I bought your spring floral set just to check MH out! Your watercolor is AMAZING! I was smitten immediately! I now own around 20 tubes and definitely want more! All other paints (I have a great collection) are waiting in the wings! The colors have a life of their own with their own personalities with vividness, and richness, of colors! I have been using Michael Harding oil paints for years, the absolute best with many traditional hard to find single pigments. I hope that we can buy these watercolors in the U.S. Michael Harding really understands pigment chemistry.
I have a decent MH collection now and love them. Although it's.... expensive. :( One of my Pusaiye Hematite tubes also had a big gap like there was no pigment. I squeezed a small blob first and then pressed it more to get slightly more but it was just air the tube looks like it's 30-40% used but I've barely used 3 small blobs.
I purchase regularly from Jackson's art and saw they had a promotion on the Michael Harding Watercolours. I purchased 12 colours of watercolour paints and after swatching them I was surprised at how silky and thick the paint is though it dances with the water in perfect harmony for light washes. The paints are so vibrant you do not need many layers at all. I also found the paints lift effortlessly. The colour range is amazing and the combinations of colours used in some of the shades granulate beautifully displaying a hidden colour within it. For example, the Imperial Purple, which is my favourite. The quality of the paints in my opinion is better than any American or European brands I have used. They are exceptional in quality and vibrancy. Thank you for producing an amazing product.
His range of watercolours may be good, but I have a couple of problems. He’s playing down the importance of lightfastness, well, I understand where he’s coming from, but lightfastness DOES matter. I have a south facing room, and have framed watercolours on the wall, I try not to have them in full sun, but it’s impossible at certain times of the day. Also, the people who buy my paintings simply don’t understand the importance of keeping the sun off the pictures, hence light fast paints are imperative. My second problem is the price! Are we paying for his name? I think so. Let’s compare his paint to Roman Szmal paints, which are extremely affordable and superb paints. Roman Szmal has a fantastic range of single pigments and his natural earth pigments are second to none, yet you don’t have to mortgage your house to buy a full range of his paints. So what warrants Michael Harding to charge so much for a tube of fugitive paint? Sorry for the rant.
I'm saving up and will hopefully be able to buy some colors from the watercolor range in a few months, they really fascinate me. This was a good interview, thanks for sharing :)
I don't agree on his view on Alizarin Crimson. If I mix Perylene Maroon and Permanent Rose I get a colour that I can't tell from Alizarin Crimson and it will be able to sit a year in the sun without fading. I don't deliberately hang paintings in the sun but nor do I live in a museum where the curtains are closed to protect the art. On the latitude I live the sun rises a couple of hours after midnight and shines in throught windows facing north. The rest of the year the sun is low on the sky and reaches far in through the windows facing south. So why would I choose a paint that will fade when I can get the same result with one that will not fade?
This video makes me want to try these colors because I feel like if I was to meet Michael Harding I would like him as a person. Great demo as well, MH's enthusiasm for his paint was so nice to see. I love playing around with my paints like this.

I absolutely enjoyed this video and I'm falling in love with these paints, the richness and smoothness of the pigments are amazing! Usually I'm indifferent to watercolours, but seeing this makes me very inspired to try again:-) I already played with abstract stuff like this with watercolours 20 years ago, those abstract flows between colours is what can make me really excited about it!

Amazing colours... Mr Harding clearly loves what he's doing and do what he loves. I'm not very keen for watercolours, but those looks great. If they keep quality on same level as oils, they must be great.
Michaels watercolors are the same as his oil paints. What i mean by this is that the same beautiful stregnth you will get in his oil paints you will get in his watercolors. for instance the color mixture that he reccomends for glorously Bougerou, Ingres and Alma Tadema skin tones is: Rose madder genuine, French Yellow Ochre, and Stack lead white. (can be substituted with his cremtiz white if in a pinch) you get the same INSANELY gorgeous skin tones with the very same colors in his watercolor range (with the substitution of Warm white which is a lead white alternative and far better than titanium or chinese white as it doesnt overpower the pigments so much ) which have the same pigments and are formulated to emulate his oil paints. so yes his conumdrum that he faces of his oil paintings being like watercolors and his watercolor painting being like oil paintings is remicnent here and plays a very happy blance.
That might be the most beautiful version of Lapis Lazuli I have ever seen. I have been looking forward to these paint since I first heard of them during the VisionXart conference. It's too bad I can't get them in Canada yet. Any idea when we might see them over here? Or even a dot chart, I would love a dot chart to experience all the different pigments. I know it's not the same as a tube in terms of experience but it would be a good introduction maybe.

Great video - what a lovely man! It was fascinating, interesting and really enjoyable to watch him just play with the paint, and his enthusiasm and passion is very apparent! I'm already a fan of these watercolours, and will be purchasing more in the future! The colours I bought first were Purple Haze, Imperial Purple, and Moss Green. I should have Forest Green arriving this week, too (can't wait!!). I went for the lovely mixed colours first because these are quite different to other colours. The way the colour separates out and granulates is a thing of beauty, and I'm surprised that Michael didn't demonstrate any of these colours in his video! The paints really are highly pigmented and their quality is obvious when I use them. They are a joy to work with! Watrching this video has just confirmed it for me - this is now my favourite brand and I can't wait to try the rest of the range out - thank you so much Jackson's and Michael Harding! 😀
So I’m not alone, I frequently use my watercolours as if they are acrylics and my acrylics & gouache as if they are watercolours… weird no idea why I do that…
I cannot find your watercolors anywhere in the United States. I have tried all the art stores in the Seattle area, and none of them carry the water colors only the oils. Where can I purchase the watercolors?

i often heard that michael harding oil paints is the most pigmented oil paints you can find.... i wonder how much more pigmented is michael harding watercolor when compare to other brand... i want to buy to give them a try, but i already have enough paint to last me for years....
When i see color-pallet’s and color it makes my heart excited and happy my favorites are watercolor and markers pallets i haven’t used oil paints but i will soon. So i am listening to you talk about color and want to give people a wow or shock well that’s how i feel when i see a color pallets every thing you are saying passion ❤👍
I love these interview videos. And this was a hoot. You could take half the transcript and turn it into merch with no trouble. Lovely to see Michael still in love with the products he has worked on for so long. I need to start saving up! As the tubes are large (proper size of course) is there any likelihood of dot cards coming? Much as I’d love to try them all my wallet won’t support that and I could do with help narrowing down the selection.
Awful camerawork, why does it keep showing his face and rarely the ACTUAL PAINTING? Anyone who loves a swatching video knows is use LOTS of water and show the painting process. He doesn’t use near enough water to make juicy swatches and the camera is not on the paper! BEYOND FRUSTRATING
Yep, not much 'painting' going on..I was itching to see those colours really splurged around with a bigger, looser brush to really see what they do. Looking at the tubes, a lot are pigment mixes. Someone in Portugal selling them on eBay. They are 15ml tubes, which means they are not so expensive... really.
I thought the video was fine, he was communicating about colour not doing a swatching session, I enjoyed his enthusiasm for the nature of the individual pigments and the way they behave. There was enough emphasis on what he laid down to give a feel for the intensity of the paint and the way they behave, and really it is his product and he can present it the way he feels best. I have very similar feelings about colour myself and if I want swatch videos well there are hundreds of those about, but this is something different, someone who has seen the process out from the raw material to brush on paper. I would love to own some of these, they are impressive, but I have a lot of paint already, so will have to save up first.

I think your line of WATERCOLOUR is the BEST , the most chromatic most beautiful watercolors I’ve ever used! It’s the very first line of colour that I would love to own the entire line as it really could be a line to use and no other❤❤❤❤❤
