I am very impressed with the integrity of the Patterson family, I had never heard of this man until I came across this documentary. It is a sad fact that the fight against greed and corruption is still ongoing .
Tom I want to say thanks for the interviews, can't really tell you why I'm interested in common people but I like hearing what they have to say. Also I loved your human kindness to this lady God bless her.
Oh yes, there is! Ken Davis has been DA for over 30 years! Crooked governor Wallace appoited Davis in the late 1970s. The evil corruption has never left phenix city. They falsely accuse people and put them in jail and not let them. He refuses to prosecute people who need to be prosecuted and the employees like the city clerk who is married to one of the phenix city police officers do evil deeds to people all the time. They refuse to let people file assault charges against their attacker. They go on witch hunts all the time in phenix city to get people they don't like! and ruin their life! The police lie like dogs they defend your neighbors who are harassing them. And help them get revenge if you called the police to their party friends throwing beer cans and parking all over your yard. The EVIL is still here!
The police harass people who film them. They kicked out a couple of guys who were filming inside the police station. The police are doing bad things. Not letting victims get justice not letting them to file charges against their attackers. The black police officers are prejudiced. It's not right how they treat people!
@@jasoncreech4486 As long ken davis remains DA. injustices will continue. He wouldn't prosecute this city councilman for tax fraud or something. He was accused of jury tampering and even having his own kids try to run to the city council to keep his seat. But ken davis said its time to stop spending $20,000 of the taxpayer money in prosecuting an aging councilman. But he sure don't mind going after innocent people!
I am reminded of an ancient Chinese curse: "May you lead an interesting life." He definitely lead an interesting life but at what cost? I admire cleaning up Phenix City but in his appeal to our most vicious side, the side that controls hate and anger, he was a pitiful figure. They said he didn't have anything against black people personally but actions speak louder than words. I found this video fascinating because I was alive in the '50s (although I was just a kid) and I sold newspapers on the street corners. So I had seen the pictures of black people hung from trees, mutilated and killed and my young mind was appalled at what I saw. But this is the first time I've seen a video on these days from an Alabama white man's position. I don't see how he could have been a bigot and still supported Kennedy? I believe Alabama and Mississippi are still the poorest states in the union. Racism is rampant in the US now, just as it was then. So what has changed after all this? Skin color is totally dependent on how close your ancestors lived to the Equator. As you move away from the Equator skin color lightens because the UV rays are weaker. So wherever you are in the black to white skin tones line is totally because of the sun. Skin tone has nothing to do with character, physical attributes or mental differences.
I learned that Albert Patterson was a member of the defense team that got Hoyt and Grady Shepherd and Jimmie Matthews acquitted of the murder of Fate Leebern, their rival from Columbus, GA, before he decided to run for Attorney General. I think that should have been mentioned in this documentary. The defense attacked the character of the prosecution’s key witness, a 19 year old girl named Jeannette Mercer, who was working as a hostess at the establishment where the murder occurred. I don’t know if he took on the case because he could have used the money, or if he just firmly believed that everyone, no matter how despicable, deserves a defense, but I’m glad he ended up joining up with Hugh Bentley and his group to clean up the city. I obviously wish it would not have cost him his life and Hugh Bentley’s family would not have had to go through a bombing of their home.
It was interesting to hear the true story of how corruption in Phebix City was destroyed by those who were part of the struggle. It compliments the movie that was made about it in the 1950s.
If the devil was all lies. Why would you start believeing in him. Him, her she or it. Are you talking from a religeouse point of view and there for your devil is just your story book devil with out acknowledging that the modern era devils are far more important and real than story book philosphosical Devils. In the modern era the devil usually has a name. So if Al capone was a Chicago Devil then his name is used and not just insaane continuouse repetitive references to 'The Devil'.
We love Trump because he is no nonsense guy. It has nothing to do with color. But I can tell you the black folk in North Alabama like him. The black folk in S. Alabama have taken down their Biden signs. They're sick of his sh#t.
The black people were treated really bad back in the 50s and 60s. For no reason. Then later they started getting a little braver. 2 blk males walked in a convenience store where my sisterinlaw worked, robbed her and shot her in the head. Her baby had turned one yr old the same day. She was a single parent at 18.
It look as though all these good white people I would say they came from Yorkshire England some white people from that part of the UK sympathise with black people's in the way we're treated by there country man in the 50 and 60s and unword.
