Int. "Concept Room" with stylists working on drawings of cars. Model makers looking at scale model of new car (as seen being photographed in reel one). Quarter scale model being made in clay. A full scale mock up is being made in wood. A model passenger is sitting in the drivers seat. A woman sits in another prototype to make sure her nylons are not laddered or her skirt caught in the door. She holds the steering wheel to show the fascia panel. Colour is perfected on another full scale model using lacquer paper held against the panels. Top shot of large engineering drawing office. A draftsman take a piece of paper to the engineering workshop. Engineer is working on the new 7 bearing crankshaft. CU of roller tappets and WS of Engine exposed and being hand cranked. A prototype is driven out of the factory and along a leafy country road. It drives across a forge and onto a test track. The prototype is driven through more water, over uneven surfaces, switch back humps, and up and down steep gradients.
Int. Quality control laboratory, men in white lab coats stuff, steel and alloy scrapings are analysed. Projection microscopes check the physical structure. A cabinet of virulent moulds grown in tropical conditions are used for testing fabrics and upholstery. Heat is applied to rubber. A Fatigue tester stresses a torsion bar until it snaps. WS of cars driven in a kind of treadmill testing strain. A camshaft is tested for hardness, and a loaded hammer is swung down onto a thin billet of metal and broken. Lots of dials as a tensile test stretches and breaks metal. Gear wheels are grind on another large machine, and a row of women workers rub each gear with a stone. More tests on gears, they are measured, paired, run, and listened to for any sounds of disharmony. Large complicated machines test the finished gear box.

Chris I agree completely , I first rode in a p5 in 1975 , I was 5 years old and 47 years later I can still remember it , wished I’d have been born earlier and could have bought one new! Def one of Great Britain,s best cars

Sadly the 1970s came and this all went out the window. Steady dimise. They still had some moments of great products during and after the 70s, SD1 and the 75 spring to mind. Poor management and disgruntled workers led to the death in the end.

@@jojojojo4332 agree but you can't deny the striking workers, poor management decisions and shoddy build during the 70s were to blame as well. The products became tarnished and buyers went elsewhere.

Surveys in recent years show Land Rover and Jaguar to be the least reliable makes. The Japanese cars, even those made in Britain, are the most reliable, due to quality control, Japanese middle management (in England) and new factories set up in areas without a car-making tradition. JLR is Indian-owned but still has British managers.

The reason is simple....Ford owns them. Interesting to see that since Ford took over that Ford designs have become very Rover -looking and reliable and the Rover branded vehicles have become unreliable......funny how that works isn't it. I predict the Rover name will disappear and everything will be Ford, and reliable. "How to get Rid of Your Competition and Own The World and have your previous competitors pay for it." Simple plan but very clever.

????? Have you fallen through a time warp? Rover ceased to exist 15 years ago and Ford got rid of Jaguar 12 years ago.

Fabulously primitive testing instrumentation. Women clean each wheel. Just women btw. Then they listen. 😂. Nothing like this today. Divine.

Rovers error was to sucked into the BL catastrophe. They were spat out finally in the demise of the Phoenix group. Who has the Rover name now ! China. The name can’t be used because of that hard V. 😂 Roway lol. Vale British motor industry.
