So much to unpack here. But the “offline” gameplay being bad during the day is most likely similar to what COD has with the “bullets come out of your eyes.” Meaning, it’s a broken part of the game that would require an entire rebuild they won’t invest in. I’ve been playing FIFA forever. Good vs. bad gameplay is clear as day. Delay is obviously. Delay isn’t just on the button, but on the AI.

Every point is so right. Especially with the inconsistent gameplay. I will have 2 to 3 games where everything felt fast and responsive, players would actually be in the game, and every touch of the ball felt smooth. But after those few times of good gameplay everything turns upside down. Players will be on cloud 9 and have cinderblocks for feet. Fifa would be such a better game if it was consistent because in a way I feel cheated when I go from a remontada to the average Sunday league game

My most hated thing in the game other than unresponsive gameplay (gave up on that one) is the defending. I’ll position players perfectly for interception or tackle and it’ll bounce off me 18x. It’s not even football it’s more like pinball. There’s a hundred issues as mentioned in this video but it’s the lack of effort to fixing it. One patch we fix kick off glitches ( which has been in fifa for multiple years ), one patch we fix AI by 5%, etc. I never understood the left stick dribbling change, the only thing that saved bad gameplay and constant pressure was the ability to turn. Playing fut champs Friday mornings is so painful because you cant turn. Mind you left stick isn’t horrible when gameplay is good, but it’s never good. Elite div btw. As for passing gameplay is so bad you can’t make a 6 yard pass but your Opponent can make a 360 fade away lob through ball to the strikers feet.

I love it when I see someone manual goalkeeping, they’ll only get away with it once, after that, I already know I’ll score most chances I get after that.

You can't do simple passes alot but can make crazy long passes

I play competitive this year and I 100% agree. Goal keeper movement is a horrendous mechanic where sometimes players would move the keeper backwards and no matter which corner you shoot, it will get saved and this is only one out of hundreds of issues this game has.

Dude, I quit playing for several years back in '18 after an online game where I had two 6ft+ CDs defending a cross and Messi literally phased through the one and then stuck his head through the chest of the second guy to score. Frankly, EA games have been P2W for well over a decade. Then at some point they realized making video games isn't as lucrative as running a casino. As long as so many of us treat the game like a slot machine why would they do anything else?

There shud be a thjng when manual gk movement is activated, all his defensive AI will be nerfed so that defenders will stop running. Its so stupid that im thru 1 in 1 and the guy is doing manual gk, and if i slow down to see his movement and AI defender will autaomatically catch up to me like a flash.

I was playing through old Fifas today for fun and I think I found the start of it all - it was FIFA 14 World Cup Mode. Even though I played it single player there was mega inconsistent gameplay. I'm pretty sure that's where it all started because afterwards I fired up FIFA 13 and played like 10 matches and the gameplay was identical during all 10. What a bizarre bug (or feature) this must be to last through a whole decade and even different game engines.

Omg I’m so glad you mentioned BFII. That is what an actual non toxic community can achieve to a billion dollar company. I was there during BFII. They collectively said “No!” And EA changed Fifa community is too toxic and probably kid / teen driven to actually do that. We need the big content creators to just do something and talk loud. What I think about gameplay: each time you join a game, it's like you are ripping a pack that will give your team a multiplier ratio. If you get real unlucky you get maybe a 0.83 multiplier in all players for that match. Specially in key matches, greater chance of a bad multiplier. It's not servers, your wifi. It's a on purpose gameplay variation in place

