Hey bro, I have been writing songs for a while but only now getting into recording and producing. I really like the sound you're getting, the intimate kind of sound. Was wondering how do you mix the guitars and vocals? Would appreciate if u could shortly explain. Great song. Thanks!
I always double my guitar and vocal tracks. I usually pan the guitars about 40% out of 63% on each side (in logic terms idk about other DAWS). Vocals are usually panned around 15 to 30 depending on what sounds best for the song (the harder the pan, the more “intimate” it gets). I use the stock logic compressors on the guitars same with the vocals (moderate to heavy comp). I’ll also use the J37 tape emulator (or any tape emulator) to add more compression and some reverb on the vocals, as well as a subtle “glue” on the master. Tbh it’s just a lot of trial and error, I’ve been recording my songs since I started writing them around 8 years ago and my recordings STILL aren’t technically good at all. Just mess around with everything that’s at your expense and see what you can come up with. Have fun recording!
OH AND DONT FORGET EQ!!! COMPRESS FIRST THEN EQ!!! That’s very important and something I wish I knew in the beginning. Could’ve saved me many many rages lol.
