Rowan, what is your view of Slavoj Zizek’s interpretation of the _Book of Job?_ According to Zizek, _”contrary to the usual notion of Job, he is NOT a patient sufferer, enduring his ordeal with the firm faith in God.”_ Job’s complaints/rebukes trigger God’s explosion (J 40:2 NKJV) which is shortly followed by His agreement with those rebukes (J 42:7). Doesn’t this contradiction reveal something else? A certain solidarity in moments of impotence-a closeness only available at a distance.. Zizek, _The Act and Its Vicissitudes:_ _”[W]hat we get is neither the good God letting Job know that his suffering is just an ordeal destined to test his faith, nor a dark God beyond Law, the God of pure caprice, but rather a God who acts as someone caught in the moment of impotence, weakness at least, and tries to escape his predicament by empty boasting.”_
Thank you for inspiring us to HOPE; Trust and have Faith. In spirit we are in tune with love itself, as grace encompasses our being in stillness. Thank you Rowen Williams , the church lives as a community.
I missed the first half hour as I was directed from Facebook to a scam subscription site. I had signed up before realising what I was doing, then had to cancel by phone to USA