we all know how bad the FUT gameplay has been for the last few years. we've got no choice but to accept that the game has some kind of "hidden" algorithms that determine how match results are going to be. people may call it "scripting" or bad gameplay, but i'd like to see it as hidden algorithms within the game. come think of it, if we try to make a list, there are some very obvious indications of it : - kick off goals - 45 & 90 min goals - slow & unresponsive players with bad AI - "buffed" defenders (u can see it by looking at their defensive stats) - goalkeepers making weird reactions - ball always bounces to opponent - gameplay gets extremely difficult based on : division rivals game count (milestone), promotion, objectives, etc. and many more factors that make this game not purely based on skills. these things are obvious and can be seen throughout the game, especially division rivals, trophy titans, homegrown eleven game modes. FUT champions is actually the better game mode in this game. but will EA ever fix these things? i don't think so, because this game thrives on player's frustrations. the more we get frustated by the gameplay, the more we make rash, impulsive, and careless decisions, such as spending real money on FIFA points, just to buy packs and get nothing. conclusion is, do they care about what players feel? nah, don't think so. do they care about income & profit? absolutely. as long as there are people who keep spending money to buy this game and open packs, they won't even care about the 'fun' aspect of the game. well, this is just my personal opinion & maybe you guys have different perspective.

Im much newer to fifa but I already can notice inconsistent gameplay even in CAREER one day everything makes sense what i did wrong or right and feels smooth the next I feel I have no control over the outcome

i don’t like that i have too spam skill moves to get “speed boosts” and such to score . abusing animations shouldn’t make you good at the game .

What pisses me off the most are my full backs that I put to stay back while attacking, and for some reason they always leave their position, they either go to the middle or go to attack

What’s weird is, I’ve been playing since December on PC and have had the worst gameplay I’ve ever seen on any game. But around 2 days ago (after playing for 4-5 months) my gameplay is crispy and smooth. No delayed passes, no mudded gameplay, game is completely flawless for me. Bare in mind I didn’t do anything to my PC or change any settings.

I’ve noticed that when I just let the AI take over completely I have better results defending. I thought I was just a shat player ( and most likely that’s a part of it ) but it’s good to hear this from some legit legends in the game. 😮😢

I totally agree with how horrible playing this game is online. It's just not fun. I just don't do it and just complete squad battles to complete objectives. That being said I have to buy FIFA points to open packs in order to complete SBCs.😢

The most fun on any FIFA I've ever had was the custom lobbies back on PS3 FIFA 11. 3 v 3, 2 players locked to st cam or whatever and an ANY, it was amazing.

I'm in elite div, I don't have the most expensive players but they are good enough to compete vs the meta. I consistently go up against R9's Mbappe's Jiarzinho's Pele's Lucio's Ramos Zidane's all in the same team. What annoys me is that lot of players I go up against try and use the kick off glitch every time. I know how to defend it, but it's so ratty. An opponent score off it 4 times in one match and in the 80th minute when I went 1 goal up, I had enough and decided to play like a rat myself, 5 at the back passing between defenders and goalkeepers to make it impossible for him to get the ball and win the game. If you want to play like a rat, I'll play like a rat, and neither of us will have any fun playing a good game of Fifa.

So true about mortal kombat skills, you really have to be on adderal to play on high SR, and plus you get dda, crazy bounces, honestly I feel bad to my stomach playing this game, hopefully hopefully these new games are gonna be better.

Another random issue I hate is from a goal kick and I aim at the cb closest to me but like every now and then it just randomly goes to my further away cb and gives up the ball for a free goal. I wonder if anyone else has this issue?

The point about german crosses is so relatable esp in elite divisions. When u watch pros like huge gorilla, they have to abuse german crosses when they need goals as well

