On 19 April 2016, Socialist Party general secretary Peter Taaffe debated with Paul Mason, author of PostCapitalism: a guide to our future, on the BBC Daily Politics show
What the hell is the "personal revolution" that Paul Mason is talking about. Surely without the backing of all the people you can't have change and the status quo remains.
Peter won this debate hands down, Mason is way out of touch with the Labour base, ofc we need a fully loaded socialist party, MPS that support Corbyn, as of a few months ago, Mason has gone full liberal, way beyond his roots. Ashamed of him to be honest.
So Mason is saying that individualism is better than socialism? I agree that a lot of young people follow that mindset, but it is so über liberal, pro-capitalist and self interested... not a 'personal revolution' in my opinion. Also I disagree that there is no revolutionary appetite amongst young people, partly because I am a working class north-eastern student and I feel increasingly frustrated at the current situation...
Yes, Connor, our experience is that you are not alone. have you seen www.socialiststudents.org.uk Get in touch to meet other young people who feel the same and build the fight back.
Individualism isn't even mutually exclusive with socialism. Socialism is the best way to let an individual have freedom and realise himself, it's honestly why i'm getting really tired of that argument from capitalist-apologetics.
Well, if look at Mason at convention of Blairites post-Corbyn surge, he says different things. He basically said to Blairites to form their own party because Labour is not centrist party anymore. Quite a reversal. What he proposes in his conversation with Taaffe is just incrementalist politics that can inspire only Blair himself.
