You can wrap the PTFE tape on the end of a pencil and then use that to wrap it on the tank thread. Also works on pipes which are mounted close to a. wall.

We have a mega flow system, no pump needed for the shower, it absolutley blasts out, even with taps running.Awesome system.
@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder Месяц назад
That is entirely due to the good water pressure that you have in your mains. A Megaflo will not perform well if there is just the statutory one bar at the stopcock. Plumbers come across this all the time. The customer expects all their troubles to be over and they find they still can't run two shower at once.

Iv had problems with these pumps, i think just pay the little bit extra and get a grundfos pump. Less vibration and the sensor is more sensitive so the pump kicks in quicker in my experience.

Superb video Roger. Had a pump run for 15 years then one day it stopped working. Put exactly the same replacement on and that didn't work either. Decided to put a new cylinder and pipework in with wide mouth lever valves thinking it was no doubt furred up...sadly still no joy. It's got about 3L p/m flow so baffled. Same setup as yours except my shower mixer is in the room below so at least 2m head too. Not sure why positive head not activating the flow switches so wonder if a negative worth trying instead?

@SkillBuilder Thanks for the reply. It's a Triton T550 (no longer available). I have tested the pump, and it works fine. The float valves are not activating the reed switches when in situ. As the same model worked for years previously, I can only assume an air trap after the pump (long run) softening the initial surge when the shower valve opens. I would have thought if 3L/pm water is getting through it that the float valves would activate. Obviously not.

What can we do if we got combi boilers? My plumber said only way to increase the pressure is to remove all 15mm pipes and swap it out with 22mm?
@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder 3 месяца назад
You will not increase the pressure by increasing the pipe size. You may increase the flow rate but that it unlikely. The combi heats water as it passes through the boiler. The colder the water coming in the more time it needs to heat it so the flow has to be reduced to reach the temperature. If you live in a hard water area the heat exchanger will scale up and lose efficiency over the years.

At 17.27 on the video when you were speaking about the tank connector, what did you mean about putting the connector in lower than the hot. As this is a gravity fed system how would hot water get into the tank other than through the vent pipe from the cylinder as isn't it fed from the cold mains only?
@darrylclarke41
@darrylclarke41 3 месяца назад
The cylinder is fed from the tank
@sonacphotos
@sonacphotos 3 месяца назад
I'm somewhat torn on what to do. I can either do this and buy an expensive pump. Or I can just get rid of my aging vented tank and install an unvented tank in its place which would also allow me to get rid of the cold water tank completely. It's a tough decision to make. I do like the pre-plumbed unvented tanks out there and it wouldn't take me too long to get it all connected up appropriately.
@lightx500
@lightx500 3 месяца назад
Get rid off the old tank etc and have a simple set up if you can, you can get new MDPE pipe fitted from supply and it make a huge difference. Also note this way your garden hose etc all the house will benefit. just my opinion
@sonacphotos
@sonacphotos 3 месяца назад
@@lightx500 Well luckily I have very good mains pressure already which the kitchen tap and garden hose use. It's just eventually something will go wrong and when it does, I don't want to fix up an old system. I'd prefer either combi or unvented so I get better shower pressure.

How can you avoid the shower pressure fluctuations on a mega flow system that is caused by water being drawn elsewhere on the system by washing machines, kitchen taps, toilets etc?
@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder 3 месяца назад
Some fluctuations are inevitable but you can pump a Megaflo but only to 12 ltrs per minute. Find out what your incoming mains flow and pressure is. Check that the incoming mains stopcocks are fully open.
@HowardBurgess
@HowardBurgess 3 месяца назад
This illustrates the difference between dynamic and static pressure. Even with good static pressure, if you have constrictions in the pipes/valves serving the outlets, the pressure will drop when multiple outlets are used. It’s the equivalent of voltage drop in an electrical circuit when current is flowing. One thing you could do is to turn down the isolators (if you have them) on items like toilets, washing machines and dishwashers. Those items won’t complain if the water enters slowly, but at least they won’t be stealing lots of flow (and hence causing pressure drop) when you’re using a more important outlet like the shower.

Why not put a pressure pump on the cold water supply inlet and get decent pressure throughout the water service, we are on rain water here and have a grundfos pressure pump which gives us excellent pressure to all the taps even after running through filters and a UV sterilizer. Your hot water tank looks like it is due for replacement.

Precisely. Its sad to see a UK brand fall so far so fast, but also its good that installers are waking up. We now outright refuse to install their units after too many bad experiences. They seem to be suffering from corporate 'brain drain' as I hear a lot of their more experienced employees have either left or retired. Leaving remaining staff guided by mangment parachuted in from elsewhere. Salamander now seem to prefer investing their resources in poorly executed marketing campaigns, sticking meaninless 'quiet mark' stickers on their exceptionally noisey pumps and paying influencers to shill their brand. Come on Salamander. Get a handle on this.