So I broke the controller yesterday morning while I was playing last checkpoint division 1 rivals. I lost 5 games in a row where I was 1 or 2 goals up and then getting pressed for the entirety of the game till I lose the game, the problem with pressing is that for some reason it affects the shape of my formation and I’m not even the one using it? Especially when you win the ball and try to build up. Those same people who press just run down the line with Mbappe and just cross or pass randomly in the box, they also happen to have a version of maldini, Lucio, Toty hakimi, prime cafu or all of the above and no matter how good I’m at skilling which I’m ( a lot of people send me messages complimenting the way I dribble) I always get bodied by any type of maldini. I never use pressure tactics, I never do any glitches ( corners or kickoffs) and I made it this far in the divisions and I was elite last 2 months, playing fluid intuitive football. If you beat me you don’t really beat me because you’re better than me, you beat me because you obnoxiously get the most out of your AI and I don’t because it’s not really you playing when you do that it’s the AI so F you for that. Peace

a big issue as well is that alot of peoples controllers analog stick and also buttons are old and possibly broken. So this leaves a even more delay/ lag/ incorrect moves. This is why sometimes i just pray to my controller to work how i want it to.. i want a new one?? drop 60 bucks/.. the same amount as the game....

I was so glad to hear your words about City, man people hate them so much and I can't understand this, oil money or not they know how to play football, smart and beautiful football, also there are more popular clubs in EPL who spent much more money in the recent years than City. Btw I'm not a huge fan of City, I just like to watch them playing, best game plan in the world in my eye.

oh one more thing when u tackled the ball straight and it bounced back cause of hitting the coming back defenders and the ball would be placed right in front of the opponent striker is very vexing as well.

Just seeing this now but It's not only human players, the AI actually encourages, teaches and rewards such meta game styles, especially cut backs, via squad battles.

I’ve stopped playing fifa for years now and came back in fifa 22 and now 23. It’s hard to gauge what’s good and bad but the more I play fifa 23 in division rivals or fut champs, the more I sort of understood but never really knew exactly until I watch this video and relate the problems I faced. And now I’m just speechless because I genuinely enjoy football in real life and in games. It’s a fucking shame 😕

The point you make towards the end about realistic football is so true. You have a video game whereby you can reduce to random variables and make an experience of a football simulator that removes most of the parts of real life football that wouldn't translate to a fun gaming experience, yet somehow this game has gotten bad enough to the point where "teams do that IRL" (when most of the time they don't even do some of the disgusting meta FIFA mechanics) is actually an excuse to back EA. Its shocking

Switching to the next player so the AI can intercept the ball for you is completely bogus. Bringing up the fact that the icon is right over the ball and still can’t have any kind of defense animation was spot on

im actually not against goalkeeper movement particularly because for some reason this game always love to push your keeper off the line and they react 10x worse when they do this so what i do to control this is just move the keeper backwards so they stay in the line and react much better. also on kickoffs pifa moves the keeper near post and that’s why people always score easily too because sometimes you don’t even need much power like a slight tap shot and it goes in its ridiculous

i usually get into Elite division last 2 weeks of the season and all i do is get my 8 wins for rewards asap and call it a day. regarding fut champs: 11 wins when in division 3, 11 wins in elite with the occasional 14 win weekend. Why? because i play oldschool pass through the middle football and can't be bothered to play sweaty just for the wins

I’m a bit of a RT merchant at times because I used to use the left stick only when i dribble and now it’s awful and i don’t know how to do skill moves. Tiki taka and left stick dribbling has been my style ever since i was a kid and it’s now almost impossible to do it

I just got from div 2 to div 1 first checkpoint with 4-3-2-1 formation and 100 depth 10 players in box but it was the most balanced tactic I've played recently like decent attacking and crazy defensive :)) I have no idea how but it works like crazy and it doesn't even feel like 100 depth..feels like im around 60

I would suggest EA build a pack swap feature that Elite players get more reward packs can swap 10 ultimate pack for a icon player pack. For me as casual player I will keep pack to gamble luck.

