Crazy how you guys are so close to these characters. I grew up on the next generation that dropped in the early 2000s and it still blows my mind that this show is as continuous as it is. 40 years of programming. I started watching degrassi junior high recently
@@SCROOGYMONEY I have subscribed to your channel, I'm from England but based in Spain and I am a degrassi fan especially of your uncle Neil, apparently your uncle Neil visited the UK and loved it, are you based in Canada still or America?
rest in peace neil hope im 12 and i fell in love with wheels and it makes me cry to hear my new favorite actor and guy ever passed away in 2007 ill miss him 4ever
RIP neil hope, you were my favourite character from the beginning till the end. Its sad to see you die like this. You will always remain in my heart. RIP
This is really sad. Wheels was the most troubled character on the show and it seems that Neil's life mirrored that of his character. May you rest in heaven bro, you're like a childhood friend to me. (From a fan from France where the show was very popular too.)
Aw he was so cute as Wheels, it was his hair & glasses & the fact that he seemed very down to earth, I think that's what made the character attractive to me. I also liked his heavy Canadian accent. He had a sort of rustic charm to his character. Very sad how he passed, he seemed like a nice guy in real life. Very down to earth cause he didn't feel a need for the spotlight
R.I.P Neil hope. You were a good actor in Degrassi Junior high ,Degrassi High and KDS ..I hope you are ok now and you can ride where you want. Peace to your family !
What I find extremely strange and quite unfortunate is the fact that he had been dead for several years and no one knew, not even his family. How does someone's death go unnoticed for 5 years. It's not like he didn't have any family or friends. I think he was failed by a lot of people. In an article, it says "police say they will not comment on the circumstances behind Hope's death in November 2007". What's up with that?! He died alone in a boarding house. That sounds like he didn't have anybody. Also, they won't comment because they probably didn't have any ideas how he died.
YOu should place no blame on anyone since your information is based on supposition. Many things happen in families that cost them all their relationships and maybe Neil was one of those people. I have PTSD and the only way I could live my life happily was to remove my siblings from it. As far as anyone knows my grown son is my only family. I have beautiful friends, a career I am successful at and I am financially stable. I would have none of those things had I not removed myself from my tormentors and worked hard to overcome the things they did to me. Maybe Neil was not in a good place yet and stayed away. We will never know.
It's such a shame. I feel like it was necessary for there to be another season of Degrassi High before the movie. Maybe Neil would've matured more like he said, and maybe he still would be here today. RIP Neil Hope! xox
That's really a thrilling video tribute about Neil 20 years after, I've started to watch again the Degrassi junior high series without subtitles and I can't give it up. Unfortunately, Wheel's real story is something we wish that should never happened to anyone. Actually, Wheels (and in minority other parts of the cast) is a part of what makes me feel younger ! An unknown admirer from GREECE/SPAIN, Europe, Earth, Universe, GOD ! :)
Joey, Wheels &, Snake. The heart of the Degrassi series. It was nice for Stefan to hunt Neil down for an interview. I knew Neil was a very private person. Fun Fact: Neil Hope was one of the original cast members of the whole Degrassi franchise. He played Griff on "The Kids Of Degrassi Street." shorts.
So sad and tragic that for over 5 years nobody knew of his death. I understand his cause of death was from a heart attack. My spidey senses tell me there was a bit more going on, especially since he was only 35. RIP
He only had two years left with this interview. His death flying under the radar is even worse than Disney actor Bobby Driscoll, whose downward spiral ended in early 1968 in an abandoned building in NYC. With no ID, he was buried in Potters' Field with thousands of homeless and other unclaimed bodies. His death was unknown until his parents, desperate to reestablish contact with him owing to his father's terminal illness, hired a detective to find him. They only learned about his passing well in 1969, something like 18 months after he died. The nation did not find out until Disney promoted Peter Pan's new release in 1972, and the media started researching whatever happened to stories about the cast. But news of Neil Hope's sad ending was more than twice as long after the fact.
This guy seemed so cool and he had a lovely wife at 3 minutes who had nice red hair and he looked like his mother..I would never have thought that this guy was ill and that he had a hard life..
Quite a shame what happened. He had the chops to do crime scene type tv dramas. He would easily fit into a lot of different character roles as he plays out his emotions very effectively on camera. I actually feel convinced he's living through the scenes. Heard he flat out had no motivation to seek out acting gigs thereafter. Acting is, after all, a cruel world where even Academy award winning members still have to audition and get turned down for roles. It's brutal but you can't give up.
Wheels was such a nice guy in the first 2 seasons of degrassi junior high. All that changed when his parents were killed. Acording to Neil hope this interview his carcater was very angry and upset. after his behavour went out of control people like joey snake and his grandparents lost sympanthy for him.
+stephen oakleaf presumably that was done to fill the void when the character of Rick was written out at the end of season 2 of DJH, in the first two seasons Rick was like what Wheels would become.
I bet he visited America though for vacations and stuff , he lived about a mile away from Detroit in Windsor , they say Neil was a really nice person as well
ellzedd41 Oh yes i know he lived in Hamilton , I read quite a bit about him, I just think he would have done well in America as an actor, he was truly talented
Well i heard he was nice , im from England but love Degrassi, can i ask you a question? Have you ever been the states? Why is it that a lot of Americans wont go to Canada but most Canadians have been the States?I think Neil Hope went to the USA for Degrassi Talks i think
The woman at 3 minutes was his former girlfriend/fiancee. She writes about their time together in a site Just a Girl Geek the Neil I Knew. A number of the pictures are from her.
Just came across this sad news to hear this young man passed at such a young age.. I use to watch Degrassi Jr High remembered him well I actually had a friend through my high school years that looked very much like Neil even the glasses he worn, does anyone know how he had passed away?
How did not any of his cast mates or people who ran the show not know he was in a dark place when he died? Ridiculous that he died alone like that dead for 5 years and nobody knew pathetic
A lot of Degrassi actors could not get regular acting gigs after the show ended and considering 10 years on a cbc show pays way less than an American show where you might have $ in the bank after it ends; you have to get a regular job; Neils problem was he could never get regular acting gigs to live off of and than sent him in to alcohol and depression and his demise
