You don’t understand, the mongols in that battle had a general who was weakened, and was fighting in another war, whilst the entire empire was already on the brink of a civil war, if the mamluks had faced the actual thing they’d be brutally sacked

Hülagü returned mongolia for his older brother Möngke Khan's death and he let one of his footsoldiers Cebe Noyan conquer egypt but he failed. Cebe Noyan had an army that was a small part of the Hülagü's army which Hülagü's army was a part of the entire mongol army mostly controlled by eastern Khan Möngke. Only Golden Horde's great khan Turkicized Batu Khan was able to defeat Hülagü. Never underestimate mongol empire. Let alone Kubilai Khan, Ögedai Khan, Subutay Noyan and Genghis Khan who conquered most of the territories.
