Honestly one of my favourite moments in Snow White was her straight up ordering the dwarves to go and wash their hands. She wasn't taking any excuse from the dwarves and even got them to wash and force grumpy to wash

Why people out here dissin my girl Snow White?

There is no problem in preffering modern princess, like Moana and Esmeralda - they are my favorite, especially Esmeralda - but please, hate Cinderella and Snow White and call them "weak"? I hate this kind of people. Cinderella is a victim of emocional and physical abusive, Snow White is innocent (she's 14 YEARS OLD!!), and there is no problem in being a cute naive girl. Stop blaming old princesses. I love Esmeralda, Pocahontas and Moana? Yes, but i also love Cinderella and the old movies, EVERY DISNEY PRINCESS ARE STRONG WONDERFUL WOMEN!

I’m always so mad when people describe Snow White as a pushover. She absolutely was NOT a pushover. She was so sassy and she was essentially the leader of the house that she lived in with the dwarves and answered to NOBODY. Instead, they had to answer to her. The only times she was “helpless” was when she was chased out of her home (and if I remember correctly, she was about to give up and be helpless before deciding that she would actually get up and try to live on her own an make the best of the situation by herself) and when she was POISONED (unknowingly). Two things she COULDNT control. Any one of the princesses would be helpless in the same situation it’s not because she’s weak. And even through this,she still managed to stay positive and have a smile on her face. She is such a strong princess I better not see any of y’all disgracing this queen

I would also like to point out that thing about her being saved by the prince and "he kissed her while she was unsoncious, there was no consent" as some people like to put it. Just look at the scene. Everyone is convinced that she's dead. This prince finds the girl he fell in love with and, as a final goodbye, kisses her before bowing his head in mourning. That's the extent of it. No necrophilia, no creepy dude being creepy. And you can bet if that was the intention the dwarves would kick his head in.

I agree with this video. I always thought Snow White as admirable, not for complexity or agency but for her kindness and optimism.

Just to put this out there: Snow White NEVER accepted the apple willingly from the queen. The Queen herself INSISTED, DECEIVED and MANIPULATED Snow White to bite the apple. In fact, the Queen was the one who PLACED the apple on Snow White's hands (you can literally see it at 3:45 of this video).

These people who hate the old disney princesses, don't understand how harmonious they are for establishing societal dynamics. Its not actually about oppression, but harmony. I can't enjoy frozen, but I can at least enjoy the old disney stuff.

I think people have a false idea of what’s strong means. Often times The people that seems to be the weakest are actually in fact the strongest while The people who seem strong are in fact very weakest. The reason is mostly because if you’re strong you don’t need to prove that you’re strong.

I love it when people actually watch and understand the older Disney princess movies, instead of just dismissing those princesses as weak characters and bad role models. Thank you for making this video.

I love Snow White she's my favorite Disney Princess. I think the reason Snow White was so positive and cheery throughout the film was because it was made during the great depression and just before WWII. So Disney wanted the audience to react and feel something towards Snow White and view her as a person not just a cartoon character. So making her positive in her darkest moments gave other people hope at that time, that even though things are hard right now it will get better with a little hard work and smile.

I love Snow White but i think most person forgets but she is 14 years old actually the younger of all disney princesses and inocent about the evil queen the last member of her family wants her dead you are more beautiful that her unlike Cinderella ( she is 19 years old and she know her step family never want her ) and with that Snow White still be kind, that kindness made the seven dwarfs give her shelter , and the animal forest to help her to find a shelter and even protect her but also she have character ( i don't know a word for that kind of thing english is not my maternal lenguage) and when she tease Grumpy ( Oww you must be grumpy with a deep voice and when she tells to the dwarfs to wash their hands) but also can be maternal to the seven dwarfs for a line she says " Maybe they don't have a mother" and the animals kinda confirmed that so she feel compassion and empathy because she is a orphan like them ( I don´t really see the evil queen caring about a younger snow white)

Snow White also doesn’t take anything for granted. The reason she cleaned the house was because she knew she had to earn her keep and she couldn’t just barge in and live there for free.

