Plowing pays expenses, salting lot and ice melt on the walks makes the $$$$ that's for sure. Although, some per push applications can be just as lucrative. Nice video! Thanks

It would be awesome to live and plow where you get 30 " a season lol We just had 30+ inches over Christmas weekend lol. Our prices here in NWPA are a joke! We're lucky to average 50/hr for a pick up with an expandable plow set up. People look at you like you have 2 heads if your 20 bucks for a standard 2 car driveway lol

That's crazy, but I've heard that in higher snow areas. And that shouldn't be.

And if this is your full time gig, most people forget to also charge for your shop costs, heat, internet, phone, taxes and every single thing you pay for your business. Not only does it need covered, you need to turn a profit above your true costs.

Yup, all costs need to be calculated and factored in to the pricing structure.

End answer is right, the logic and math is not. He adds the hired help for snow but doesn’t add that persons billable time. By his logic, the push revenue should be double what he’s saying. Also, is he buying a self-propelled magic salt spreader or does that also go on a truck?

Why is the skid steer necessary if you have a plow? Or vise versa. Thinking about starting snow removal this winter.
@SnowBoss
@SnowBoss Год назад
Depends on your properties and what you need. We use a skid for many reasons, plowing and loading salt into the spreader. The truck is necessary to plow and spread the salt. If your just starting out and doing small places just get a truck, plow and small tailgate spreader and use bagged salt.

U said u pay 10.00 per bag for calcium chloride haven't seen for less than 20.00 per bag. 70-80.00 per ton of salt? Is this treated or plain rock salt. Treated goes for 120-135 per ton. Some of the numbers seem to be off.
@SnowBoss
@SnowBoss 2 года назад
So we don't use straight calcium chloride mostly because it will kill you, but we us a CMA coated product that is a corrosion inhibitor and is good to minus 25°, goes for $8.50/bag. Last year my bulk salt was $72/ton delivered, treated was $92. I made this video 3 years ago and that's what I was paying. Even this year with price increases I am paying $88 and $100 respectively.

So are you working directly with the property manager or a third party facility management company that’s subcontracting you? Ideally I want to work with the manager directly, I’m trying to get a short but convincing sales pitch together.
@SnowBoss
@SnowBoss 2 года назад
I do a combination. I have some I deal directly with property owners and property management and some I am sub contracted through local snow/landscape companies that I know personally.

@@SnowBoss really appreciate your input & advice! Eventually I would love to have at least 2 large frame wheel loaders & renting additional loaders as needed along with a few dozen protech pushers. We just got our truck plows all hooked up today. Kansas might be getting 2-3 inches this weekend 😁😁. Also in terms of cold calling managers how did you go about getting in touch with them if you don’t mind me asking?
@SnowBoss
@SnowBoss 2 года назад
@@jamesrosa6568 Anytime. Don't bother renting, it's a waste of money. Buy good clean, low hour loaders and own them. Why pay the same and give the money to someone else.

If people need to watch a video to know they need to be spreading salt they don't belong in snow removal
@SnowBoss
@SnowBoss 3 года назад
Agreed, but some people just getting in the business just don't know enough yet. And there is also some other (I won't mention) Tubers that offer advice that sometimes they shouldn't.
@billballard9685
@billballard9685 3 года назад
I think your pricing is way off. Who needs a $42,000 truck, and then $8,000 plow? Especially when you're just starting out.
@SnowBoss
@SnowBoss 3 года назад
There is always more than one way to get into the business. Some people start with used junk and that's works for them. I was just showing one way. I do 100's of thousands in revenue just in salt applications. This is the way that is successful to my operations. But my numbers are not off.
