The plot reminds me of Another. Basically instead of a king there is a curse. Instead of disappearing, students were murdered in a sort of accident like Final Destination. The culprit is an extra person who was dead but revived. The culprit does not have any idea that it was dead and living as normal. Only way to break the curse is to identify the dead one and sent it back to the other world.

Ah I watched Another already, though the anime version... all with that umbrella + stairs. Actually King's Game manga and anime version is much more brutal than this live action. The punishment not just making them disappear... since it's too merciful and painless.

To be honest I think that Chiemi is kind of a jerk. If she had killed herself or let Nobuaki kill her, it would be less suffering then what she will have to go through. Really a story of stubbornness and sacrifice.

Indeed. Literally a side character sacrificed himself even though he could have killed his crush's 'murderer'. She is the dumbest protagonist I've ever seen in a movie, Anime or TV series yet.
