if and when he gets back to earth he can report the company for using and supplying an outlawed drug to its workers showing little regard to their well being. but first he needs to live long enough to get back to earth and tell someone.

I actually thought there would be a bigger intrigue. That the whole station is some kind of automatic cloning facility like in the movie Moon (2009) where people expire after 10 months and get replaced while all their memories are just drug infused hallucinations like that his familly wasn't real

It's a slow burn film for sure... but I think it's one of the best of its kind.

Interesting fact - many fans claim that Outland exists in same universe as Alien (maybe not in same time, however). There is really a lot of aestetics similarities (even more after Alien Isolation) and movie directors never dismissed such claims. Not confirmed either.

I can help you here. Gunpowder creates oxygen and everything else require for combustion. You can fire a gun in space and underwater.
