in our and your traditions and food. Fresh salads, fried or baked eggplant, cheese and caciocavallo, cured meats, wine, pasta, simple tomato sauce in winter, are part of the daily diet. I am happy to have found your channel. Maybe the next video will be about the Macedonian fruit salad, now is the season. Greetings to all! 🍉
Italians did not traditionally make sandwiches, we also hold the bread in one hand and what we call the "Companatico" in the other. Companatico means that which accompanies bread, which could be cheese, olives, fruit, meats, or even chocolate which I loved when I was a child in Italy and even now as an adult!. Thank you for your suggestion of preparing a delicious Macedonia!
