The signing of the Anglo-Irish treaty on 6 December 1921 ended British rule in most of Ireland.
In 1922 the Irish Free State was established and with it the formation of the National Army.
Over the next 100 years, thousands of Irish men and women have served the state both at home and on overseas deployment as members of Óglaigh na hÉireann.
