I'll try and give you an impartial answer here. CRT is a way of looking at history (a historical lens) that views historical events from a race-based perspective. Followers of CRT believe race is a social construct, that race-based power dynamics are the dominant shaper of both history and the present (intersectionalism), and that racism exists in all walks of life and is often non-obvious or invisible (followers referr to as "systemic racism"). It's the granddaddy of "wokeness." So if you're super, duper woke, you'll probably love it. If you're based, you'll probably hate it. I fall into the latter category.

Critical Race Theory basically judge people based on race and skin color. Why are you successful ? It's because your race and skin color. Why are you unsuccessful ? It's because you race and skin color. What is frightening is that CRT has same core tenet as Eugenics. Eugenics believe that some people can be successful if they have genetic material from certain race and skin color. CRT against Martin Luther King dream that people should be judged by content of their character and not by race or skin color.

I may be the odd person out here but please take a moment to listen to an educators prospective on why Critical Race Theory is important and should be taught in schools. In order to do this effectively, let's talk about what CRT is versus what it isn't. CRT is an educational approach where the main focus is to teach the important parts of history that have not been taught due to a system that takes a white-washed perspective. Our current system focuses primarily on teaching the white-washed perspective versus teaching the entire historical perspective. Now when I say white-washed, I'm talking about an educational system that mainly limelights the histories and successes of the white community, all while suppressing the histories and success of black and brown communities. A lot of those success from the white community were actually accomplished first by members of the black and brown community, yet our educational system fails to make this known. CRT's focus is not actually on teaching the "us versus you" perspective. That's just not accurate or factually correct. It doesn't focus on teaching our youth "who's better" or "who's alpha". It's easy for CRT to be construed if it is taught incorrectly in a way that focuses on this perspective. Any educator who takes this approach doesn't actually understand CRT and shouldn't be teaching. Furthermore, every individual in this video has a valid perspective. In order for equity to be achieved and ultimately complete acceptance of all individuals histories, understanding their perspective is vital. Teaching CRT is paramount in achieving this because it teaches the entire picture, not just the perspective that the majority of us are familiar with. Here's another example of CRT from Hawaii's perspective. The reality is the vast majority of people are taught about Hawaii incorrectly. A lot of people think that the Hawaiian Islands joined the US because they wanted to. That's actually completely false. The Hawaiian islands were their own group before the United States military came in, interested in certain parts; plantations and other things of that nature. In reality, there was an 85% - 15% signed petition against joining the US. In response, the US military forced Queen Liliukalani off her thrown. The reason she stepped down was because she wanted her people to stop dieing for her to protect their land, so she agreed to join the US. When I bring this up, a lot of people are shocked. I know this for a fact because my great grandfathers name was part of the 85%. If we look even further, where "taught" that Christopher Columbus came over and "discovered" America. He didn't discover it, the Native Americans already inhabited the land. In Native American culture, "Columbus Day" is actually referred to as the Day of Mourning due to the mass genocide that Columbus was responsible for. I could go on, but this post would be extensive. The bottom line is CRT needs to be taught in schools. If it is removed, valuable parts of history will be lost and progressive approaches towards educational equity will be hindered significantly.

I'm going to homeschool my children. And no it's not just because of critical race theory. There are other factors in play as well. Such as: Bullying School Shootings School Food Not having control over what they are being taught And there is also the fact that they have the ability to do school all year round. That being said, they have the ability to graduate earlier and enter the workforce even earlier. With all the things I just mentioned, being homeschooled sounds like a good deal to me. What is the poverty rate? 6. What are the gunlaws? 7. Who is the perpetrator? 8. What was the motivation? "School shootings are not a big deal," More or less yes, the likelihood that your kid gets molested by a teacher or abused is much higher. and School shooters tend to have some unresolved childhood trauma that causes a lot of stress that requires an adult or therapist to release that stress. Telling your kid it's okay and they aren't bad people because they were molested prevents mass shootings. "especially for gun nuts." Gun nuts are notoriously non-Violent. I kinda think you are a pathetic excuse for a human let alone a parent and your kids won't benefit from your weakness. Evolution will probably solve this problem, have fun while it lasts.

My mom, dad, aunts, uncles, and grandparents being on the negative receiving end of Jim Crow laws helped me gain understanding of their struggles and ideologies. They passed these stories down in a delicate way so that we could appreciate our liberties. It’s like a piece of history I never learned in detail during my k-12 academic career. Segregation laws didn’t just impact POC, it impacted everyone. Knowing that you had to fear for your life to marry the person you love, or you were limited to working within certain fields, could only live in certain neighborhoods, denied housing and education loans, and only allowed to attend extremely underfunded schools is scary to say the least. I think what is missing are the details here. It’s important to know how segregation affected our country economically and emotionally. It’s not just about slavery there was and agenda and laws in place preventing the advancement of POC. This history is important because segregation has turned into classism and these wealth gaps will continue to grow if we can’t work together.

