Max Chandler Mather Absolutely Stitched Up the Property Speaker & David Crowe. He also embarrassed most of the journalists in the room. The Media got hit for six.🎉

Mike Zorbas came off more smug and arrogant than most tories and that is a feat in itself, hope max doesn't get burnt out too quick dealing with absolute leeches like him.

That property council henchman was fairly condescending. I don’t think I could keep my cool listening to that crap. The movie “Don’t look up” comes to mind.

Max comes across as much more in touch with the devastation we are seeing on the ground right now. Working people and those who are unwaged and struggling are in dire straits. Zorbas seemed to be more interested in coming across as well put-together and charming than actually giving hard-hitting answers and new, impactful ideas. More of the same was the gist of his goal, as well as suggesting the bureacracy just work faster. He did not mention how that might be achieved. Max gets it, because he lives it. more politicians need to follow in his footsteps and live the things they legislate.

Looking at graphs of house prices when negative gearing and the cgt discount was introduced reminds me. of looking at historical temperature graphs for when humans entered the industrial revolution. 📈📈📈

Mather might be bluster and bloat some times… but his core issue is spot on here!

Yeah, I just wish it wasn’t him I had to agree with. Can’t believe Albo can’t just initiate a proper public housing initiative like Singapore.

@@daveb3987 unfortunately he won’t get the votes. Parliament is ridiculous and we’ve backed ourselves into a corner. It needs REAL grit and passion like Max to be honest. Would love to see labor do something / propose something meaningful before the next election

@@MonolithStudiosMelbourne Albo should have asked Singapore’s PM Lee this week when he met with him if he could send a team to investigate their Housing Development Board and setup the same thing. An additional Housing Super plus a program to build apartments that people can pay off with their that portion of Super.

@@MonolithStudiosMelbourne Labour unfortunately won’t propose anything meaningful. They can’t, they are too intertwined with the people and companies making huge profits off the housing crisis. Max got the votes in his electorate. If people want change they can only vote so this kind of policy does have a chance in parliament…

Mike only needed to be asked two questions,; How many homeless people are in Australia? And, how much money is in your pocket? To which, he would answer; Don't care, and MORE!

The public developer should build mostly apartments. Cheap, quality apartments near transport would smash house prices 👍

Too many politicians have rental properties, my opinion, no politician who has rental properties should have no say in housing policy, that includes all parties, I believe the greens have the least members with rental properties.

I now live in Germany since the downfall of the engineering industry here in Australia. I pay 660AUD per month to rent an apartment in Germany and this includes all utilities, internet and Netflix. Pension funds are encouraged to buy apartment blocks in Germany. Australia's appetite for a house flipping economy feeds directly back into the high cost of living. Can you imagine where Australia would be sitting on the OEC's Economic Complexity ranking if there was more incentive to invest in productive businesses. Demand for our expensive uncompetitive mineral resources is also shrinking, as Australia now is competing against many new miners coming online in South America and Africa. Like Keating said, Australia will become a banana republic.

It's almost as though treating the residential housing market as a speculative investment market (Bitcoin comes to mind), and as a well known tax avoidance tool is actually bad for housing costs (contributes to inflation) whilst not actually boosting housing supply. Policy has to change. Clearly the numbers are going in the wrong direction and that is a policy problem that needs changed policy. If you project out the continued outpacing of housing cost to income gap that grows each and every year, eventually all housing with be perpetually "rented" as no one will be able to ever pay off the loan through their entire wage earning lifetime, unless there is continued extensive inflation with associated wage growth. That isn't good for anyone.

Not to mention that housing is a stagnant & unproductive asset. Money could be better directed to support growing businesses or companies via the stock market to actually grow productive businesses that employ more people
@FelixRisingOriginal

@@Nikkska absolutely! Imagine if all that capital went into driving new businesses and growing existing in ones?! Like investing in stock markets, venture capital, or other investment vehicles that drive economy and employment, rather than inflating the living costs of Australians.

Mike Zorbas - I was very disappointed that he appeared to have little or no understanding of the pressures on the less fortunate members of our society and the need for low cost and social housing. In my opinion Mike was a supporter of the profit driven landlord and property developer. We need to bring back innovative Government Housing Authorities such as the South Australian Housing Trust. The housing crises of today commenced in the Howard Costello years of LNP government with generous tax breaks for Landlords.

The need to cut back on immigration big time, until we get this housing issue under control.
@Nikkska
@Nikkska 3 месяца назад
Yep, it’s only compounding the issue right now. Nothing against immigrants as Australia is a literal nation of immigrants, but if we can’t house the current residents, that’s a quick an easy way to alleviate some pressure
