Irving Mills and His Orchestra! Well here is a wonderful record that took quite a tad of cleaning, but is to me just too great to skip uploading, I have only a guess who the vocal is by, as I have very little information to go by! I truly hope You will enjoy this little gem!

And thank you and the other channels for uploading these lost gems . The music from this time is happy up beat . As far as a modern band Greta Van Fleet as positive songs excellent rock band with a 70s sound

Splendid. I can see my grandparents as teenagers listening to this on the radio WWJ in Detroit they would have been 14 years old .

Vocal refrain by Irving Kaufman (in "crooner mode"). Also released on Cameo 9182 and Lincoln 3209.

I liked your crooner comment! Made me realize this whole arrangement sounds like one perfectly suited for Rudy Vallee's orchestra

Irving Kaufman had the remarkable talent to sing in many styles well. He also sang under many "fake" or "throw away" names do to side jobs while under various contracts. This includes some "dime store" labels whose records ---no matter the actual performers---- used house names. Example, "Edison Male Trio" He's famous for anecdote quote reportedly saying: "I don't care what name is on the record, as long as MY NAME is on the check!"

Kaufman was allowed to freelance for many record labels in the 1920's and early '30s, so long as he didn't use his own name. Hence, the many aliases on those labels.

The orchestra, tune and vocalist are superb. The surface noise is minimal and the clarity of this early electrical recording is quite nice.

A fabulous performance! For Romeo 984, waxed c. April 6, 1929, Rust states the title of the song actually is "I Used To Love Her in the Moonlight (But She's in the Limelight Now)", also issued on Pathé 36974, Perfect 15155, Cameo 9182 and Lincoln 3209. For this side, he is crediting Billy Murray and Walter van Brunt aka Scanlan at the same time! Of course that makes no sense. Billy Murray definitely has another voice timbre than what we are hearing, but van Brunt/Scanlan is a serious contender. Hence my vote would go to the latter.

Thanks so much! Boy if you are confused about the vocalist on this, You have it correct, Rust has this totally wrong, "I Used To Love Her In The Moonlight" is a totally different record all together, and is vocaled by Scanlen and Murray duet! I have it, very interesting how this could have happened! Atticus has it here on RU-vid, it is one I hope you will check out, I LOVE the record! I always LOVE to hear from you, and your wonderful replies make my day much brighter!

For the record Rust list, go and look up "I Used To Love Her In The Moonlight" by Mills Musical Clowns, posted by the wonderful Atticus Jazz channel! Let me know what you think about this haunting and beautiful record!!

@@bobbyroy84 Thank you so much for dissipating the fog! I was seriously puzzled about those weird credits. I checked out Atticus' posting and you are right. Nothing to do at all with this song. I can't believe an eminent discographer like Rust got so distressingly messed up regarding this side. Thank you so much as well for your praise and kindest words about my comments! My pleasure, it is always a joy to share background information about your wonderful recordings and uploads :-)
