When you think about it, Popy was just a young girl trying to grieve her mother while her crapy father was trying to replace his wife and play "happy family". What she really needed was to feel safe, loved and supported by her father. Not some random woman invading her space and trying to replace someone irreplaceable for her. Popy should have been his priority from the start. Instead, he did nothing to help her and just dumped her in a boarding school when he got tired of the mess he caused. When, after a traumatic experience, people start acting like she did at the beginning of the movie, it's often a cry for help. She started getting better because she was in a better environment. No more toxic friends, no more crapy father and no more f*ing girlfriend to trigger her trauma. Instead, she had a structure and routine to help her get better habits, friends to love and support her and the head mistress who was strict but fair with her.

I swear Emma Roberts has a special talent in playing spoiled kids in movies and tv shows

As an English guy, I actually watched this twice. It's genuinely good and you actually do feel for them all. I'd for sure recommend it to anyone! Fantastically acted all the way through, and it was nice to see how my home country is being represented.

Fun fact : In the scene when Harriet tries shake her hand with Poppy and Poppy refuses , the chicken Harriet was carrying, accidentally slaps Poppy in the face when Harriet turns around. That scene was hilarious!

So to teach his spoiled daughter a lesson about the real world he sends her to a boarding school?

I thought this was going to be some shitty teenage school drama, but the teachers and principal is supportive and this is very nicely done. I probably would recommend this movie.

Boarding school is abuse, no other thing. If someone struggles to raise a child they are the failure, not the child. Give a child a hobby, let them be themselves.

As with many teen comedies, much similarly obvious creative age casting continues in that scene and throughout, but it looks like a fun movie all the same!