A couple of days ago I saw another video defending Snow White, and basically explains that Snow White is a character designed to appeal to the 1930s. What was happening then? The Great Depression! How does she appeal to that time? Her three main personality traits are kindness, hard working and gullible (which you reference as naivety), while still dreaming hopefully of something better. The gullibility/naivety pushes the plot along in two major points - going out too the woods with the huntsman, and accepting and eating the apple. The rest, well her kindness means the huntsman spares her, the animals help her after she apologies for scarring them by being scared, and in reward for her kindness they lead her to a safe den (the dwarves' cottage). Her combined kindness and hard-working spirit leads her to clean the cottage in hopes the Dwarves will allow her to stay - a sentiment that would have fit in the '30s - work hard and you will be able to retain accommodation/food. That act and her sweet kind spirit do gain her residence with the Dwarves, and after she is poisoned by the Queen, they chase the Queen to her death, in vengeance and grief. In the end, the Prince is basically a symbolic "Happily Ever After" reward. Modern Disney characters with their stories of self-discovery and "I wish the world would give me a better life" would not have gone down well in the 1930s. Snow White, being sweet and kind, and willing to work, is the character they needed back then. More people need to understand that is what she is, a kind, sweet, hard-working survivor. I think with recent events (COVID), that sort of figure should be shown more.

Thank you! Snow White is a wonderful example of someone who stays true to herself in spite of horrific outside challenges. That is the true beauty of Snow White -- that she stays kind, hardworking, and optimistic. Remember her father is dead, her step mother first degrades her to that of the lowest servant (has her scrub the floor in rags), then tries to have her murdered, and the populace is terrified of said stepmother. The only person who helps her --the huntsman-- is murdered himself. The dwarfs are also on her hit list for giving Snow White shelter. Talk about an awful situation! Snow White is RESILIENT!!! This is the kind of hero we need in 2021!

I really like your points about there being different ways to show strong women and it not always having to be stereotypically "masculine" traits. I think this is very important because, as you say, not all females can match that so it's actually harmful to portray it as the only option and a failing if you can't match up. Plus too many things nowadays are showing women just being plain sexist towards men and trying to claim that they're just being "strong and independent". (Prime examples are the charmed reboot where a character said she one of the reasons she disliked a male character was he's a "white cis male teaching women's studies" when he has a PhD and so is clearly qualified! Also I've recently seen a clip from the live action winx show where the main character is talking to her soon to be male love interest for the first time, it is clearly established between both of them that she is new and has no idea about anything around her, but when he starts to offer to help she cuts him off, completely interrupting him, and sarcastically says "what, you can mansplain it to me?"... my issues with that ridiculous sexist term aside, it definitely does not qualify as "mansplaining" if he genuinely is aware he knows things you don't but need to know). OK, mini rant over, point is I think what you have said is becoming even more important than ever! That said, two quick things about the Prince. He doesn't actually have an official name or age. He was never given one for the film, although a few possible names have cropped up (Florin, Frederick, Ferdinando to name a few), some supposedly come from drafts and others apparently to help with marketing for different related properties he appears in. Same with the age, there was never anything official when the film was made because it wasn't really important, so when discussing the movie its not really fair for anyone to judge it based on an age difference that didn't exist when the film was made. Appearance wise he looks close to snow White, very youthful, so I've always thought he looked closed to her age, about 16 and visuals is all the movie gives us to go off of. One interesting fact I also found recently is that he was originally going to be in more of the film, but was apparently so hard to animate that they just couldn't do it. That's why he appears so little in the film. Makes sense considering how ambitious the project was at the time.

