Join Aussie Jetsetter for a historic inaugural flight review as he journeys from Perth to Singapore on the first ever direct Jetstar Airbus A321neo flight which is the first of three new routes launched by the Aussie budget carrier into South East Asia from Perth!
In this review I cover the formalities of the inaugural flight as well as showcasing what you can expect on a medium haul international flight on Jetstar's latest and most modern aircraft especially so what the experience is like flying for 5 hours overnight!
In addition I will also check out the Aspire Lounge at Perth Airport and offer my thoughts on the overall value prospect of flying Jetstar on this hugely popular route which is now serviced direct by four airlines.

Nice thanks for watching. I Remember flying Jetstar Perth to Singapore via Bali I think it was around 2013 or 2014. According to my research Jetstar Asia did operate the route around about that time with A320s. Going way back to the 2000s ValuAir used to fly the route as well which I believe was taken over by Jetstar Asia!

Love the video had to mention though for those on the A321neo in rows 1, 29 you’ll find your charging ports at the bottom of your seat at the front. Crew tip for ya

1 hr & 30 minutes( so far) sitting on our ✈️ plane at terminal 2 Because staff they can't count ! Hughly trained. 😅

The A321neo planes are awful for anyone above about 5'10". No adjustable headrest on an overnight long-haul flight left me in a world of pain for days afterwards.

Thanks for watching. Sorry to hear you were in pain for days after not a great way to start or end a trip :( Yes you are right about no adjustable headrest. Also the seat itself is very hard with not much padding. That being said considering how cheap the price was (base fare $130) i find it hard to complain considering SQ and Qantas were probably 3- 4 times that price!

I agree, red-eye flights would be quite awful on this aircraft… can’t believe there is no usb charging, considering they said when They will be doing a cabin renewal on other Jetstar aircraft there would be usb charging ports for all passengers. Not the case for everyone here in an exit row seat . I can only conclude that within Jetstar, the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing. 😂

I believe it is on the same aircraft mate. The A320 probably wouldn't reach much further than KL with a proper passenger load and I don't think Jetstar have any intention of bringing the Dreamliner to Perth when the A321 neo can now cover pretty well all of its new target market in SEA!

Shame about the lack of celebration for an inaugural flight, but I guess Jetstar Asia previously did this route for a little while so it's like a restart of route for Jetstar as a whole. Nonetheless a fantastic review on the A321neo on Jetstar!😀 - Hope you enjoy Singapore too!

Thanks for tuning in again mate. Yes it's pretty fair to allow Qantas to claim the title of Perth as its new western gateway to the world with its trio of direct European flights now (London, Rome and Paris). Hopefully when they move to Airport central Perth will finally see a proper international route map by Qantas with many more Asia destinations similar to the East Coast capitals - Maybe even with Project Sunrise maybe we could sneak in a Perth to LA direct too 5-10 years down the road! But exciting with this new Jetstar base in Perth. Really keen to try their direct flight to Phuket it been quite some time since I've last been there!

I was hoping this A321 NEO would have at least 4 rows of premium seats, which would be helpful on these red eye flights , as it looks like this will be the schedule for JQ both ways . Same goes for the BKK &. HKT flights.

Thanks for watching Paul. Yep good point there. Far as I’m aware the return flight from Singapore is a morning service leaving around 7 and arriving into Perth around lunchtime. The Phuket service leaves Perth mid morning and then returns from Phuket late afternoon so May not be as much an issue. I think the Bangkok flight is an overnight back to Perth so that could be a concern though!

Ripper review mate and thanks for the effort I am also based n Perth .Give me a pm or email for a ctach up .One take away was the F/os name Hollyman check out that name in oz Aviation history The game changer may be wondering how many seats it will take from QANTAS per to Sing ? Was recently on the sam ehull on another flight and the leap engines are SO quiet and the recaro seats are a winner (IMO) Re you tip on the bundle agrre inspades and will give scoot a REAL run for the money . Bit cranky though over howQFF have nibbled away some of the points . Obviously you and I read the fine print :) look forward to a meet up if possible The Perth BKKK run I may take just for interest than grab EVA air out of BKK to the EU cheers keep em coming

Thanks Phill. Thrilled you enjoyed it mate. Yeah it will be interesting to see what impact it has if at all on Qantas's Singapore service. I'd say probably not too much considering Singapore Airlines I think have just relaunched a 4th daily flight. With Scoot sometimes operating twice daily and plenty of Air Asia flights to KL attracting much of the same market I think Jetstar are going be way more interested in getting the leisure market whom many are continuing on to holiday destinations in SEA (served by its Singaporean sister Jetstar Asia). Certainly a step forward in in the aircraft experience with the A321neo overall - great mood lighting and a fresh modern aesthetic. If I were to play devils advocate I might say the raw a320 seat is slightly more padded and comfortable itself but of course the Recaro design on the a321 neo is more ergonomic and slimline making for more apparent space which is a good feature for budget carriers whom are trying to cram those seats in. Legroom certainly wasn't an issue with my seat on this flight though! Ironic you mention EVA I reviewed them on a flight from Bangkok to Taipei last year (which originated in Vienna) which was a supurb experience and would highly recommend! Pretty busy at the moment in the short term but maybe could do a catch up later in the year!

I know this is unrelated, but United Airlines recently announced that they have big plans for Tokyo by basing 737s at NRT, i'd love to see United flying a 738 between NRT and PER.

That would be great to see a United Fifth freedom flight to Perth! If they were to do it via Japan would make a huge amount of sense! I know Virgin fly the 737 max from Cairns to Tokyo from Perth would be too much of a stretch I would think though!

Great review man! Sad there wasn’t much of a set up at the boarding gate in PER. Heck, even Rex had a better set up out of Hobart. Seems like more airlines are cashing in on the budget experience to SEA, given that these routes were traditionally operated by the usual suspects (SQ, MH, TG etc) but now with the advent of Batik, AK and now JQ, who knows what we’ll be looking at in the future! It’s certainly changed the way we fly to SEA and beyond. Time will tell if it’s for better, or worse. Fantastic review though, I like the detail orientation. Looking forward to seeing more epic content as always! Best, Nilesh

Always great to hear from one of my favourite fellow travel RU-vidrs :) yeah a bit disappointing for an inaugural certainly quite low key compared to the flight to Broome but the experience I got for $240 and with all the legroom and the bells and whistles I thought was a pretty good deal! A321 Neo Defs a step up than the regular a320. Hopefully Jetstar start up more routes with it from Perth. I have heard on the grapevine that they are looking at Sri Lanka flights that would be amazing!

Yep great to see these inaugural A321neo jetstar flights from Perth take off! The seat itself isn’t that comfortable to be honest the regular a320 is probably slightly more comfortable tbh. Can’t complain about the legroom though in row 29 although it’ll be a different story in a regular row and not so comfortable on a full long overnight flight!

Amazing flight!! Flew this flight a very long time ago before it stopped operating on the A320 and let me tell you that was really bad compared to the A321 I've just seen!

Thanks for watching mate. Yep remeber the days when Jetstar Asia and Tiger Air flew the A320s. Remember flying the latter to Singapore very cramped indeed! Jetstar make budget travel pretty respectable for what it is with the 321 Neo I think!

Perth to Phuket route only started last week and Perth to Bangkok starting next month. Great to see more competition on this route and more opportunities for West Aussies to fly the A321neo to Asia!