True, but there is a HUGE difference between teaching history IN AN AGE APPROPRIATE WAY and teaching students racist attiudes (inc racist racial guilt) and using the past as an excuse. Of COURSE the ABC is not going to give a balanced view or debate about this topic. I grew up on the ABC & they have only gotten worse. I suggest ppl like Coleman Hughes or James Lindsay for a more accurate view of what the Priestly Class of CRT actually taught in their own writings. It IS deeply racist and against what MLK stood for.
@pebblepod30
@pebblepod30 2 года назад
There are many cases of CRT being practiced at schools in Lordon County, Seattle and elsewhere where (as CRT actually teaches) children are taught to be racist towards self or Others. Did you know that since CRT practices in Seattle high schools, black students have worse & worse outcomes? Conservative areas do not have this (for black students). Did you know this? Particularly bad for black students bc they are taught they will get away with anything and have lower standards. So not good for them either. But hey, doesnt harm me.
@jmartin24
@jmartin24 Год назад
The thing about it is, when documenting or explaining certain events in American history, the problem is not the “what” but it becomes a problem when the “why” has to be explained. For instance, the event of the civil rights movement can be explained on a surface level as black america fighting for equality and ultimately achieving equality; but it gets a little touchy when having to explain “why” things and events happened surrounding the issue. When you get into the “why” ANYTHING can be considered CRT. But is it fair to simply state that slavery existed and was overcome but to not explain why it existed? Idk… I’m not a proponent of blaming anyone or scapegoating anyone but this CRT thing just seems to be a ploy to erase the long lasting black eye that has blemished Americas true greatness.

I think perhaps the best way to understand it at a glance, is to look at its core tents: 1. Whiteness seen as a property interest 2. Counter story telling (a focus on “experiential knowledge” by emphasizing stories as a way to cast doubt on “myths”-also know as metanarratives- told by the majority. Intertwined with this is the idea of “standpoint epistemology” or the belief that individuals who are members of a minority or marginalized group have the authority on topics of race and racism.) 3. Critique of liberalism (The concept of “color blindness” is perceived to be racist. “Whiteness” is seen as dominant and-as such-CRT criticizes ways on knowing that are perceived to be “white” such as rationality and empiricism.) 4. Interest convergence (The belief white people will concern themselves with the interest of black/brown people only when it suits the interests of white people.) 5. The belief that while race is a social construct, racism is permanent 6. Intersectionality (The belief that different identities intersect, rendering a person particularly vulnerable to oppression/discrimination).

Found my first signs of success 1-2 yrs in the journey. 15 yrs later I think I may have reached and superseded the dream. The journey was hard but in 2 other countries I lived in the system and people here made success attainable. So Here’s my theory… actually more my opinion - some people are just losers and depend on other people to validate their losses or lack of success. Still gripping on to slavery from centuries ago. I think those who want CRT should ask their fellow POCs who found success what they did and how they navigated this so called American system rigged against them. If others can do it so can you. If my kids public school teaches CRT I’m pulling them out and will pay for private schools who haven’t lost their guts and their minds.

I don’t think many people realize this, but this isn’t taught in regular middle school or even high school. This IS a college course. I don’t understand WHY everyone is in such an uproar. I’d like to think a big part of a parent’s job is to instill in their children that their own ideas & beliefs are most important. And one can read, listen and learn about anything & should have a strong enough character not to be bamboozled… brainwashed. We need to teach our kids to smell bullshit! Unfortunately, too many parents aren’t “aware” of how the world works these days, and that’s just not enough to empower your kids. We’ve GOT to do better.

Now he did reject the core values of Marxism which consisting racism and homophobia but he was on board with every other aspect of the ideology that necessitate structuring a society based on 2 main groups (thinkers and workers) along with destribution of wealth and resources strictly managed by the administrative body of the society. @@lunafencoven Oh boy. I can tell you did a two second google search with a loaded question like “was Foucault a communist”. You have absolutely no understanding of Foucault. His goal was not to restructure society by challenging “knowledge and history”. He sought to explain society by looking at society through the lense of power dynamics. Secondly, and this really proves you don’t know anything about him, he wasn’t a Marxist. He was when he was younger, but moved away from politics. If you look at the work he is really well known for, it is his work based around power dynamics and his genealogical method. This is based much off the work of a philosopher named Frederich Nietzsche, with much of his derivations coming from Nietzsche’s book The Genealogy of Morals. Nietzsche was an avowed anti-socialist. Every time a non minority kid is taught he comes from Masters it's damaging and uncomfortable. Every time injustice occurs and hiding the facts or being more lenient to non minorities committing the same crime it's damaging. How about fighting injustice where judges' attornies and government have nothing in place to stop verified injustice immediately. Fighting a supported known injustice then being blocked from getting justice. No lawyer will assist unless you have publicity and money. Your own representation hesitates when fighting injustice due to the hoops you'd have to jump through to hold people in positions of power accountable. Judges and lawyers will even use legal processes to stop you from getting heard in court. Like, oh, you have to find and use caselaw in order to fight injustice or hold people accountable. Meaning this exact injustice would have had to happen before in order for you to have a case ?? Or you have to show that the perps do this as normal practice. 🙄🤯 Basically saying since people haven't been caught before doing the same thing there's no accountability or justice. While you continue to push people away who have experienced traumatic injustice and allow those doing it immunity or protect them from exposing their ring of injustice and disparity contributors?🤔

