Amidst a bout of unemployment, a group of friends seeks a quick fix by joining the Army Reserves, hoping for adventure and an easy paycheck. However, their expectations clash with the harsh reality of military life as they find themselves thrust into a whirlwind of training mishaps and unexpected challenges. Assigned to an unconventional unit, they stumble through hilarious misadventures while attempting to navigate the rigors of military discipline. Anyone else notice during the barbershop scene and at 24:52 the sound goes silent? Not sure if it does it again after this part in the duration of the movie bc it kinda takes away from this classic man.

I use to watch this movie religiously on HBO in 1994 1995 when I was 9-10 years with my older brother. This was on of my favorite movies then and still is nowadays.

The reason the sound goes out everytime music plays is because of copyright issues, I’ve seen this movie a million times and I know when the scenes with music shows up and that’s when the sound goes off .. That’s the reason

I've walked under that sign at Ft. Sill. That's where I did Basic and AIT for 13M. I also threw a live grenade from the same bunker they used in the movie during grenade qual. At least that's what DS Hargus told us.

Cool to see that the Basic training scenes were all filmed at Ft. Sill. I was there in 1990. Barracks exactly the same, cattle trucks, and even the unit patches on the DS's are exactly the same as when i went through there.

Haha....cool. I took my US Army Basic Training at Fort Sill, Ok in 1979. I remember the reception area where the sign said " Soldiering Starts Here ". I don't remember the barber shop being there though. They transported us in those Cattle Cars as we called them. The Drill Sergeants would pack us in like sardines and say " Get in there Private, make your buddy smile ". The cattle car dropped them in what we called the 6000 area. Those were not open bay buildings there. they were permanent party units with 3 man rooms. Our unit used that area because it was all that was available. No open bay barracks for me haha.

I was a DI at Fort Sill when they filmed it. Several of us tried out for a part. The only ones that got a part were nothing but stat men and cheese eaters.

One thing they got wrong was that they would not have graduated Army Basic with One stripe. One stripe in the Army is a Private E-2. They would still be Private E-1 which is no stripe on the sleeve. We used to call that a PNC, Private No Class.

What’s happening with the sound is it’s cutting out during songs with copyright like “get a haircut and get a real job” during the haircut scene and in other spots in the movie. I noticed this because I’m watching the DVD right now.

Don't know why a fictional movie would. I did 3 years active duty. Should've went reserve or national guard. But I was looking for payment and to get out of the state I was in and out of my mom's house. I would recommend 2-3 years in the Army, or in Coast Guard as police, Chaplin assistant, maybe water purification.. there's a handful of somewhat decent jobs. If I could go back I would try being a Chaplin assistant..
