Co-writing with Anthony Newley, Cambridge-educated Leslie Bricusse and Anthony came up with all the songs in Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory and the song Feeling Good. On his own, amongst other things, Leslie Bricusse wrote the songs for Dr Doolittle, including Talk to the Animals. The talent in him, the scenes that he helped create or to continue (British musical theatre and British musical movies), and the people that he also has been connected to in music and elewhere, is so special. There's a mixture of Edwardian revival, Victoriana pragmatism, and hippy /jazz Bohemianism in the late 60s/very early 70s.

One of my most favorite songwriters. I don't know why he isn't on Broadway. The greatest British songwriter, bar none.

I stumbled upon Leslie Bricusse through his composition of the theme for the 1968 film "Sweet November". An endearing and unforgettable piece.

Leslie Bricusse: Brilliant. Plain and simple. Never mind the hits. Look for Something In Your Smile, Walk Through The World With Me, and Crazy World.

Mr. Bricusse is an enormous favorite of mine. Recently in a Burt Bacarach book, Burt is incredulous over the fact that Leslie does not play an instrument. Tough to believe. How can all these complex harmonic settings be accomplished (Scrooge) without knowing and creating music. Melodies are one thing. Lyrics are huge. But the harmonic moves are a very large part of writing songs. Any comments??

Warren Hartman Lionel Bart also did not write music formally nor play and instrument but a lot of his songs shared that same intricate harmony, some songwriters just have the gift of music