In other words, it's NOT about saying all white people are somehow racist. It's the opposite. Themes of CRT as listed in "Critical Race Theory: An Annotated Bibliography" by Delgado and Stefancic: 1. Critique of liberalism 2. Storytelling/"naming one's own reality" 3. Revisionist interpretations of American civil rights law and progress (1619 project; anti-incrementalism) 4. Greater understanding of the underpinnings of race and racism ("systemic" racism found everywhere they look) 5. Structural Determinism (where anti-meritocracy comes from) 6. Race, sex, class and their intersections ("intersectionality"/queer theory) 7. Essentialism and anti-essentialism (identity politics) 8. Cultural nationalism/separatism (including "black insurrection")

Let people decide what it all means in the end because there's too much bias and people will teach it different ways they want to like a white racist will probably downplay events while a woke white person might rally up the youth and tell them it's them vs us.

CRT considers black nationalist as part of racial politics. "Whatever the intentions and psycho-cultural needs of black integrationists in the past, it should now be apparent that the exclusion of a nationalist approach to racial justice from mainstream discourse has been a cultural and political mistake that has constrained the boundaries of racial politics." --Race-consciousness by Gary Peller

***Does the school district use Critical Pedagogy?*** A good question for parents to ask the school district, is whether the school use "Critical Pedagogy". k-12 teachers may not teach CRT, but still use "Critical Pedagogy" to explain the world without warning. The following are extracted from a k-12 education resource web site. Critical Pedagogy (CP) is not traditional critical thinking, it has very specific meaning. It is a education philosophy and teaching methods based on Critical Theory, including Critical Race Theory. Teachers that use this method will often bias the class towards an anti-status quo position instead of allowing them to decide if they agree or disagree with the situation at hand. When an individual attains the interest to find out the validity of the statements they inherently must consider themselves separate from the rest of society. The goal exceeds the desire to instill creativity and exploration by encouraging detrimental disdain for tradition, hierarchy (such as parental control over children), and self-isolation. Such a high degree of distrust in generally accepted truths will create or perpetuate conspiracy theories. Critical pedagogists selectively pick icons to interrogate and subvert: for example, Thomas Jefferson but not Martin Luther King. Rather than "liberating" student thought, teachers replace a cultural bias with their own bias. In CP practice, teacher works to lead students to question ideologies and practices considered oppressive (including those at school). After they reach the point of revelation where they begin to view their present society as deeply problematic, the next behavior encouraged is sharing this knowledge with the attempt to change the oppressive nature of the society. Political activism is the bedrock of Critical Pedagogy, just like Critical Theory, or Critical Race Theory. Using Critical Pedagogy in K-12 education, injects politics, and political activism into school. That could be a concern for many parents.

CRT rejects legal discourse "The CLS (critical legal studies) emphasis on DECONSTRUCTION as the vehicle for liberation leads to the conclusion that engaging in legal discourse should be avoided because it reinforces not only the discourse itself but also the society and the world that it embodies." -- Race, Reform, and retrenchment: transformation and legitimation in antidiscrimination law by Kimberle Williams Crenshaw

I actually believe this is a good topic, last week I was walking through a rich neighborhood and I had the police called on me. Apparently I didn't belong there and I was suspicious. Yeah I was just walking through, after they searched me, and degraded me in handcuffs. I was finally able to be let go, the weird thing is the cop Told Me Not to Come Back. We all know where the white neighborhoods are, and we all know where the black neighborhoods are. It's not a secret. Yes a black person can go live in a white neighborhood but it is not comfortable period same as if a white went and lived in a black neighborhood. This kind of stuff needs to be taught I really do believe it would bring kids closer to each other, and if you think it makes kids think they're racists, I feel sorry for you because nothing like this could ever make me feel racist. It is true, if you have been around anyone who has, "educated," themselves on European history it is mostly about how awful we are. Very rarely do they understand the full history. Most know george Washington was a slave owner, but do not know he emancipated his slaves before he died. Nor do they understand that the constitution still protects their well being to this day. The biggest issue is that some how socialism is the answer to racism as well, and I am not talking about universal healthcare, I mean full blown sieze the means of production. Capitalism is racist, really? If they want to change laws, point to the laws you want to change. It really just seems like everything that came out of western society is racist. By the logic of CRT, climate change is racist, and even socialism is racist because marx was a German.

Really we need to look at the whole picture not just blame one group of people and only talk about the bad but only talk about the good when it's somebody that we like.
