That was a beautiful tribute. Especially at the end for Matthew - he was such a presence in the lives of Friends fans, he was in our homes every week for 10 years and even to this day through re-runs. It's a tangible loss many still feel.
RIP to the legends like Matthew Perry,Suzanne Somers,Norman Leer,Twitch,Angus Cloud,Bob Barker,Lisa Marie Presley,Jimmy Buffet,Cindy williams and the many many others. They will be missed by everyone and beloved for the next 50 years
I wish they hadn't missed Richard Moll. But it was so creative to weave the "Friends" theme in at the end. Matthew, we won't forget you or the many other talents we lost. ❤
The tribute almost seemed to highlight Matty. His picture is so different to the other more formal photos. As a Friends forever fan, it was touching to see.
I find it a tad disrespectful that people always feel the need to clap or cheer In the middle of these memoriam tributes when they recognize or like someone that’s on there. It makes it weird for others that get no applause or cheers during it. People should just wait till the end to applaud for everyone
And how you must feel if some receive applause, “this one, what a loss”, but when the image of your loved one appears, all are ‘respectfully silent’, “this one, who is this one?”
People could think having the friends theme for Matthew was not nice to other people as they didn’t get a song, but I think it was very nice to have that for Matthew because of who he was and he deserved it. And it was good they saved him for the last ❤❤
First time I saw this. The arrangement. The voices. This duo. Perfect recipe for the perfect storm to form in my tearducts. Couldnt stop. Absolutely perfect and beautiful. RIP Andre Braugher, Matthew Perry, all of them.
This was just flawlessly beautiful 😍 thank you for recognizing and cherishing these amazing performers 🥺🤍🤍🥺 what a gift 🎁 to the crazy world 🌎🌍 we live in
Everytime I listen to ill see you again I keep thinking it will turn into ill be there for you that was such a good transition thank you for all the laughter ❤
I can't believe the Emmys didn't include Mark Goddard from Lost In Space and other shows who died October 10, 2023. There are others too who were forgotten. He needs to be given credit.
I always think it’s sad that the people in front of the camera get such applause while the people behind the camera get virtually no recognition. So sad for their families.
When I saw Jules Bass my heart skipped a beat. I remember his name in the credits from all the Christmas TV specials I watched as a kid. Rudolph, Frosty...
" I think the saddest people always try their hardest to make people happy. Because they know what it's like to feel worthless, and they don't want anyone else to feel like that " - Robin Williams I dont know if anyone feels the same way, but some people like Matthew Perry and Twitch hurt me so much. Whenever I watched Ellen with my mom, Twitch was always the most genuine, charismatic, and brought all of the energy to the room. You always saw a smile on his face so it hurts to see someone so young go so soon. Him, Matthew, and a lot of other people had so much left to do. Rest in peace
So many actors that played iconic roles in all time popular shows died last year. Matthew Perry, lance reddick, Angela Lansbury, Kirstie alley, Suzanne somers, mark Margolis, Richard belzer, Andre braugher, others I probably left off. And then pioneers of tv like Norman Lear, Bob barker and Barbara Walters too.
There is so much good to say about this tribute. 1. I am not a music fan and not familiar with the singers, but what a wonderful job they did. Beautiful. 2. The academy appeared to have really put the effort in to make sure everyone was included. (no mention of the horrible Oscar tribute here, oh, there I mentioned it.) 3. I'm just gonna say 2 words and you will understand. Goodbye Matthew. The friends theme is where I broke. But, If I may, another thought. While I think MP's death has really affected me, there were some other wonderful people on there, including Lance Reddick one of my faves.
Kirstie Alley... such a dynamo. The scene of her having fun with her little baby dancing in the kitchen in Look Who's Talking comes to mind. Of course, Cheers. So full of life. Amd Treat Williams? I cant get this death thing.