Holy crow-it DOES make girls feel bad, and pressure- when all the women they see are “tough”, strong fighters and can’t have any feminine traits unless it includes that first and foremost. I felt this as a kid, and tried so hard to prove myself as tough all the time because I wanted to be strong. Ugh. Thank you for this video ❤️

Whenever I bring it up I always get people looking down on me (I also go to an extremely liberal school for context). Feminism has been blown way out of proportion now a days... Snow White and the 7 dwarves is one of my favorite Disney animated movies. It has a good animation, good songs, great characters, and a heartfelt ending (which is something you don't get in movies these day). Snow White may not develop as a character, but that doesn't make her a weak character. Like you said, the dwarves develop, especially Grumpy, my favorite dwarf. The reason why they develop is because of Snow White. She is the one who changes them. I also didn't mind her love story with the prince. I know people say that was the first time they meant, but was it actually confirmed? Because if you think about it, when Snow White sees him, she knows right away that he's the prince. Maybe they meant before. Also the Evil Queen is one of my favorite Disney villains. I just wish we got to see her interact with Snow White at the beginning of the movie because clearly the Queen is her step mother. Other then that, this movie is a total masterpiece. A movie that should never be skipped. Great video btw. Keep it up.

The old princesses are my favourite, I relate the most to Cinderella, she went through really long physical and emotional abuse which I went through also pretty long, we still stayed kind and help others despite our past so when anyone says that Cinderella is weak and helpless it hurts me also because I feel the people who say that never went through what we went through.

I agree with this! Snow White is much stronger than people give her credit for. Side note: The age gap thing was made up. He's actually eighteen. Still weird since she is fourteen, but it is inaccurate that he is thirty-one.

That whole thing with the prince age gap is false anyway. It's just an internet rumor that spread for some reason after people posted it on a fan-wiki. You can't use the ages of the live-action models the animators used or voice actors to determine the ages of characters, which is what they did. Other than that, I mostly agree with your analysis of the character! There are all kinds of role models.

Honestly, Snow White came from a different time in terms of both the story and the Disney film. And to be honest, I agree that she was strong for what she was. Yes, she's naive, but even the progressive princesses are like that at times. Ariel is like that, Rapunzel is like that and Moana was initially like that because she was overly curious with no sense of caution.

I feel so bad for the prince, he got the shit of the stick; has no official name(fans debater whether it’s Ferdinand or Florian) was gonna have a bigger role, but because animators had little to no experience when it comes to animating realistic human, much less a man, his role had to shrink.

I think it's good to recognize the historical context behind this film as well (which could easily take hours), basically this film came out during the Great Depression era, a lot of people were miserable and hopeless and just going through rough times all around. Seeing Snow White, a princess who was literally forced to be a slave in her own home by the only family she had, was almost murdered, had to flee for her life into a dark and scary forest, and literally the _first thing_ she does is apologize to the animals for scaring _them._ And when she reaches the dwarf's cottage, she doesn't expect to be let in for free because "she's the princess" or whatever, she works hard to help herself out of her situation, and she always does it "with a smile and a song." What a symbol of hope and encouragement she must have been to the people back then. Even when things are bleak, she bounces back. She was definitely an encouragement to me through the horror of the last year (which is still more or less going on now).

It's a shame that people these days are muddied so much by cynicism and scorn even towards something intent on trying to cheer people up and instil a positive message. Just because I'm meek and into housework doesn't necessarily make me a useless drone unable to defend oneself when need be. I'm not saying that Elsa or Wonder Woman are bad characters, it's that there's more to being a strong person than just brunt and kicking butt in the name of progressivism. Ma-Ti of Captain Planet may seem like a weak character compared to Wheeler or Linka, for example. Yet he is a valuable asset as a Planeteer because of his compassion, and it's something the world needs especially today.

Good job, there is another video that goes in depth on the themes of Snow White (innocence) but you did a great job here.

How funny, my favorite princesses are the classic ones lol, Cinderella being number 1. Cinderella gets such a bad rap. Its so much more complex than she was just waiting for a rich guy to save her... and she wasn't even doing that anyway. She had accepted her life and stayed positive and found joy in the horrific situation she was in. When she heard about the ball she just wanted to go to a party, and escape her horrid abusive household for just one night. When she was able to make it there she paid no attention to the prince, he came after her. At no point was she like, "save me!" At midnight she peaces out back to the life she has accepted. Only after she finds out the prince is looking for her does she start to think of escape. I mean the whole story is deeper than what I wrote but this is long enough already ✌

Lovely video! Snow White bad the Seven Dwarfs is one of my favorite Disney movies, and it is my favorite princess movie. I love that you touched on the titular character’s strengths of strong work ethic, kindness, and positivity. She is very proactive in her circumstances not just “waiting around for a man”. I also think they do a great job of showing how she developed friendships with each of the dwarfs.

