This production is the story of one devastating hurricane--Gilbert--particularly as it affected Jamaica. But it is also the story of all hurricanes and what can be done to prepare for them. For those in the path of a hurricane, preparedness is the best means of mitigating its effects.

I remember this we had a concrete roof many ppl came to our house for shelter .. corn beef and mackerel was what we all ate . I’m glad we helped everyone in our community. My bed held a lot of kids I slept in the floor with other kids . The rest of the community slept in the living room my grandmother and I really helped a lot of ppl . I’m glad we did it .

School was reopening that day,(wanted to go because...) I didnt know what a hurricane was and was excited to see what everyone was talking about (the 1951 Storm), and ooh boy i'll never forget that day and the days after that. the landscape changed, everything changed, my family and i made it out ok, no damages, God was on our side.

this is pretty good video footage for 1988, considering the tech we have now there aren't many well documented footage from more recent hurricanes apart from katrina. I hope hurricane Matthew isn't as bad as this for Jamaica and Haiti :(

Yes, it was a direct hit to Jamaica. The country was much poorer then and less knowledgeable about how to prepare for such a strong storm. It's hard for any country to take a direct hit and not suffer devastation. All these years later I'm sure that Jamaica has learned many valuable lessons and is much more prepared for the next one. God bless the land of wood and water.

wow...this takes me right back. we lived in south ave, kingston that time. this was th scariest thing my family and i have ever seen/experienced. the hurricane and the devastating aftermath.

This hurricane almost destroyed my house. Some trees fell on top the roof and caused damage.

People live with a Heart of Stone, invite Estruction inna dem Life. Look how them like to Mob and Chop Up People. Look how the Police like to Gunned Down those who they Suspect of being involed in Criminal Activities even when they are Unharmed, and then they get the Support if the Public, if you Live without Humane Feeling, you will always get Hurricane and other Natural Disasters