Omg this has me in tears we have lost some amazing talent this year 😭 what a beautiful tribute though ❤ also the music is stunning what a beautiful rendition
Celebrities I know are: 3:03 Angela Lansbury (Eleanor Shaw Iselin in The Manchurian Candidate, Em in The Harvey Girls) 3:50 Lance Reddick (Gullermin in Godzilla vs. Kong) Especially 4:56 Bob Barker (The Price Is Right, Truth or Consequences) 5:00 Paul Reubens (Pee-Wee Herman) 5:10 Kirstie Alley (Match Game & Password Plus contestant) 5:13 André Braugher (Captain Holt in Brooklyn Nine-Nine) 5:45 Alan Arkin (Bill Boggs in Edward Scissorhands) Missing are Dark Shadows icon Lara Parker and DC Animated Universe voice actors Richard Moll & Arleen Sorkin I went into a case of severe depression when I heard the news when Bob Barker passed away. I was really hoping he’d live to 100. #ripbobbarker 😭
This year it was tough. I worked at The Price Is Right during Bob Barker's final season and even at his final taping as a CBS Page, always giving him gifts from the audience during tape stops. I also Paged at The Cool Kids and was in craft service once with Leslie Jordan, but being respectable, I just let him do his thing and wasn't a fan boy. I never watched his work before until I saw The Cool Kids and he was so funny! So I can say I was feet away from these two celebs at different points of my career in Hollywood. Andre Braugher I worked with once in a scene on Men Of A Certain Age and he seemed nice. So three of the ones who passed I worked alongside.
Those are some pretty big misses. Some of these don't exactly scream TV to me, but others do. I wonder who.how it is decided which people are included in the In Memorium tributes?
This Wikipedia article discusses the selection process: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_memoriam_segment#:~:text=their%20official%20website.-,Selection%20process,of%20making%20the%20final%20decision.
Don’t understand why there has to be a live music act for this …. It distracts from the actual tribute slides, and more people could be recognized in the same amount of time
I need Charlie to record this version of the friends theme song. Watched it more than ten times now and makes me cry harder every time. Also sometimes makes me think about how not missed I would be if my life ended.
I sang See you again for my cousin Brian Holland🙏 May he rest, it was such a privilege and such a beautiful song to sing in the church❤️ this was a very moving tribute
Matty was a true zombie at the "Reunion", his beautiful blue eyes EMPTY, had a hard work to speak, it was heartbreaking to watch... I remembered said myself coz i'm a real addict too but i don't have his money, "this man is going to die, he needs HELP RIGHT NOW." Except Jen who loved him so much and they are the 2 youngest in the pack, it's SAAAADDDD to be known all over the world, i'm french, for a show named "FRIENDS" and have just "assistants" and "Doctors" who didn't care about Matthew but not his bank account and his lonelyness in this jacuzzi. I'm happy Matthew Perry is gone, coz he suffered in his soul, in his body during 40 yrs at least. And i thank HIM SO MUCHfor his complete honesty about drugs and alcoohol Too bad the more human from his 5 NON FRIENDS (except Jen)was dead first....
Was hurt to see so many figures I grew up now being shown in this tribute, especially Bob Barker. Reminded me of all the mornings I would try and fake being sick so I could stay home and watch The Price is Right until I could watch them in the summer. Never got the chance to go to the show during his run, but we all enjoyed the show anytime Bob was there. R.I.P. to all those we've lost in this video. And in the immortal words of Bob himself... "Help control the pet population, have your pets spayed or neutered. Goodbye everybody!"
Holy crap, there are so many I didn't know about: David Jacobs, Angela Landsbury, Twitch (when did that happen!?!?!), Richard Belzer, Tommy Smothers...all people that I didn't know we lost this past year.
I heard an interview with Sally not long ago and she said for whatever reason Rob had started acting cold toward her when they'd see each other, no reason given. Seeing them like this at the show, it seems to continue...
I cried so many that we lost in 2022 in 2023 😢 in 2022 I lost eight members of my family including my great uncle and my grandma. My grandma just like literally said goodbye to her brother in April 25th 2022 and then around August 1st we found out she had stage 4 cancer and she passed away in October 6th in 2022 it's been hard on my family especially my mom
I understand and also feel sad for those entertainers we lose but I also feel sad for the people we lose daily that have impacted many in their lifetime and aren't celebrated as equally as the stars we remember. To die without anyone to pass on your story sounds so lonely.