Also, her voice is so classic. Reminds me so much of that era of music :)

Fun fact, in the original German fairytale she doesn't wake up from a kiss- she wakes up when the prince is bringing her coffin back to the castle so she can be buried with her father & one of the servants carrying her trips dislodging the piece of apple in her throat. I guess Disney changed it to be more romantic?

I agree, I love Snow White she would make a wonderful friend. I also think it's wonderful that the promise is there that she will have happiness and a loving family of her own in her future. I actually know of people who have happy marriages and families. I love seeing a promise of needed help and happiness and family. Like the Sun coming up in the East hope is a wonderful thing in life. There's a song that says it you don't have a dream, how you gonna have a dream come true ?

I know I’m a little late to the party but thank you for making this video because Snow White is my absolute favorite Disney princess out of all of them she has been ever since I was a little girl and I’m sick of all the hate she gets people think that just because she’s not physically strong then she’s not strong at all no she is very strong and she shows that through her kindness positivity and resourcefulness

I'm a few months late but I got this video in my recommendations and I found it really interesting! I, myself, love modern Disney princesses and female super heroes (my favorite are Belle and Wonder Woman) but I hate it when people say that older princesses are weak, because they aren't. Being strong doesn't mean that you can't have a love interest and be girly, it's really toxic to think otherwise.

Has anybody realize that none of the Disney princesses have ever waited around for a man to save them

I really like snow white. She's always been my favorite because she was able to work hard and stay happy during hard times. She's awesome, who cares if a prince had to save her? Not everybody can always save themselves, and that's okay. I think that the movie has a really good message too, that being if you work hard and be positive and kind to others, you'll be rewarded with friendships and an overall better life. It may be a little slow, but it's a great movie, 10/10. And even though snow white isn't the most developed protagonist, I do give this movie a little bit of a pass because it came out in like 1938. Great movie and pretty good princess, in my opinion.

This might be a reach but I'm sticking by that Snow White and the Prince knew each other and already had a relationship before the film started.

I can’t stand it when people call Snow White week and passive, and all that I’m like hello she apologizes to forest animals for scaring them, she offers her services in exchange for shelter from her demented stepmom, she goes total boss mode on the door for not washing their hands and tells them if you don’t, you don’t eat She’s just she’s amazing. Oh, and I meant to say dwarves, sorry that’s a hard word to say with the patient.

At this time with film history, the prince was mostly a metaphor for just the happiness and the light at the end of the tunnel. While Snow does nurture the thought of being with the prince, her main goal presently is to survive out in the world now that she's found a home with the dwarves away from her stepmother who wants to kill her. For her it's about survival, resilience and positivity (not letting the world darken you or keep you from living), which would be relevant and inspirational since the movie was created around the time of the Great Depression and would be relevant for the 2020s (covid).

I feel bad 'cos honestly I've had moments where I think I've judged the older princesses but I think honestly the main difference between them and the newer princesses is that the older ones don't ever physically fight but they're still just as strong. They are proactive and determined, they just live within quite a sheltered and restricted world and in the case of Cinderella and Snow White, they have suffered emotional abuse which takes time to break free from. They also have some fiery moments but tend to be calmer on the whole I guess because of their environments and the time they were created. It takes a lot of strength to remain positive, kind, nurturing and loyal after being treated horribly as well. The older I get, the more I look to them as inspiration, and you can find good things in all the princesses, whether they be new or old.

Snow white is kind and firm and emotionally strong which is why she's still so memorable.

There’s a Disney Book Series called Twisted Tales and its basically what ifs but for Disney and in the book, Snow White, without having her essential characteristics of Kindness, compassion, hard work, empathy, and all around hopeful being taken away was able to lead a revolution to take down the Evil Queen, revealed to be her Aunt, and kiss her prince out of the poison apple stupor. Keep in mind, she still didn’t kill the queen, if I remember right, The Queens downfall was her own. TL;DR, authors understood the assignment

“Not every girl is going to grow up to be a physical goddess.” YESSSSS. Literally the third wave feminism movement can be a pain. If females do anything deemed feminine its a crime and if men complain about anything they’re crucified. It’s like, hating on men for everything and women for being traditional isn’t cute.