Been playing fifa since fifa 08 on the ps2. This is my last fifa, idk why I still I play it but since it’s my last fifa I almost feel like I might as well play it till the new game comes out. yeah. so fifa gameplay revolves around key elements which shouldn't even exist in football simulation: 1. ball roll (have you ever seen this irl football?) 2. L1 drag back (this is basically physically impossible and doesn't exist in football; no one jumps on one leg backward while controlling the ball with another leg while actually still being faster than the defender who runs forward with both legs - BS!!!) 3. lock on through ball (wtf lock on pass?! find some space and try to pass it there and let us see who will get the ball - defender or the attacker. "lock on" means that the attacker will gain the speed boost while running to that pass while defender will just slow down and let the atacker get the ball safely; this is such a bs) 4. zombie defenders unaware of the ball or atackers 5. trivela shot (i watch football every week and did not see anyone even try trivela at top level, not to mention scored from 25m; trivela was quaresma's troll move and that is thtat) 6. overpowered skill moves which you can do even while having body contact with the defender. bitch, if you are not sprinting and you go in body contact with vidic, vvd etc. you already lost that ball it is finished; no skill move can save you then. skill moves ir are used 1 or 2m away from the defender. not when you are hugging each other because it is impossible) 7. Inability to make small tactical fouls. football is not a game of skill moves. this is not a freestyle football. it is a game of precision, TEAM movement, running, fighting, tactic. footbal is a TEAM game. the key thing is to have a COMPATIBLE TEAM that knows what their strategy is. not 1 player with 99 pace and 5* sm. that is irrelevant... fifa never recognized this hence fifa gameplay was always shit and will always be shit. we can only hope that pes resurrects or someone else steps in. EA can't make decent football gameplay. they have demonstrated that in the past 20+ years. and it brought them success so what do they care?

I had a case, division rivals game - perfect gameplay - the game is 3:2 at 63min. My opponent pauses the game and waits the the full time of the pause. The match resumes and suddenly my players move and react slow and also there is a huge button delay. I lost 5:3 😂😂😂🤷🏻‍♂️ Regular FiFa experience!

Not gonna lie, even if real football when the opposing team is like Japan or Morrocco who are truly an organized team, you have to counter attack and go based of track backs to catch atleast one player out of position.

That german cross, i have to be vigilant with calling mu defence offside trap. But u got time it. Vecause if not youre defenders will run till the end of time opening to much space.

This game is such an RNG simulator. some games the balls keep bouncing to my players for easy tap ins and some games my players run like i run in my dreams. we all have benefited from DDA but we just assume we are better players. at this point I don't even think they're doing it on purpose, i just think they're shit at their jobs because when everyone gets DDA, nobody benefits.

Dude I feel the same when I think about playing, instant dread... so I just play career mode or pro clubs if I play at all. Edit: Just got to the part where you talk about offline gameplay, career mode gameplay changes match to match.There is so much cheese, you can tell when the game scripts a goal for the AI and it usually comes at the end of halves. Also, once you get up in a match your players either begin to take control or they stop being able to move entirely, there is no consistency. That cannot be a server issue, there is some momentum or some rng involved with how your players perform each match and they do not know how to fix it.

I use the five back but I don’t defend like other people do now, I’m still trying to practice my skill moves but I can hardly 😂 use skill moves, I don’t use abuse the defense I like wingers and having one striker is solid not the best I just started playing this year and I have 156 hours from the time I’ve been playing I see that everyone goes for same SBCs and when it comes out it’s a must have to get for your team I don’t use meta players I don’t German cross I hardly know that well but I play causally you won’t see me do any fancy moves or use time finishing I play normal, but I can understand where your coming from if you play in the elite division, i tried using other formations when I use a LB and RB other formations feel stiff and my players don’t run as quick I use random players I don’t have r9 or any legends that play the game, I guess my luck isn’t good but I’m making own REAL MADRID 6-7 of my players are from other team I like the 5-2-2-1 because I am a fan of vini, salah, son, Rodrygo, etc… I don’t play that consistently but I am trying to become a content creator I would like a soccer game where the teams are unique and teams that you hardly play and everything is done through SBCs I’m working with what I pull and what’s in the club, I would like to see better rewards using messi and mbappe doesn’t make fifa fun I use different other players random players for the team I found my own team that I like to play
