I was on a road trip from Oklahoma to California in 1987 in a new Acura Legend. I was driving by an airbase when I witnessed two of these taking off. I had never seen them before and it was pretty unsettling. They made one pass over and then circled back. On the second fly over my car suddenly went dead and I lost power so had to coast to a stop on the side of the highway. The aircraft didn’t fly over again and my car started without any issues. It was a very strange experience and one that I still look back on.

The f-117 appeared on the serbian radar, because the bomb bay of the f-117 was still open. They took down only one f-117, with *soviet* weaponry. The serbian ''hype'' is actually pretty sad. Compare the serb's with the ottoman's during the italian ottoman war in Libya 1911. It was the first war, where planes were used at the frontline for the first time. The ottoman soldiers had to take down every plane step by step with rifles.

I was kind of shocked at how small these planes are when I first saw one at an air show in Virginia. I was shocked again at how big F-15's are when I first saw one parked on a tarmac in Florida. F-15's are big planes, kind of like the rhinos of the sky.

I was surprised at just how big an SR-71 actually was. The thing doesn't look big in pictures, but it's actually about 18 and a half feet tall from the ground to the tops of the rudders, and a small child could stand in the afterburners ;v;
@scottgraham4038
@scottgraham4038 3 года назад
@@JetFalcon710 18 feet is tall! I could definitely see an SR-71 being a big plane--certainly a very long plane--big enough to carry enough fuel to do what it does. I was surprised to hear that the fuselage of the craft leak fuel when on the ground so that the titanium sheets that the plane is constructed from have enough room to expand and seal back up in flight.
@JetFalcon710
@JetFalcon710 3 года назад
@@scottgraham4038 Yeah, the SR-71 is also very long. I believe all the space behind the cockpit is just for fuel. It was also usually refueled shortly after takeoff, mostly because the SR-71 could take off more easily with a smaller fuel load. And yeah, it did leak JP-7 fuel while on the runway. There wasn't much risk of it being ignited, though, because trying to light the stuff with something other than TEB was like trying to light engine oil on fire -- it's flammable, yes, but its flash point is too high for it to be lit with matches or a lighter

David Myers Phd Bsc ImechE. It definitely wasn’t useless during its time in combat. It performed the majority of the deep-strike missions, and only one was lost out of thousands of sorties and over almost 30 years. Compare that to Russia losing 4-10 aircraft in just one week against tiny foe Georgia and against Sams that it should have known how to defeat, and then perhaps you will have a greater appreciation for it.

About the targeting system: how can you maintain a laserbeam on a target to guide the bomb? While you are moving past the target? Must be one hell of a laser.
@tonyberuff8981

The laser will stay "locked" on a target while the plane maneuvers.

Funny a Russian did research on what shape is stealthy the usa took this and developed the nighthawk it had many problems due to its shape but with computers make it stable, you guys can go on that serbia shot one down but reality is it made many successful runs. If anyone has the capacity to create something amazing it's the USA.

Huss Dakh they only shot it down because the pilot was flying in a repetitive pattern with the bomb bay doors jammed open. Had that not occured, it wouldn't have been shot down. Learn some facts.

@@brockcherry5303 yea and the pilot used mobile phone during the flight and the cabin window was open and...We shot down that piece of shit.Sadly pilot got away with it.