Elsa and Anna are not part of the official Disney Princess line because "Disney Princess" is a money-making brand and the Frozen franchise generates enough money on its own to be a separate brand. Just thought I'd point that out. It's got less to do with which Disney characters are actual princesses--if that was the guideline then Mulan would not be included.

Amazing video! Haven't been interested in most Disney princesses since I have watched their respective movies, but this video got me really interested in them and I really cannot wait for the rest of the series to come out!

Regarding Snow White and her prince age gap, the prince being in his 30s is a false rumor. According to “The Art of Walt Disney” Prince Florian is confirmed to be 18, it’s still a concerning age gap with Snow still being 14 but I think we can agree it’s way better than him being 31.

For me, true strength is when someone has lived such a difficult or horrible life but still choose not to be hardened or pessimistic. But instead optimistic, hard working, kind and compassionate. I love my sword swinging baddies but they cant hold a candle to someone who was constantly put down and abused but still remained positive with a smile and a song.

Well the fairytale and movie take both place in medieval,so we can relieved,that the prince is just 31 years old and snow white is 14 years old in the movie. There was a twitter user who made that out, nor Disney or anyone has said anything related with the prince's age, indeed, we don't even now his name, he could be easily Prince Bill and be 6 years old, or if you want Prince Pepito and be 100 years old. Agreed :) The only thing that bothers me about Snow White is she's canonically 14 (*Which was an expectable age for a girl to be weed*) in the medieval time period that is timeframe the film AND of what we know of Nobel marriages it is historically accurate. Usually I can ignore how young she is and just enjoy the movIe but... She's a baby! You're too little to be "Securing heirs" for royal bloodlines, sweetie wait like 6 more years at least YOU'RE NOT READY for Pregnancy!!!

☺️ the other thing is is what if the prince and Snow White knew each other beforehand it almost seems like they probably have known each other for a while especially because first of all the prince knew where to find her like he knew where to go plus the way he looks at her it just seems like they've known each other longer because if he was probably a normal Prince he would probably go and talk to the queen first for permission to run around the castle it seems like the princess been there before knowing where to go and of course she would be shy to see the prince I mean have you seen Marinette from miraculous ladybug she's a bumbling mess in front of her crush wouldn't you be a little shy I just think the prince also needs a bit more defending and to be quite honest there was a point in time where people were forced to be married at very far ages so my honest opinion at least you got a nice good looking guy 😅

I never understood the hate for Snow either, the people who hate her are probably new generation Elsa fans who never watched Snow White and just look at the character and hate on her. It’s sad how kids today only know a bootleg like Elsa and don’t know Snow, Cinderella, Aurora, Tink and some others, but this is honestly Disney’s fault… As a Snow White fan since childhood, it’s sad how Disney themselves BARELY even acknolges Snow anymore, they show all the other princesses except her 90% of the time, but WHY? Snow made Disney who they were… I’m tired of seeing Elsa and the rest of the newer “princesses”everywhere, and it’s sad how they basically worship her and the rest of the 3D princesses instead of her, they will NEVER count as official Disney princesses to me unlike Snow, Cinderella and Aurora (and Tink). Is there any actual documents from Disney stating the age of their characters? I’m finding two conflicting reports on Prince Florina’s (is that his official name?) age: one saying he’s 31 (17 years older than Snow White) and another saying he’s 17-18 (3-4 years older).

She is a Turbo Chad .She is peak Disney Princess since she is not weak like those that would endure half her suffering and become bitter and hateful , but rather maintains kindness and gentility and selflessness while being industrious and active .She is a symbol of the indomitable and unbreakable nature of the Human Spirit , elevating the world and improving the Life of all those around her . And she is German , so you know I am honest when I compliment a German .

One other thing that kind of bugs me and I’m probably in the minority here and that’s fine is a lot of people also prefer the more louder Disney princesses that belt a lot. I prefer Snow White and her soft soprano.
