#ajmusic #stevewright #bbc My composition for Steve Wright's closing theme "Starfield" which was heard daily on BBC Radio 2 in the United Kingdom. AJ - Anthony James, Composer.
Can’t stop thinking of him, so sad he’s no longer with us. The voice of my youth, throughout my teens on the daily bus journey home from school, all through my student days his show making a welcome break when studying and through all my jobs over decades. Such a kind person with great warmth and humour, we’ll never see his like again. Go well Steve, you’ll be long missed 💜
Thank you Steve for all the happy memories. Listened to you back in the 80s till present and loved your Steve Wright in the afternoon show it was brilliant. Im 62 now. You brought so much happiness to all your listeners. You were a true professional and will be so sadly missed by all your followers. RIP Steve. 20:19
I totally agree mate I’m 61 and listened to Steve wright since I was 18 in 1981 hrs irreplaceable and was so modest he never realised he had millions of fans and was a part of those fans lives for over 40 years
Feel like I've lost a close friend. Legend is a word that fits Wrighty perfectly - Legend of the airwaves 100%. God Bless you Steve. Rest in peace old friend 🧡
Yes rest in peace Steve. We have missed you from the afternoons and your show was the best on the Radio. Now the hope that one day you might return with your show somewhere is gone. These themes will be where we can return and remember all those fun afternoons. They in themselves are brilliant pieces of music and to open and close your show was an act of brilliance. We will never forget you, never.
Am sitting here in bed, with a terrible cold, having a horrible cry. So sad that Steve's gone yet Anthony's music says so much about Steve's character and his work.
This tune always plays in my head around 5pm Monday to Friday and brings a tear to my eyes everytime I hear it, Steve brightened up the afternoons with his mix of wit, charm, sheer professionalism, and a sense of fun, things just aren't the same anymore. Proud of yourself Auntie Beeb in a bid to get of him and resultant dying a few days later?
Such a shock to hear about our beloved Steve Wright's passing 💔 Have listened to him for over 4 decades. A kind, funny, likeable man - so talented. Such a loss for the world. An absolute legend 🎧📻🎤 Heartfelt thoughts to his family, friends and all fellow radio listeners. RIP Silly Boy Wrighty 🙏
This just makes me remember the good times. Steve you will be missed but the memories will remain. Just hope this theme doesn't disappear so that we can keep them going. RIP Steve
Afternoons not the same and did we realise how lucky we were to have this great talent. We do so now if not before. Come here for respite and remember how great you were Steve. Sanity in this crazy country today.
Right now this theme tune makes me feel very sad at the loss of Steve Wright, but his shows were all about being HAPPY and this is what his legacy is all about, enjoy life and try be happy ❤ R.I.P Steve.
I’m one of the BBC Radio 2 listeners from the US, and he was the reason why I got into the program and he is also the reason I tuned into Sunday Love songs. Thank you Wright-o for your humor, Wedding “Shoutouts”, and shooting the breeze.
A few short days ago Steve was doing his thing loud and proud ! Just so hard to believe we won’t be hearing his calm and cheerful voice anymore .I’m choked 😢
Always driving home from the Military base in the UK where I was serving, this music epitomised that Steve´s standards underlined why I was doing what I did. Professionalism, class - and freedom to express oneself AND Community. - He was a true professional at his skill of broadcasting. I was always driving home in hoots of laughter at Steve and his team of Janey, Tim and the Old Woman.....AND if one piece of music ever stands out way way ahead of the usual ´run of the mill´ radio themes. It is this one. Good on you Anthony James for bringing that extra shine to the legend , Steve Wright!
Love hearing this around 5 in the afternoon, the kind of tune that says "time to lock up and get home for the evening or go home for the weekend on Friday night".
This music has been going round constantly in my head for the last two days. The soft closer - Wow. Brings me almost to tears now. Who am I kidding? ALMOST??? Sleep well, Steve. And Anthony - Be proud of your magnificent work in helping to create a show which a) Sounded like no other b) Made it stand out head and shoulders over everything else on mainstream radio. 🙏
Shocked and then the tears came, listening to Vernon Kay and Jeremy Vine today made me cry even more, you could hear the broken hearts in them.. will miss you so much our dear friend, you were loved so much. Thank you for being my friend ❤❤❤
The music of many a workplace, Building sites could relax when the steve Wright theme came on...the back breaking morning work was out of the way , now we could have a laugh and a singalong ..Thankyou for getting me through a decade of sitework.
This piece of music will stay with me for a long long time... its brilliant thank you.. And also sorry, it was me that convinced him to play the old closer (Wichita Lineman) on his final afternoon show... he had been playing that for a long time before your great compositions.. Thank you though... its a universal trigger that its now 5 o clock.. you should be very proud that a 50 second track is as relied upon as the sound of Big Ben... Thank you
I'm gutted! Shouldn't have happened this way . I can't help thinking that if his afternoon show hadn't been taken off him he may have been at radio 2 when he became ill not at home alone so he could of been helped or even saved . I know that he always came in much earlier than his show started. We will never know now I suppose .
Now at 5 O' Clock Lenn Goodman remembers the radio shows of his childhood on our digital pop-up service BBC Radio 2 50s here on Radio 2 Simon Mayo of course presents All Request Friday. I will return on Sunday on Radio 2 at 9 am for love songs, have a great weekend, good evening.
Well, guess what, this very theme made a 'comeback' during the last 4 days of 'Steve Wright's Summer Nights' on Radio 2 between 7pm to 9pm UK Time (11:30pm to 1:30am Indian Standard time) ... one of the best pieces of music heard ever . Thanks for this beautiful theme, Anthony 😊😊
Thank you Helen Thomas (not) for denying 8 million people the last 18 months of Steve Wright in the Afternoon…..Smashie and Nicey have returned to Radio 2 big time 🎧🎤🎧🎤
@@captainmulroy365 It was to give the impression that it was a film type theme, but actually was created for The Steve Wright in the afternoon show on BBC.
So beautiful. Perfect name, too. I can see starry skies when i close my eyes. I’m listening from Bangkok, Thailand where it’s 6 hours ahead in time. Your music calms me into a peaceful sleep. Brilliant. Thank you.
