Male chimp Eric is always entertaining with his hilarious displays and frantic running around amongst any drama within the group. This video highlights his unique personality as he puts on a bipedal walking display for Alpha Male chimp - Dylan, showing unity and bonding with the big alpha. Dylan and several members of the group have been engaging more in fights lately possibly in the latest struggle to keep his dominance over the strong females in the group. Battle scared Dylan is peppered with cuts and scratches and is seen having a rest and licking his wounds, especially a few bigger ones on his foot.

I love Eric's walk. Like you said, Eric certainly has a unique personality. Dylan spotting a few more injuries and highly likely won't be his last. Such an interesting group to watch and to learn about their characters.

Eric is a real entertainer, he seems to be growing in confidence. Maybe he senses that Dylan will be stepping down and he will be moving up the ranks. That said Dylan is still a huge chimp 👍 Thanks for visiting our channel. 🥰

The group has been fighting quite a bit, probably due to the fact that Carlos is taking over as alpha male.

I have noticed most of the monkeys are losing their fur. Is it coming from stress?

No, they aren't stressed This is a closely bonded family group and they groom each other a lot, common in captive apes, possibly because they have more time than to partake in this type of social bonding than in the wild. This activity forms strong bonds in the chimps community, it is how they form relationships and make up with each other after disagreements, however over grooming sometimes results in bald patches, especially in the popular chimps, who get the most attention. Some chimps can also suffer from thinning hair and alopecia.

To: @joycecollins1064 - Hair loss does seem to increase with age and like ourselves is probably more prevalent than one would think. The hormone DHT (dihydrotestosterone) is reputedly involved but even factors such as diet may play a role. For example it is only relatively recently that the composition of 'gut flora' is being given the attention demanded in the links with severe medical conditions. Too much DHT may stimulate hair loss. Ha, ha! Interestingly, here at Chester with Alice and likewise at Twycross with Jambo, both have physiques which would point to high testosterone production. Additionally DHT is produced in the gonads and ovaries and Jambo's attributes are self-evident whilst Alice seems quite fertile, an indicator of large ovaries.

What happened to Dylan!?! Was there a fight? It looked like he had a lot of cuts on himself. Also at the end when they are grooming was that Eric or Carlos with Dylan? . I know the first half was Eric. But sometimes it’s hard for me to tell the difference unless they are together because Carlos is bigger.

The chimps have been fighting a lot recently, mainly Alice vs Dylan, with the others getting involved backing each other up! Not sure why, possibly a battle for Dylan’s dominance and loyalty, with Carlos moving up the ranks? It was Dylan and Carlos grooming each other at the end, Eric wasn’t in view 🥰

Yes, it did indeed look like Dylan was trying to make up with Alice, there was a brief squabble with her prior to this scene, in a video coming up soon they have had quite a few skirmishes lately, and most members of the group have minor injuries. Dylan and Alice in particular have many cuts, and the cut on top of Dylan's head was present on previous visits, likely to be from another battle with Alice
