I think he gets enough credit! Blink are a staple throwback band, aging very well, plenty of new(younger) listeners, still very relevant, still getting air time and now Tom has a signature model.
@peanutbutterisfu
@peanutbutterisfu 11 месяцев назад
He’s sold like 30 million albums, probably has sold more signature guitars then any other musician ever, one of the most influential guitarist of the past 30 years so many famous musicians have stated he’s the reason they picked up a guitar and/or blink is the reason they are a musician if you look up every successful band since enema of the state came out there is a really good chance the guitarist started playing because of Tom and/or because of blink it’s not a questionable thing it’s just facts I mean even many of the SoundCloud rappers were influenced by blink many videos of them doing blink covers. Blink is the equivalent of the Beatles as far as serious influence of the past 25 years no other band has been as influential as blink in the past 25 years love them or hate them it’s just facts. What’s really crazy is the different genres of famous bands/artists that are influenced from blink from metal to rap to top 40 pop to pop rock to indie rock to electronic to punk just all different genres of musicians were influenced by blink and many stating without blink they would not exist. On that big of a scale only a few bands have been that influential they are up there with Nirvana and the Beatles. Blink is a massive band they are not as widely respected publicly like Nirvana and The Beatles still a huge band but not as huge as them but they are every bit as influential. With that being said saying Tom doesn’t get enough credit is the furthest thing from the truth if anything he gets more credit then he deserves he’s not some great guitarist technically and not a great singer technically he’s just an amazing songwriter that’s what it really breaks down to not his playing or singing because he’s just an average guitarist and singer but he gets tons of credit for both when so many people are so much better then him but because he’s such an amazing songwriter he gets credit as a good guitarist and singer.

Tom Delonge and minimalist John Frusciante (from the _Californication_ to _By the Way_ era) inspired a generation of kids to pick up a guitar in the late '90s/early '00s. It was just simple riffs, simple chords, no capos, no weird tunings and one guitar for the whole song. What a great time to learn the guitar.

@caliente-frio3966
@caliente-frio3966 11 месяцев назад
@teezee44 I know. That's why I said John Frusciante from the _Californication_ to _By the Way_ era. John Frusciante from _Stadium Arcadium_ onwards is a totally different player. When he rejoined the band in 1998, after getting clean from drugs, I believe he had no guitars. He sold his guitars to pay for his drug addiction, so he pretty much had to learn how to play again and get comfortable in a band. That's why those albums have very minimalistic guitar playing, especially _Californication._ I wasn't comparing Tom Delonge and John Frusciante stylistically. The point I was trying to make was this: because they wrote such simple songs in the late '90s and early '00s, they inspired a lot of beginner guitarists. So many kids started playing guitar by learning the riffs for _Dammit, Stay Together for the Kids, Adam's Song, Californication, Otherside_ or _What's My Age Again?_ For example, _Californication_ was the first song I ever learned. It had everything a beginner needed to develop their skills: a repetitive riff for the intro and most of the verse, a second riff at the end of each verse, a simple chord pattern for the pre-chorus and chorus, and then a really simple solo. Although John Frusciante's playing is better now, I doubt there are many kids learning _Black Summer_ as their first song.

Ive never cared for frusciante personally. Other than his rhythms. I do like the Peppers as a band. But His leads just sound atrocious to me and I find him vastly overrated and sounding out of tune quite often. Idk. Just my opinion. I know he has a cult following. Love the rhythm parts. It’s just all the other stuff I can’t stand.

I love that after all these years, Tom (and Mark as well) still are so humble about their own skills as musicians. I've never once heard them claim they were even good guitar/base players, let alone great ones, and hearing Tom say his goal was just to be "decent" made me chuckle. These guys are actually pretty good now, but they've always given all the credit to Travis in terms of musical talent. Even if he's never going to win any best guitarist awards, he's definitely got an ear for rifts & catchy melodies, and can find ways to make awesome music anyway.

This is great. I always wanted one of these guitars as a kid back in 2001 - my parents bought me a candy red Squier strat and the first song I learned all the way through was What's My Age Again - I played that thing for hours everyday. Eventually I bought a Seymour Duncan humbucker and whacked it in there to get closer to Tom's sound and played in a school band. By the time I had a job and I could even think about buying my own Tom signature guitar, they'd been discontinued for a few years and resale prices were through the roof. Fast forward 20 years and here I am with tickets to Blink at Birmingham, UK in October and a Surf Green (the GOAT colour, not to be confused with Seafoam!) Tom Delonge strat on pre-order and due to be delivered any day now. Fender, Tom and Blink - thanks for being a constant in my life. You guys are the best.

I've been fight a very rare kidney/liver disease all my life (I'm 34 now) and I have undergone 3 separate kidney transplants and 1 liver transplant in my life, alone with a combined total of 10 years on dialysis. Growing up Blink was my favorite band and Tom was my absolute hero. Sadly I brought my gear to an "ex friends" house for a jam session when I was 15 and I left it there because I was supposed to come back the following day to practice together again but ended up going into the hospital that night with a fever and coughing which turned out to be Pneumonia and I was hospitalized for 6 weeks. After I got out I called my "friend" to let him know I was coming by to get everything and he was like "Oh... I thought you were giving it to me because I didn't hear from you for so long". I was like "Dude I was on a ventilator in the hospital unconscious so I couldn't get a hold of you and my parents didn't know all my stuff was there so they never thought to contact him. Turns out while I was in the hospital he sold all my gear including my most prized possession which was my Tom Delonge strat, that guitar was my baby and meant everything to me. I still have never been able to get another one, I really miss it, I haven't been able to find any other guitar that feels and plays so smoothly.. Live and learn I guess.

For Metal this guitar is awesome too. I always liked the Tom Strat. I've played a lot of HSS strats but no one sounds like the Tom Delonge signature. Thanks Fender for re launching this gem of a guitar.

pretty much everything he says in this interview is why he is so successful as a musician, and a lot of why Blink 182 is a successful band. Such a cool attitude and philosophy toward music. Resonates well with me.

Enema of the State was the first cd I ever picked out as like a 5 or 6 year old kid. When I was in middle and high school I got into punk then hardcore. Started going to shows. Playing in bands. Going on tour And we all loved Blink. And would have their shit on repeat in the van on long ass drives. Feels like this guy and his 2 other bandmates are 70% responsible for trajectory of my life and probably the lives of alot of my peers. I fuckin love that they're still kicking. New album fuckin slaps too.

I love many excellent guitarists but i hardly love any guitarist more than Tom Delonge. He hits all the sweet spots with unrelenting consistency. And I have loved Fender since I was 15 years old. What a combo! 😍

I used axes just like this when I played shreddy metal in the 80s. Loved using a simple ax with a hardtail, Invader or Duncan Distortion. Gets the job done.
